when changing the volume is even MORE of a basic feature (IMO)
Back when gen 1 were released, there were other models that had volume controls, but not all, so it wasn’t as widespread a feature as it has been for the last year or so. It’s easy to take it for granted knowing the market’s flooded with feature-rich models now.

Anyway, it sounds like you needed to adapt & be more familiar with your volume/environments - it’s easy to adjust with Siri: just say ‘hey Siri, volume 64’ or ‘turn it up/down’ & it changes. Knowing your regular surroundings & which volume level’s appropriate means you don’t need to change it anywhere as often.

🤣 Seriously, dude? How can I possibly control the source levels of every video or audio file I stream, let alone the various sound levels in my environment out in public? And using Siri for this is very disruptive because it drastically reduces the volume while it listens to and processes your command, to the point where you're missing content. Not to mention I'm also having to talk out loud, which also covers the content and can be awkward around other people.

Anyway, it's about time they included this basic feature on a "Pro" level earbud. Better late than never.

I'm torn. I want them. But because of the generous replacement policy for Rattlegate, I've gotten mine replaced about 4 times so far. As long as my Airpods always stay good as new, why should I spend more money on another pair?

But probably a 30% chance I preorder AirPods Pro 2 tomorrow anyway lol

I just want to know one thing. Whether APP 2 fixes the issue I have with APP: on phone calls I have to be careful not to turn on faucets, tap anything really hard, and definitely not handle any dishes, because background sounds like that get amplified to a terrible level to the person on the other end of the line. I've had people ask me if I was smashing things because literally clinking a plate to another plate hurt their ears.

If these new AirPods fixes this problem, I will buy it happily and gratefully. Sadly, I haven't even heard this brought up.

I got a pair of 1st gen Pros at work as a gift and they don't fit my ears well at all. Even third-party foam tips don't work well for me. The extra small tips could be a game changer. I may buy a pair when my 2nd gen Airpods bite the dust.

yep - just seeing what I'd get for 1st gen ones and put the difference towards .... tbh tho the ANC is pretty good 1st gen so do wonder if it will be noticeably better

improved bat is also a plus

How much are you getting for your first Gen and where will you be selling them?

🤣 Seriously, dude?
For sure. I've been doing it for years. Not sure why it's funny.
How can I possibly control the source levels of every video or audio file I stream
Do they vary THAT much? I find all my sources are similar & I usually listen to each of them for hours, so no need to alter volume constantly.
let alone the various sound levels in my environment out in public?
For eg. Before I walk into my gym, I know what volume they play their music at & hence after working out what volume I can listen to my music at with NC on, I just say 'Hey Siri, volume 64' & i'm ready to go before I walk in. That's why I said "knowing your regular surroundings" - it's easy when you're in places you regularly visit.
And using Siri for this is very disruptive because it drastically reduces the volume while it listens to and processes your command
I noticed this with a recent IOS update - Siri used to be less intrusive & not confirm as many commands, but unfortunately Apple decided to make her even worse recently.

For eg. I used to say 'Hey Siri, Transparency on' & she'd do it wouldn't saying anything...Now she says "Ok,Transparency is now on"...annoying when you're listening to music.
Not to mention I'm also having to talk out loud, which also covers the content and can be awkward around other people.
Again, for "regular surroundings", you can hold the Siri button on your device or ask Siri before you enter that environment. Think a move ahead.

Yes, I find it hilarious that you are trying to make my complaint about a lack of a physical volume control (until now) as a critique on me and how I'm supposedly ignorant of my surroundings and/or lack forethought 🙄 I also never said anything about "constantly" changing the volume, so I'm not sure where you got that from. But I do fairly frequently like to adjust it slightly up or down (based on my mood or due to external factors) and it's annoying to not be able to quickly do that from the AirPods themselves. If you don't feel that need, then good for you, but not everyone is the same as you.

I’m upgrading. I’ve had my pros for a little over 2 years and the battery in both the case and buds are starting to go. I’m interested to see how the touch volume controls work in real life.

I’m not sure if voice quality going to be an improvement. I think most of the upgrades is better battery life, better anc and additional functionally and of course an additional toxin option. Oh and the new chip.

Yes everything I want upgraded has been upgraded. In order of important features I wanted even before Apple's announcement:

1) Better bass response and improved overall sound (confirmed according to Apple)
2) Louder (unconfirmed)
3) Volume control on the stem (confirmed)
4) Better transparency mode, AirPods Max are a lot better in this regard at present (confirmed according to Apple)
5) Better ANC, again better on AirPods Max at the moment (confirmed according to Apple)
6) Slightly longer battery life is a bonus (confirmed according to Apple)
7) Proper FindMy support via case speaker and H1 chip (confirmed)

So everything I wanted improved has been improved, either objectively (e.g FindMy and volume controls) or subjectively according to Apple's keynote (I need to confirm these things myself like better sound quality or better ANC). The only thing they didn't address was loudness, for some content AirPods are not loud enough for my deaf ears. If the AirPods gen 3 are anything to go by I think AirPods Pro gen 2 will have a noticeable sound improvement because many reviewers said gen 3 AirPods sound better than AirPods Pro gen 1.

I do not care about lossless support on AirPods Pro at all because I don't believe the in ear AirPods driver quality is good enough to benefit from lossless anyway, I'll save lossless music for my desktop setup. Lossless might be decent on AirPods Max though, idk. For me AirPods are about convenience, I'll happily exchange lossless support for better battery life and portability. I take my AirPods Pro with me whenver I go out even if I don't plan on using them because they're so small and out of the way it's worth having them on you in a pinch.

AirPods Pro are one of Apple's best products by far.

What? I never did anything like that. You gave the impression that you change the volume often (turns out I was right), so I responded...

You misinterpreted my post as an insult. That's on you.
I also never said anything about "constantly" changing the volume
Ok...
But I do fairly frequently like to adjust it slightly up or down (based on my mood or due to external factors)
...But you do admit to it.

Right back at you. Besides, by suggesting ideas, other people's tips can be helpful to you - if only you'd taken my post as advice instead of an insult 🙄...

& stop being so defensive/touchy. We're only discussing a pair of headphones, & I was only trying to assist you.

Well I have an order in the app, but no confirmation email as of yet. Suspect I'll get it later once the iPhone orders have subsided.

Managed to put an order though the website. Apple Store app was utterly unresponsive. Expected delivery, September 23rd.

If you want people to not be defensive, then don't get condescending with them. We often jokingly tell people "you're holding it wrong" (alluding to "Antennagate"), but it sounds like you seriously think that way - blaming the consumer instead of Apple's shortcomings. It would be like if the AirPods did lack the other basic functionality of being able to skip tracks, and when you complained about it, I replied, "Sounds like you just need to plan better and get some playlists set up so you don't need to change tracks that often" 🤣🤣🤣 . . . as if I can perfectly predict what my mood will be at every minute of the day and what I will want to be listening to. No different with the volume. Sometimes I might want the music/spoken track at a lower volume, sometimes higher - for various reasons that are impossible to predict.

"fairly frequently" != "constantly" And there's no "right back at you" because I'm not suggesting you be like me - YOU are suggesting that I be like YOU...

This will be my last reply to you, as this is obviously just bickering now. I simply repeat that it's about time that Apple is adding a basic feature to a "pro" earbud. Good day.

I will next year when the usb c case comes out. The batteries on the APP don't last the full 3 year life cycle anyways, so there's no point in buying them on launch IMO.
