apple not getting rid of the notch anytime soon, apple too invested in faceid to go backtracking and get a finger print sensor under the screen, just like the mbp, apple not swallowing its pride and going back to traditional scissor switch.

unless they get supersonic finger print reader like s10 samsung, iphone 8 would be my last iphone.

I won't need a phone in 2019, I just bought the XS Max. Should last 3 or 4 years. My wife has an SE which will need replacing this year at some point.

Having bought my Xs Max outright, I'm not even tempted a little bit.

I want to see what iOS 13 is bringing to the table.

I’m a simple sheep. I buy anything Apple introduces...
Like always, I line up every September with my buddies to purchase Apple’s latest and greatest anything!

XS Max here. I won’t be upgrading ‘cause the phone is great as is. I’ll wait ‘till at least 2020 and 5G and think about it then. But frankly I’m not sure the 5G will be a big draw as I’m certainly happy with 4G. For me significant camera upgrades might be an inducement.
I think I’m eligible for an upgrade this September.

My wife has a 7+ which has been great for her but seems battery is starting to degrade. I’d like her to wait ‘till 2020 also but we’ll see. Her new car has wireless charging and she may want to upgrade for that.

I'm on an X so was likely too, until I heard the intel news (2019's is likely to be the last iPhone with a junk intel modem) so whilst i'd say it's still likely, I have some thoughts to stretching my X out to 2020 now...

I am actually unsure if I want to upgrade or not. Generally speaking, I upgrade every two years and I started purchasing from the iPhone Upgrade program with my iPhone 7 Plus. Here is where my dilemma comes in. I am in the iPhone upgrade program which means I pay off the phone every two years. Since I also upgrade my phone every two years, that means I am always paying for a phone so I realized if you upgrade every two years, you may as well upgrade every year. I would have to keep a phone for three years or longer to make it worthwhile. So I will either pay off the phone is September or I will upgrade as my best course of action. So put me in the undecided column.

I'm still rocking my iPhone X and my wife has an 8 Plus so I think we will upgrade. I will then probably keep it two years regardless of what comes out in 2020. It no longer makes sense to upgrade every year IMO. I just don't get that much out of it anymore. It's reached the point of diminishing returns to me.

I will. My company reimburses me to a certain amount per month for a phone bill. This leaves me about $45 for a phone payment. My current phone will be paid off in several months, so no matter what the new phone is, I will be buying a new one cause otherwise, I will be leaving money on a table. So no matter how one can look at this, a free modern iPhone is always a good deal :)

Rocking the X currently, will upgrade the max model this year if this triple camera is a huge upgrade. If not, will probably just go to whatever the XR model is for 2019.

I am passing on this. I was disappointed by the early issues of the iphone Xs where it had wifi and cellular issues as well as charge gate. I actually had high expectations for the Xs as I was upgrading from an iphone 7, so I thought that the Xs would be a far more polished iphone X with more speed, but I was very wrong at least in terms of network performance at launch, and first impressions matter a lot. I had a sour experience. I am liking the phone now though. I will buy a new iphone if apple can release a phone with the polish that they are known for.
I’m in the same boat as you. I was soured by a poor experience with the poor connectivity issues last year. I have a working phone right now so will most likely hold off.

What don't you like about the Max? I have one too and find practically nothing to complain about. If the charger bothers you... It's really not that expensive to buy a usb-c pd charger and a lightning-usb-c cable, plus the charger works with the MacBooks, iPad pro, Nintendo switch, Sony x1000-m3 headphones etc.

For me, I tried 2 Maxes that both had issues with cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth. Both were returned. Couldn’t see keeping a phone that couldn’t keep connectivity as well as my 6S Plus.

There’s no reason not to believe that it won’t be a huge upgrade, I mean, this is slated to be one of the biggest years for the camera likely since the introduction of the dual camera on the iPhone 7 Plus. Camera technology isn’t overhauled on an annual basis, and when introducing something like the ‘triple lens camera’, it’s guaranteed to offer something special likely with possibilities of VR rendering, improved lowlight, etc.

If the camera performance is what rumors claim, then I’m going for it.

However, I may wait to buy for a few months. This year’s camera was supposed to be great in low light, but to me the improvement was slight. Still hit or miss. I’m looking for a significant amount of improvement in this area. Maybe that block will be the answer.

I'm really hoping that Apple works and releases its own version of Google's Nightshot. I've played with my friend's Pixel 3 and am frankly amazed by it - as I'm someone who takes a lot of night-time photos. And since it's just a computational software improvement, it technically can be rolled out to current and new iPhone devices (although I suspect Apple might keep that feature just for the newest iPhones to differentiate).

The other feature is a wide-angle lens, which this new iPhone should have as its 3rd lens. So between (hopefully dramatically) better low-night and a wide-angle lens option - I think that should satisfy my phone camera needs for a while.

I still have my iPhone 7 and am eagerly waiting for the 2019 iPhone since by now, I can wait a few more months vs. buying an Xs. Either way, I'm sure that it'll be a big jump for me going from a 7 to whatever Apple releases this Sept/Oct.

I'm waiting to see what apple gonna do with iOS 13 and I will see.
I have an iphone X currently but after 7 years with a lot of iPhone, iOS is beginning to be boring for me.

I probably will, but only beacause my X screen is chipped, I can't get an OEM replacement, and it's stupid buying Xs now.

However if it wasn't for that, I doubt that I would, as nothing currently rumored is appealing to upgrade. I couldn't care about better camera performance, and that seems to be the only tangible thing.

It all depends on the price and if that ugly camera re-design comes to fruition (I hope to god it doesn't).

If the price stayed the same, I would be much more inclined to stick with my Xs for another year. Although if the rumors of an updated iPhone 8 come about, I'd seriously consider buying that (I know what you're all thinking, why would he downgrade?).

I will buy one for sure. My wife's X is 2 years old then.

Yeah! Time to give my xs max to my wife and get the latest and greatest :) (she still has an iPhone 6 Plus so I’m doing her a great favor!)
why dont you give her the latest one, and you keep the old one?
