I'm sure that a few of us who can lay claim to being Daughters of Eve had dropped in occasionally.

Anyway, since you ask, I am female, but my camera is a Leica M6 (one that runs on film) and I don't have a smart phone, or even a camera phone, (my phone is an antique Nokia - the wonderfully indestructible 3510 which works perfectly well well over a decade since I acquired it), so no pictures, alas.

However, my watch is an Omega Deville, a 34mm, stainless steel, with dauphine hands, sweep seconds and a date function; it has Arabic numerals on the 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 - rather than the more usual quadrant pattern, and closely resembles those beautiful classic watches from the mid 50s to mid 60s with its timeless appeal and understated elegance.

Thanks for this. No idea why, but from the username I assumed you to be a son of Eve.
And with an Omega Deville you can certainly do no wrong in my eyes. :)

Speaking of NATO straps, this is mine today. My khaki pilot pioneer is not exactly a dress watch, but I like how it looks with these particular colors and my purple shirt (I do not know the exact tonality of it, lilac maybe?)

There's a decent camera on that 128 GB iPod touch you keep promising yourself. ;)

Guys, I need a little help deciding something.

Just a few hours ago I was offered a new B&M classima 8731 for what I believe is a more than fair price (a nice discount), and in installments. I've never bought a piece this expensive, but the watch really caught my eye. I think I can afford it but I'm wondering if it's wise to do so.

What would you classify as a fair price for this piece? Would you spend half to 3/4 of 1 month of income in a watch? (Considering it is payable in installments, it would not be that much onerous).

Please help me out, I need to hear some opinions other than my own and my wife's (she says to buy it if I like it)

If you like it, you want it, you think it is worth it and can afford it then go for it!

Well, it's done. I slept 2 nights on it and decided it was worthy. I'm at peace with the buy and enjoying the watch. :)

Sorry I'm a little late to the party, I may have persuaded you otherwise......;)

Before I started collecting watches, I was window-shopping for my first, and it was a Baume & Mercier which stood out from the rest. I loved the look of them. But something held me back. What exactly was inside?
Long story short, after reading up on watch movements and becoming fascinated with that specific aspect of watches, I purchased a superb, used Omega Speedmaster for about the same price that I would have paid for a B&M. That was 20 years ago. Fwiw, had I purchased a new B&M it's resale value would now be a fraction of the original purchase price. As for the Speedmaster's current resale value.......:) it has almost doubled.
BUT the value is a side issue, and I certainly didn't purchase with investment in mind, but any gain certainly gives a nice warm feeling, and sense of satisfaction.
In your shoes, really wanting a brand new watch in that approx price range, I would have gone for an Oris. Delightful, very underestimated watches - with a beating heart of gold, and good looking too.
As a side issue I would simply add this. I was brought up being told from a fairly young age, never buy anything you can't afford. With the sole exception of a house purchase, I've always stuck rigidly to that rule. Whenever I see something I would like, I save desperately for that item, and always pay cash. And the icing on the cake, is that one can (and should) always negotiate a healthy discount on that purchase. Invariably, when one enters into a credit purchase the (always inflated) retail price often remains the same, with limited room for negotiation. My other golden rule is, never, ever rush a purchase. Take weeks, months (whilst saving) and research thoroughly - which often results in a change of plan - more frequently than not, for the better.
My son is now in his mid thirties, and to date has never purchased a single item on credit. Like his Dad, he knows it makes sense.

Sounds like you are delighted with your purchase, which is ALL important. Great looking watch, and a superb looking strap! Enjoy.

The couple of Speedmasters in Img_9568 (lower left & center) are very collectable and made my day.
Is that an Omega Constellation electronic F300 I spot next to them?
Same photo, top r/h. Is it an early Breitling?

It's a Omega f8192Hz. Tuning fork movement which gives off a nice buzzing sound. Cool watch, but rarely used unfortunately.

The watch on the right on that picture you mention is a vintage Heuer Autavia 11630MH with a cal. 12 movement - which is a modified version of the popular valjoux 7734 movement (often seen in vintage Breitlings).

Probably the thickest case of all vintage Heuer's:

That Heuer Autavia is a peach of a watch! And you have the original box, which significantly increases the value. I'd almost (but not quite;)) swap a vintage Speedmaster for that.
Many of the original Heuer watches are truly wonderful collectors items - and not very well known. Thanks for showing a large photo of it.
I too have a vintage Heuer, a 'Bund' military which I must photo and share with you.
As for your Omega f8192Hz, that's another rather uncommon, great watch! I have one of it's relatives, an Omega Speedsonic F300, which also has the similar tuning fork controlled mechanical movement. It's particularly unusual and especially sought after as it's marked on the dial as a Speedmaster. The only electronic Speedmaster if my memory is correct. That too I will shortly provide some photos of.

A little off topic, but i couldn't resist the omega key holder when visiting a boutique inquiring for a leather strap. Pricey for what it is but looks absolutely stunning. I also realized they have rings, might use one once i proposed to my girlfriend

Heuer Bundeswehr is indeed a great watch. Have been eyeing that model for some time now and will probably be the next watch I buy. Only have one military watch so far - the Cardino one in the third picture. Issued to officers in the Swedish army during the 60s. The Lemania "Viggen" is another great military watch issued to fighter pilots, but very rare.

Speedsonic F300 is a very cool watch, and the design reminds a lot of my MK2. A dream watch would be the Speedmaster 2915, but that one is impossible to find, especially all original and in good condition.

I do know someone who owns in though (pic taken from a Swedish forum):

Just a little bit jealous... ;)

Please don't remind me of the Speedmaster 2915 being the dream watch! When I started collecting I missed a totally rebuilt 2915 by a week or two - I saw the ad just too late, the seller had found a buyer from Japan. I was gutted! :(Fortunately the seller had some other very collectable Speeedmasters and we made a few good deals.
I still cast a tear whenever I think about that 2915 (far right on your last photo) as it's still the Holy-Grail of Speedmasters, and reach what I consider to be stratospheric prices.
Incidentally my Heuer Bundeswehr may be up for sale shortly.........
