Maybe I am an odd duck... but I sort of like the notch myself and after just using the phone a little over 24 hours I forget its there.

Not an odd duck at all. The odd ducks are the ones who make an incredibly big deal about it.

Your argument (get rid of the notch) necessitates a bezel. I shouldn't have to spell it out for you.

But please wait here forever. Spare us anymore of your dull-witted arguments.

You avoided my question. Just as I thought you would. You assume that removing the notch means that you need a bezel, it doesn’t.

People say after three days they stopped noticing it. I’m on Day 2 and it’s driving me insane. So... we’ll see

In order to have a little bit of extra screen real estate for things like battery strength/signal status and to maintain a consistent design across all of the X models.

I have not read any other posts because this is perfect. I love having a spot to tuck away the necessary persistent information without losing any usable real estate. It is an area that would be wasted otherwise. Far better to give it a use.

Wouldn't be wasted if it was all screen.

Sure it would. Where would the time, battery life, signal, etc go? Most people are using the phone to read most of the time. Video and photos are a small percentage of usage.

I'm not a fan of the notch never have been but it's no use complaining as until someone figured out how to embed every sensor and front facing camera in display the notch isn't going anywhere. Personally I don't mind a thin bezel up top line the Samsung Galaxy I like symmetry in design the notch to me destroys that. Now if the notch was smaller say the size of a teardrop as rumored on the one plus 6t I wouldn't mind that at all.

any option is subjective. it's not Cool Aid™ , It's free will.

more like self consolation. The notch is a blemish no matter which way you argue about it.

And to rub salt into wound, you gain nothing. In portrait, you are dedicating twice the amount of vertical space to status area to match the height of the notch. So the vertical viewable screen height is 4mm less with the notch (i.e. half the notch height). In landscape, you lost the entire notch area.

Also, due to notch screen aspect is stretched to 19.5:1. Comparing the Note 9 and XSmax, the Note9 has a bigger screen area than XSMAx (eventhough note9 has a diagonal 6.4in vs 6.5 for max)

XSmax Screen height (HxW) = 5.9 x 2.7 (including notch) = 15.93 sq-in / 15.5 sq-in (excl. notch area)
Note9 screen height (HxW) = 5.8 x 2.8 = 16.24 sq-in

What's your point? I like how iconic it looks. Your numbers don't change that...
