Given Apple has already announced WWDC, I don't see any major product being announced before that.
Exactly, I think Apple will move everything to June... And they can, they are still within the 18 month refresh cycle for iPad pro and this lines up with other recent rumors....
There will probably be no A15X, which again makes sense (no A11X and A13X either), as A15 will still be on 5nm. Only the next gen will move to 4nm starting with Macs in 2022 and so very likely that the following iPad pro will have A16X on 4nm and will be in the second half of 2022, which again it's between 12 and 18 months...

It’s happened once before. Apple announced WWDC 2018 before announcing the Spring 2018 keynote where they dropped the 6th Gen iPad. So it’s possible. Also why would they have put code for the A14X in iOS 14.5 - in the middle of it’s beta testing period - if they don’t intend on releasing the iPad imminently? Plus we have the fact that for the first time in Watch history, no new bands were released in March.

I think we’re still on target for an April event. I thought just like you the iPad would be held off until June but I’m not so sure.

Because they changed their plan in the end? At this point everything is possible....

I don’t agree past three years apple has announced WWDC before dropping products during a spring event or site refresh.

The WWDC announcement is actually 3 weeks late based off the past 3 years (usually gets announced during the 2nd week of March). Therefore it’s safe to say an event is also 3 weeks behind schedule (so likely mid-late April).

Coupled with the fact that last years WWDC which only had OS updates went on for nearly 2 hours I don’t expect another hour added talking about products such as iPad Pro, AirTags, iMac, Redesigned MacBook etc... far too long of an event, too much to swallow in one go and too much headline activity.

I think we will either get a press release or event during April... or possibly both... then WWDC focusing on software with a possible announcement of a redesigned mac coming in the fall.

Added Note: Now apple have also announced they are going to report Q2 2021 earnings results on April 28th, during which period there have been no new products, I feel even more likely they are going to want to push something out before then.

We could even see a May event for all we know! :p

Not to mention that rumor of a VR/AR headset...

Waaaaay too much stuff to swallow, even for a two-hour event.

iPad Pros (and only Pros) are guaranteed 100% in March and their are basically the ONLY thing that is certain, other than Airtags.
LOL! Imagine being so certain about something.

No
I am starting to believe the whole March event was a trap Apple set to figure out where the leaks are coming from. If I were an Apple employee and a leaker I’d be very nervous right now.

Maybe, though it could just as easily have been a genuine last minute chop and change for any number of reasons. It’s much easier to move stuff around when it’s a digital event so no venues have been booked or other preparations made. Though I guess that’s less a thing with the Steve Jobs theatre available for this sort of event.

Now I’m more than half expecting a week of press releases some time this month, though with the iPads debuting their new premiere display tech and the iMacs bringing in a new design I am a little bit skeptical of whether they will want to just push them out with nothing but a couple of paragraphs of copy...

Since everyone has been wrong so far. Apple is in contraction mode. Planned obsolescence is slowing.

The Base MacBook Air has as much processing power as a MacBook Pro.
The iPad Air 4 is nearly the same as a new Pro and arguably more advanced than the Pro's folks are owning.
They dropped the iMac Pro.
They dropped the HomePod.
They are likely to drop Apple TV as a device and focus on the service.
WWDC is coming mid-summer

Working on a Car
Working on VR (Glasses)
Working on AR (Headset)
Working on Air Tags
AirPods next gen is in the works

The traditional device landscape (Phone / Tablet / Computer) is drying up. As consumers, are we really needing anything in this arena?

As a device Junkie, this is bad news, but we are not going to have flying cars if we keep worrying about Apple Pencil III.

I disagree for the following reasons
1. This is due to the transition to Apple Silicon (it's a timing issue)
2. Timing issue again
3. Because it might not fit into Apple Silicon strategy or may come back later
4. It was overpriced and they finally (kind of) acknowledged it
5. I don't think so
6. Mid-summer?

It's just a mature market, but it's big and things need replacement, so it's not going anywhere and will likely stay big for a long time

Why do you mean? You must have missed the event, Tim Cook came in on a unicorn with friggin laser beams and Craig Federighi showed off the new iPad Pro Max, it’s a little on the large side, first impressions are so-so, they said 12.9 but it looks a little bigger to me

Finally a device for the power user!

If Apple were to really up the game on the iPad Pro, with more RAM, USB4 and more specifically pro apps, it would make perfect sense to announce the new model during the WWDC along with its new software.

It seems odd to me to release a much more powerful iPad Pro in April without any idea of the new software that could take advantage of that power. Even if iPadOS 15 only comes in September they could at least say at WWDC “here what you’ll be able to do with all that power”. For instance they could say with the new USB4 port you’ll be able to connect to an external monitor and transfer data on an external SSD at the same time. But this could well be just me day dreaming.

Exactly, I had been thinking the same, that's why I thought that moving the event to WWDC makes sense

Agreed, I think the iPad has so much more potential than what it is being used for. It should be able to use an external monitor as a monitor - not whatever it is doing now - there just seems to be no reason why it can't. iPad OS definitely needs to mature significantly to take advantage of that type of use case. I realize a lot of people like the simplicity of iOS and iPad OS but for me, as expensive as iPads are, they really should be able to be used more. I'm talking the $1000+ Pros.

As someone who already pays for an expensive iPhone and a MacBook - I find it really difficult to justify a $1000 device that just expands a little on my iPhone. I know that's harsh but kind of how I see it. Granted, I've read dozens and dozens of books on my iPad but I would have read them on my iPhone had Apple Books (STILL!!!!) not been able to utilize the full screen of the 12 Pro Max. That's beyond frustrating to me.

I’ve got an issue with what I’m seeing. Some people have suggested that Apple themselves have perpetuated rumors in order to flush out leakers. Now, if this was a true, it would be highly disruptive and damaging to a variety of things, including sales. I’m in the market for an iPad as many are, btw. The other possibility, is that things are normal and we will hear an announcement soon based on the supply chain rumors that have already reached critical mass, so to speak. This process many have grown to rely on, in regards to their purchasing habits.

Things were moving along until expected dates came and went, and the developer‘s event in June was announced. Now the rumors have dried up along with my expectations. None of this helps. I need an iPad.
