Because it's prettier, smoother to the eye and much more reliable.

I won’t call your situation typical / average use case. Pretty interesting nonetheless.
Part of it is me. When I write something (as you can see in this very forum) I tend to be long-winded. A lot of times it's easier at that point to just make a phone call. :)

I have a Note 8 and an iPhone X. I switch back and forth at times, but my SIM card is usually in my iPhone. If I had my choice though, I would ditch the iPhone and only use my Note 8. But I feel stuck with the iPhone because my kids and husband all have iPhones and we do family share. Plus, I hate missing group texts from iMessage group texts when my SIM is in my Note 8. I am not a fan of iMessage because of that. The thing that bothers me the most about iOS though is notifications. I downloaded the iOS 12 public beta hoping it had improved, but Android is still WAY better. I never miss notifications on my Note 8 and it is way more reliable with delivering notifications.

1) I feel like Apple's ecosystem as a whole works very, very well. I pay for 2TB of iCloud storage and being able to have the same desktop and files at home as I do at my office has been an absolute godsend.
2) I need my phone to work, and I need it to work all the time. No random freezes, restarts, apps crashing all the time, etc. My only Android experience was a Galaxy Note 3 and it was great for like a month, but a total disaster after that. I've heard that this has gotten better, but I don't really have any interest in finding out.
3) Privacy. As an Andoid owner, YOU and YOUR information become a product that can be bought and sold. I don't like it.
4) I listen to music a lot, and I feel like the sound quality from Android phones is flat-out inferior
5) iOS seems more intuitive to me than Android does, although it's not like Android is counterintuitive.
6) Not so much a point about iOS, but I definitely like the physical design of iPhones as opposed to the flagship Android phones. They're nice, but iPhones are nicer IMHO.
7) Updates. Self-explanatory.
8) iMessage. There is no substitute.

I'm sure there are others, but that's what's off the top of my head.

I've switched back & forth over the years between Android & iOS, but now I'm sticking with iOS I've recently bought both the Airpods & the iPad 2018 to go along with my 128GB SE.

One of the main reason for sticking with Apple is support take my SE for instance, it's been out now over 2 years still work great on iOS 11 & will be better still on iOS 12 & probably be fine on iOS 13 to.

How many Android phones get this kind of support.....NONE.

The likes of Samsung ect only update their phones once & blue moon Android P for instance will more likely be out end of this Month other than the Pixel's & the Nokia's how many other will have it this year not many, iOS 12 on the otherhand out next Month & we all get it the same time right back to the 5S.

It's always the eco-system excuse. To me it sounds more like a restriction as opposed to a benefit. Android lets you customize your experience. Apple lets you enjoy the "eco-system" but if you venture beyond the glass wall, you are limited.

To each their own. I am inside the the Apple walled garden, but wonder what lives beyond...

This is myopic and doesn't correctly reflect things from other perspectives. My Note 2 is still functioning well running most of the latest apps. My iPhone 4 bought around the same time is no more useful than a paper weight.

Android has already long decoupled the OS from the apps and UI unlike iOS. You can be running an old android O/S version (optimized for that specific hardware) but still have the latest user experience/UI and running latest apps.

If you are not on latest version of iOS, you can say bye bye to latest version of apps. And most of the time newer version of iOS is not optimized for older hardware thus leading to much degradation in user experience.

I wouldn't say it's a restriction. Apple doesn't prevent you from using other devices. It's definitely an incentive to go all-in on Apple, though.

Admittedly, a huge reason I still use iPhones is because of integration with iPads. I appreciate having my calls and messages accessible on the iPad. Mind, for my usage a $150 iPhone SE would work just as well as a $1000 iPhone X. I currently have an iPhone 7 because I got it practically free after iPhone 6 trade-in. If and when I do replace my 7, I doubt I'll be going for flagship. It's nice how nowadays, even Apple's "budget" offerings are very capable.

For those who feel forced to go with the iPhone because of family and friends though, I do understand the why they might be feeling frustrated.

I had a Note 5, really liked it. Was almost going to get the Note 8, but Verizon only had a promotion for the S8 at the time, so I bought the S8. I’m a real fan of the S pen, used it a lot. I’m a note taker.

It's more a benefit than a restriction.

Being able to use so many devices that sync through everything. How music/podcasts work with iphone/ipad/watch and homepod is great. Always found iphones run better over a long period of time than android devices.

Because of the app store. No other reason. I'd rather not be in a walled garden.

OK, so updates are important to you, but other than Apple updating your phone more often what benefit do you see? You didn't say what about the updates exactly you benefit from. To update just for sake of updating is not always a benefit. Security is important but it's more than that. With every new iOS update I have to live through the bugs, download updates to fix the updates until they get it ironed out, and then it's time for another OS.

Some of the changes that come with a new OS are disappointing, often I prefer the way something worked before, but I have no choice. With Apple a person has to make a conscious effort NOT to upgrade their OS if they don't want it. I don't mind change if there is a reason for it, but if something works it works. My attention span and patience are not so short that I need a new OS all the time in order to keep interested.

I currently use Apple products, but Android does some things and let's me customize the way my phone works. I am trying to keep an open mind.

Either way, I feel it's only a matter of time before most things work across platforms. I do prefer the Sonos over HomePod, and Sonos One was just updated to use Airplay II.

Turn off imessage before you stop using the iPhone going over to the Note 8 and you won't have issues with text or group text messages.

Agreed. Even the Pixel XL 2 is now lagging per the latest reviews. Android always starts to lag after a while.

That Dex thing is absolutely horrendous. It’s a waste of money. You can’t do anything else other than basic word processing and calendar and email etc. If you need a keyboard and mouse and a whole separate system to manipulate that then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And Apple will not do anything in terms of competing with Samsung. Android tablet market is long dead.
Apple could do something similar to Dex though, and they could make it better especially since iPads have much better cpus and gpus. And for me it wouldn’t be a waste of money because it would be great for doing homework. It might not be worth it to you but it sure would be for me.

Now with Note9, we could just plug the phone in using a hdmi-usbc cable to the monitor and we have Dex function. Very nice.

Go tear your hairs out, iPhone fans hehe :)

But remember he got it for 60% off and is paying it in monthly instalments.

I got promo note9 512gb version for about US$450 upfront payment period. I just needed to stay on the US$35 per month phone plan for 2 years with the carrier. No other installment payment needed

I am typing from a Samsung Galaxy s9+ which I had for about 2 months. I had the urge to tinker customize and change icons and traded in my iPhone x. 2 months later I can't wait to get the new iPhone. I haven't used any widgets or changed icons in about a month and like others have said, I message. My whole family and almost all friend use an iPhone and I can't see videos over mms. It's a pixelated mess. I send a video and they never get it. With all the features on the Samsung I don't use them. Multitask? Not interested. PIP? Not interested.

I will get the plus sized x next month and would probably for the right price get a used pixel or pixel 2 to have to play with etc.

I have used Android for over 5 years and iOS for around 3-4 years. I have even used Symbian before Android which was very famous with Sony P series and Nokia Communicator which was also touchscreen.

Both, Android and iOS can do almost everything. Their similarities match around 80-90% but their biggest difference is the Security.

The list of vulnerabilities, exploits and other security flaws that have been discovered in the Android OS is long and extensive, as is the list of malware riddled apps found on the Google Play Store.

Instances of major exploits in Apple's devices are much much fewer than on Android and it benefits from faster software rollouts too. Apple can push updates to all of its handsets directly, whereas Android users must wait until their phone maker has implemented a version of Google's update that works with its own Android skin.

Apple's iOS is easily the best looking operating system around and it allows the majority of its users to do everything they would need to do on a daily basis quickly and easily.

Although the latest version of Google's OS is a far cry from the days of clunky Android KitKat, Oreo simply can't match the slick and gorgeous experience offered by iOS. Apple's OS is simply better looking and more intuitive than anything Google can offer.

iOS is slick, easy to use, good looking and with absolutely stellar security. While it's not without its flaws, the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages.
