At this point, all of our hopes in terms of photography are on the new 48MP sensors on the upcoming iPhones (I’m afraid only on the Pro lineup at first). The 12MP cameras on the 13 are great, don’t get me wrong, but in some situations the AI improvements made some pictures look awful, and that’s a setting we couldn’t disable.

Unfortunately, I don’t see how an iPhone mini could house 3 cameras.
I agree. I also find it hard to believe Apple will be jumping from 12MP sensors to 48MP. That is a very big jump. If all that is true. It will have one of the best camera's around on smartphones

my 13 mini is the best iPhone i've ever owned, it even has great battery life for my usage. perfect as a phone/music player, doesn't weigh down my pocket. really like how i can reply to messages with one handy / swype keyboard style too. oh well, maybe it will make a come back as an SE 4 in future...

interesting how the same company that apparently has less customisation and user preferences is the one that offers a flagship small 5G phone, and yet we should be satisfied that apple are killing this product and praise both apple and the competition for only offering 6.7" size phones now.

Think of it as Apple recognizing the voice of the silent majority and proportional representation.

The 13 mini represents less than 5% of sales in the 13 series lineup. Does it make sense for mini to occupy 1/4 of the product stack?

Some people complain about Apple not listening to consumers. If anything, deleting the mini is Apple listening very carefully to its customers.

They aren't killing the mini. The 13 mini will still be sold for years yet by apple.

Also there is a 6.1 size, not just the 6.7 max size.

In what space-time dimension does the mini occupy 1/4 of production?!

What about the SE? What about the 12? What about 11? What about the Apple Watch 3?

But should we respond with dignity, if you want to participate, without necessarily having to appear ridiculous?

Apple like any other company when it decides to launch a product tests the market, BEFORE LAUNCHING THE PROJECT.

If they produced a mini line it is because there was demand. And it seems to me that 15 million phones whose main advantage is to be pocket-sized (really pocket-sized, not those tablets that call phones) in 2 years with an ongoing pandemic and various lockdowns are a decent result, despite everything. Sure Apple stock owners will be happier when they sell a ridiculous 6.7” basis to fight with Chinese economic brands, but those there are never full, if one were to listen to the lenders they would sell their mother to make them happy.

I agree with you. Mind you, I don’t like the reality you’re depicting, because I think smartphones should have a reasonable size to fit in the pocket, to be used with one hand, and to quickly take a photo with the fast move of your hand without a high risk to drop it, but I have to agree with what you said: most people demand bigger and bigger screens.

That’s the trend, and unfortunately the few of us who really understand what’s an smartphone for (and what’s a tablet for, and what’s a netbook, a laptop and a desktop for), have to accept that reality we live in. I guess we’ll have to start carrying bags with us, and stopping on the street every time we want to use the smartphone because it will require us to use both hands.
The thing is, in 2022 people don't want or need multiple devices.

Large displayed devices are a must for practically everyone. If you look at all markets, large screen devices completely dominate as it's what people actually want.

I would hope that maybe next year Apple will finally retire the iPhone SE in its current outdated form and perhaps adopt the iPhone Mini chassis so at least there's still a small cheaper budget offering for those that want it.

I said product stack, not "production."

Each year, Apple launches only four premium iPhones. I'm obviously not talking about iPhone SE, iPhone 11, iPhone 5 or other historical products.

Why should the mini occupy 1/4 of the stack if it represents 5% of current line up sales? There is always "demand" for niche products like the mini but that doesn't mean Apple should satisfy everyone.

Leadership in any organization should listen, but they don't necessarily do everything everybody wants. This is because they have an obligation to do what's best for the team and overall.

You do realize, Apple can be uh, wrong? Consumer demand can also change.

See: HomePod, Apple Watch Edition, 12-inch MacBook

I don't think we will see a vast supply of minis for sale for years to come in the U.S.

If Apple offers the mini on their refurbished site under the clearance section like they did the SE a few years back, I will buy several.

Totally disagree. I have my iPhone mini for calls, light browsing, stock checking, etc. I have an iPad mini because it’s the most portable iPad. These minis are amazing for their battery life and usefulness. I have an iPad Air that I hardly use and will probably be just used for running the smart house. I have an M1 MacBook Air and it’s awesome, but I have an old 12” rmb that my “to go” computer. It’s so light and functional….it’s perfect for a notebook.

I know 5 people that thought I was crazy for getting the mini, but when they saw the size and felt the weight they needed to have it. I may be a teacher, but I don’t watch all my tv exclusively on a phone like a teen. Since they exclusively consume content on a phone, I get why they want a bigger screen. Heck, I basically watch nothing on my phone and it’s primarily as a phone, texting device, and light information

Productivity in 2022 is not about voice calls or light browsing.

People use Zoom, Teams, Webex to join video calls and webinars. Business users run Office 365 on their iPhone.

I guess they like having a less than optimal experience. With a phone it would be hard to see the presentation.

But productivity for me is having the right tools to do the job, not about forcing someone to use one device for everything.

That's one of the reasons why 6.7-inch display is gaining popularity. ? If someone is multitasking and working mobile, more likely than not they would prefer 6.7 over 5.4-inch. Is it the perfect tool? Certainly not, but it's a better tool.

This is one of those the market has spoken. Had the sales been higher im sure Apple would have kept it. Maybe it comes back eventually, and this coming from someone who likes the 12Macbook.

They priced the iPhone Mini out of the market and they do the same with the iPad Mini. Apple assumes people want their Mini models with the latest tech AND in a small form factor when in reality the form factor is the selling point and Apple hardware is so good now I would gladly trade the latest gen hardware for portability assuming the price is cheaper. The iPhone Mini should be have the iPhone SE internals and the iPad Mini should have the iPad internals while maintaining the smaller form factor.

Additionally, the UI is never really geared towards the Mini models so not only does Apple price them higher but then makes the UI extremely frustrating to deal with. It's almost as if Apple want's to kill the Mini models and postures them where only true die hards buy them regardless of issues (iPad Mini has lots) then cancels them due to low sales.
I'm actually the complete opposite. The only reason I don't have an iPhone mini is because it doesn't have the triple lens camera system as the Pro models (even more specifically, no telephoto lens).

My iPhone journey goes like this:
Original -> 3g -> 3gs -> 4 -> 4s -> 5 -> 5s -> 6 (already felt it was too big compared to the 5 series, the Plus was a dealbreaker in size) -> 6s -> 7 -> X (by now had gotten used the the 6,7,8 series size, was willing to go slightly bigger to finally get the telephoto that only the Plus phones had previously) -> Xs -> 11 pro (to retain the telephoto, also smaller than the 11) -> 12 Pro (wanted the 12 mini SO bad, but would have lost the telephoto. Ultimately I consider the size more comfortable than the X/Xs/11p) -> 13 pro (same problem as 12 series).

I get significantly more use from the telephoto than I do from Ultrawide. I'd buy a mini with a wide & telephoto or triple lens system at any price they wanted to price it at.

As for the iPad mini - the current model / design is IMO the best iPad design of any model/size/generation to date. It's about as perfect as it gets (except for the "gummy scrolling" or whatever its called - that is WHACK).

While I love the mini series, the battery is just not enough for me. I start my day around 8am and by 3 or 4pm the battery has already went down to 20%. I upgraded to my current 13 mini from the 11 for portability, but after doing so I do miss the extra screen real estate for media consumption, video calling and a larger viewfinder when taking photos etc. I do enjoy taking photos with my phone and I can’t wait to upgrade to the 14 Pro if the 48MP camera rumour is true.

Hey! Provided that you’re someone who has used almost all the iPhone sizes, can I ask you how does the iPhone 12/13 Pro feel in hand for you? I’m really curious, maybe I’ve been making a big deal of all of this, although the reality is that whenever I’ve tried a 6.1” iPhone on a store, I’ve ended up dropping it accidentally over the table…

Can you use the 12/13 Pro one handed?

I've owned 1 model from every single generation back to the original. Thank you 2 year contracts (multiple lines, able to pull the upgrade from another line) and iUP program.

The only iPhones I have missed are the 3G, 5 (and 5c), 6, X, 11 and 13. The rest I have had them, I was in college when I saw Steve give the keynote on the iPhone and decided then and there I wanted one. On of my several best long term decisions made.
