Well, not really an exaggeration… the blacks are LCD black/grey compared to OLED/mini-LED black, the scrolling isn’t silky smooth like pro-motion, and any straight lines of anything bend like a diving board when you scroll. I can afford it, and the fact that this is the first Apple device in 20 years I’ve actually returned, it’s saying something. I couldn’t even justify keeping it “just because”
Of the iPads, only the latest 2021 12.9" iPad Pro has the mini-LED that gives deep blacks.
Anyone expecting a mini version of the 2021 12.9" iPad Pro for $499 is going to be very disappointed.

The expectations need to be more like a mini version of the iPad Air.

I find that in a normally-lit room, my Mini 6 looks pretty darn good. As does my 2021 12.9. I clearly do see the difference in a dark room, of the sorts I never use my devices in.

All I wanted was a screen that was no worse than the mini 5. Apple didn’t even hit that bar.

And I perfectly understand that. I just didn’t expect that the OLED of the 13 Pro and Mini-LED if the 12.9, and Pro-Motion on both, would make the mini feel like such a “compromise” device that I didn’t enjoy using for anything other than testing my eyesight with widgets and an averagely full dock

I was surprised to hear so many people disliked the mini’s screen. Isn’t it literally the same screen as the Air 4 (actually a better PPI). I actually love my Mini, perfect comic reader. Can’t understand people who hate the mini.

Returned my mini 6 yesterday. Just didn’t find myself using it. There was nothing I did that I found easier/better on the Mini when I have a 13 Pro Max and 12.9 2021 iPad Pro. 60hz, grey blacks, terrible tiny unoptimised iOS 15 UI and jelly scroll slapped me in the face every time I used it to the point where it was just a compromise in every way.
I also returned the mini. I do have to say I absolutely loved it but I think bigger iPads are for me (I've currently go the 2018 12.9). Am contemplating getting the 2021 12.9... thoughts?

No, it isn't the same screen as the Air 4, but if you think it is then that can help explain why you are not able to understand why there are some people who hate the Mini.

Your opinion of black is questionable.

In this thread about keeping it, Mr. Gimper has been loud and forceful in his dislike of this device. And he and a few others have a whole list of justifications. So you can't convince - their mind is set. I share your opinion on the device and many others in this thread. It's a fantastic device for what it is. It fits so well in my use case, it's clearly perfect for some people. He and others simply don't like it and will try to make you see how dumb you are for actually liking it and even questioning what you are actually seeing on your device because of what they see on their devices. So you have that to contend with.

So just trying to help you understand the constant push back - it will keep coming. I do hope now that it is returned, maybe the volume of postings will go down, but you don't need to waste your time arguing - he is bound and determined to return it and trash it on the way to the return bin. It's ok - it's still a great device if it works for you.

Tough for me to be constructive about the upgrade you’re contemplating. I upgraded from a 10.5 Pro so everything was a change for me. I love my 12.9 pro and despite owning the 13 Pro Max and a 65” OLED TV, the mini-led on that huge 12.9 screen makes me very happy.

Huh? I’m not forcing anyone to see my opinion or trying to make people feel dumb for purchasing it. If that’s what you think I’m doing then you are a very weak-minded person and you have my sympathies. The fact you quoted a post where someone was trying to tell me my opinion of what black is was incorrect, goes to justify how you have misunderstood things. As you will see if you actually bother to read things I said why I didn’t like it or keep it and actually said it was my fault for my expectations being too high.

Any complaints about the 2018?

I went from 2017 12.9 to 2021 12.9 so to me, the cumulative improvements was worth the high asking price (M1, 16GB RAM, 1TB, 5G, FaceID, Crayon-support, Mini-LED, CenterStage). If I already had 2018 12.9 1TB, I think I'd probably wait a couple more generations.

Can’t understand people who hate the mini.

That feels like an inaccurate assessment of mostly all the feedback I’ve seen here.
Who has said they “hate it”?

I see a lot of varying points of disappointment...and perhaps some questioning if it’s the right fit or a worthy upgrade for them....but really nobody “hating it”.

Am I mistaken?

I went from the 2018 to the 2021 12.9 and the display is better and it is faster with CPU-intensive operations like video processing and RAW image processing for me. But it is not a giant leap forward.

Is the iPad Mini 6 the ultimate gaming device? that a question that even I had to ask myself whenever I was using the iPad mini 6. in this video I will be playing 4 different games that I think will put the iPad mini 6 to the test.

I just picked up a Mini 6 (WiFi, 64GB) and am comparing it with my Mini 5. Quick impression is that the two seem to be of different form factors, even though they are both minis. Whereas the 6 is short and stout(thick), the 5 is long, thin and elegant. For some odd reason, the 5 feels slightly lighter in my hands. Tried left hand, right hand and then both hands, still the same impression. I didn't bother to check up on their weight specs, so this is a purely subjective but nevertheless authentic one user's experience.

I did not notice jelly scrolling. I know what it is. I've seen more than one video on this site. I looked at a few websites and one or two PDF books in PDF Expert. Just didn't see it. My blessing. :)

I like the upgraded specs in processor, ram, camera, USB C, WiFi speed, etc, but the 5 is still a fast and nice enough gadget to play along until Mini 7 comes along. I've already bought the 6; I will keep it.

Placing the two side by side, I do notice the 5 to be slightly longer. Honestly, I wish Apple had stuck to the 5's height rather than shrunk it. If the height of the 5 had been retained, we would end up with a taller pad and a better reader for eBooks and a great communication device. More screen real estate, yet the mini size is still retained. A communication device and a gadget for reading books, that's what I use the mini for. I also have an iPhone, but its screen is too small.

EDIT: I think I figured out the reason why the 5 felt lighter and the 6 heavier. The 5 is taller, thinner; its weight therefore is more spread out. The weight of the 6, as a contrast, is more centered in your hand(s).

EDIT 2: I also noticed that the screen of the 5 was brighter than the 6. The brightness and the true tone levels are set at about the same value on both devices. Has anyone else noticed this?

Before I traded 5 in, I looked at both at minimum and maximum nits side by side didn't see a difference. I don't use True Tone during daylight. I did use Night Shift at night when comparing almost minimum setting in dark, and they seemed the same nits.

The 6 felt heavier to me. If I still had it I'd test if the camera bump made it top heavy as that would apply a torque in my normal position holding it at the bottom.
