I enjoy mine and I already learned the lesson about Apple products. There will always be some issue with a new product that people are up in arms about. I've learned to love my devices and enjoy them without getting caught up every time. My iPad Pro 2018 is one of the best devices I have had and I use it with joy every day, but when it came out "bendgate" was all the rage. When my first iPad mini came out, "pink screen" (only visible in the dark, with a completely white background) was a big deal, and I learned my lesson there from going crazy and returning multiple iPad minis, only to learn to love it, and I do not do that any more. Same goes here. Would I like to have ProMotion on my iPad mini? Sure. But I don't go looking for problems and I'm going to love the mini that I have been waiting for (no home button updated design) as my nightstand reading/browsing device. Some of you may need to skip this and live without, and that's OK--but to me, I think you're foregoing a great device. But to each their own.

as a regular iPad owner, I use mine in landscape
like 90 percent of the time.

i Wonder if owning a Mini would change my habits. Anyone find themselves using one iPad in one orientation more than with another iPad ?

It's a totally different ballgame with the Mini specifically.

It sort of "begs you" to use it one handed in portrait -- it's an amazing form factor in that regard.

It feels like the "futuristic notepad/reader/information portal of your dreams" in hand

Just got mine and the screen is fine, nice upgrade to my 1st gen that was long overdue. But yeah, if it bothers you, send it back, it's not worth having a $500+ paperweight you're not going to use and will probably have issues when you go and try and sell it off on eBay or whatever later on when people are looking to get you on that.

Take care of your eyes. There's a reason Apple had to put a reduce motion toggle in iOS 7, which was also a thing that differed from person to person.

We have compared identical photos on the Mini 5 and 6 and the image looks noticeably bigger as measured by things like human faces on the 6.

I returned the Air 4 to Costco and picked up a Dark Cherry Folio for my Mini 4. I barely notice the “jelly roll” and want the small factor iPad to go along with my 2018 12.9 IPP. The Mini for casual use such as Across Lite and the pro for most reading. The Air was nice, though. I just know if I chose it over the Mini I would regret the extra weight and the fact that it is a two-handed device.

Same. I have 3 iPads. the mini 6, iPad, and the 12.9. All for different consumption and purposes. I am one of the "lucky" ones that can't see the jelly issue. I am delighted with this device. It's just such a great carry all around device! Great for travel as well as on the couch/bed etc. It's just so #$&#'n convenient!

I‘m guessing the $100 price increase has something to do with it, as well. People expect “perfection“ from a $500 tablet. But this is the same absolute price as the original iPad released 11.5 years ago (lower after considering inflation) with an insanely faster CPU and GPU, significantly better screen, and far more capable OS.

Last year I replaced the battery and SSD on my sister’s 2011 MacBook Air (both still user-accessible back then). I was surprised how usable it still was after all these years and how little PCs and Macs have changed since then, all things considered. If I pulled out the original iPad we bought for our parents around the same time, there would be no comparison at all to the iPad mini I’m using now. That original iPad was running a processor that couldn’t hold a candle to a then 3 year old Celeron processor. This iPad mini is faster than my 2018 quad-core i7 laptop that I use every day at work. It also has a higher resolution screen than that notebook.
Keep in mind that $500 is still among the lower prices for a tablet and you can get a lot worse at this price point. With the Mini 6, you're actually getting a lot of bang for the buck with the A15 and optional 5G among its feature set. They had to cut costs somewhere to make it hit the half-grand target though.

Some people use the Notes app, but many of us find it woefully inadequate as a digital planner/journal.

I recommend GoodNotes (this is what I use) or Notability. You can use the native capabilities of those apps or you can go snag a journal/planner .PDF file to use with it. (I have been creating and posting them for a few years here on MR for free)

Here's a link to the thread on my 2021 planner that you can try out on any iPad...
I am here for the love of the mini thread, but wanted to give a +1 on this file - I found sracers file on MR back when I got Good Notes on my 3rd gen 12.9 IPP. It is great software and I appreciate the work done on this -

I think for a small tablet the mini is one of the more expensive ones. Also remember back in the day the older iPads like the OG air and air 2 could be had for around the £500 mark. Hell I remember getting the air 2 in 128GB which was the maximum capacity and ur cost about £570.

I used my mini 4 in landscape, and also my 10.5 pro. When I switched to the 12.9 pro I found I used it more in portrait.

I use my mini 6 in landscape

While I have been a heavy user with iPad Pro 11, switching to mini has been game changer. I work as a physical therapist home health, I take notes on the go, and require to fill out docs and signature from patients. Having cellular on the iPad mini > phone. Now I am tempted to switch iPhone mini just to use it solely for communication

I'm definitely keeping mine. I traded in my Mini 5 for this primarily because I loved the form factor ( also why I bought the iPhone 12 - I loved the form of the iPhone 5 and missed it - plain and simple ). There was absolutely nothing wrong with the Mini 5, wonderful product. I can't detect the "jelly" effect in any case. If it's there, these 59 year-old eyes can't see it. No matter. It's perfect for what I need it for. Carry on.

I upgraded from the first iPad mini. (Yes, it’s been while!) In almost every way the mini 6 was exactly what I’d been waiting for: no more home button, Touch ID in the power button, Apple Pencil 2 support, etc

My primary use-case is reading magazines and web browsing, and I am bothered by the scrolling. For reading a magazine it’s very noticeable when the text bends every time I scroll a couple inches. And it certainly doesn’t make reading any easier on the eyes, either.

It’s frustrating because it’s exactly what I’ve been wanting, but comes with a flaw I didn’t want. So, I’m still on the fence, but leaning towards returning mine.

In your use case, I would return.

Tough decision, I sympathize. The first iPad Mini (which I had) is non-retina, and the retina Mini 2 (which I still have) was a vast improvement, with double the resolution. But even the Mini 2 is really sluggish nowadays, has difficulty loading some web pages (only 1GB RAM), and is stuck on iOS 12. The Mini 1 only has 512MB RAM!

The Mini 6 is a big improvement over the Mini 2, in my opinion, let alone the Mini 1.

It is really unfortunate if you cannot live with the jelly scrolling. If it is a dealbreaker for you, you might consider getting a Mini 5 before they are no longer available
