I've noticed recently during me watching later episodes of TMS that Apple TV+ now has 60 second 'ads' before the show begins. Kinda sucks as Amazon Prime does this (even when watching non-original content) enough that it bugs me. No skipping option either.

Hoping they can sell the shows on iTunes in the future because I don't pay to see more 'ads'. even if they're teaser trailers.

Apple TV+ has always had ads, but they have a permanent skip option in the bottom right corner, or at east it does on my Apple 4kTV just one tap of the button.

The AppleTV app has the skip button for the preview and for the intro/theme music that plays after about 2 minutes of the show ... the macOS app does not. Either way, it's not a thing, at least not to me. I just might find another show worth watching.

I get a skip intro button but not a 'skip ad' button. I have to watch the stupid ad before I'm offered to skip the intro.

People said the same of Amazon, and it has no skip ad either.

And to clarify, even if you don't have the "Skip Ad" and/or "Skip Intro" buttons, you can still skip ahead via the skimming function on iOS and macOS devices.

As @nickdalzell1 so eloquently put it, watching ads is absolutely brutal indeed. Hate ‘em, and my loathing has only increased over the years. I subscribe to options that don’t have them (ad-free Hulu, Netflix) and try to FF on Amazon Prime. Now with ads on AppleTV+ they are yet another element of the constant bombardment from marketing to do something I don’t want to do at that moment. As to the comment by @Eric Idle about being overly dramatic I say: you betcha. Ads are anathema to me and since the advent of TiVo many years ago I’ve done everything possible to avoid them and haven’t watched a show live since the original TiVo debuted and that includes the must-watch-live-but-I-refuse-to SuperBowls and Academy Awards shows. Ads for me are indeed brutal, easily on par with water boarding, passing a stone, having a migraine at a rap concert, going to a rap concert in the first place, and watching any news.

Oh wow, I feel so much better getting this off my chest. Thank you forum.

You are conflating the numbers to come up with 150 million signups. There are not close to 150 million signups. Off the top of my head, I have five Apple devices (not counting Macs) in my house. We have one Apple TV + subscription.
Uh. 10% of 1.5bn devices is 150 million signups. Why is he comparing it unfavourably to 10m for D+ and 167m for Netflix worldwide?
I know a lot of long-time Apple product users and can't even think of one besides myself that subscribes or has signed up for +. I have early 20-something offspring with Macs and iPhones and none of them is interested and I don't know of any of their friends that have it. It is all Prime Video and Netflix, mostly Netflix.

Outside of an Apple forum like this, and a few critic's reviews in national mags, Apple TV+ is utterly unknown.

Ted Lasso is very well known in America. And I would say all critics are aware of Apple TV as Apple sends promo material to all recognized critics. Obviously Apple has a more cult classic streaming service at this point, it is a completely new service and Apple doesn’t have brand recognition as an entertainment company yet, but that will change over the next year or so. Foundation is coming. Ted Lasso is already a phenomenon.

Wow. I have tons of friends who all have it. Guess my anecdata cancels out your anecdata

Just come to the end of my free trial and not renewing. Might do a short term for the few new series about to land but not enough content in general for me.

the 4K quality of stuff there is excellent though.
However They need a large portfolio, surprised they seem to be slow about it and I would expect some sports packages but that Avenue can get pricy. Especially trying to fit into the various countries.
Better half has just enabled her free year with a new iPad. Had a mooch through the offerings and asked is that it?

No network produced shows during the pandemic. Now you know.
Slaps head.
Covid.
Duh!
Who would have thunked it....
OK, 1 answer. They hit the streaming service resource poor before covid seeming to rely on in house programming (not cash resource, programs). Many big studios were already examining portfolios and pulling in rights, Disney was hanging onto 4k before it released its streaming service and so on, there was a lot going on behind the scenes. Everyone wants their streaming/satllite service to be the one and will try to get deals on many shows. Everyone coveted what they could as the content to bulk up a portfolio and were checking who they had sold rights to.

You want people to flock to the service you need a wide range of subjects and that might mean deals for certain shows produced else where even if short term fillers. Unless you are sports channel, they seem to use the entertainment as an add on and the sports to flog you ISP stuff.

If they get more content, then they have a chance, for my money, but it will have to be a lot more. I don't think covid did a lot here in 2019 and leading up to it, the approach didn't feel right to me to appeal outside a small selection.

Our free Apple TV+ ends next week, but I already canceled it. Will subscribe it for a month once all episodes of season two of Ted Lasso are available.
Netflix and Disney+ have constantly something to watch for everyone in our 2+2 European/Asian family. Those two we will constantly subscribe and ATV+ will be with the others (Amazon and HBO) for temp subs for particular shows.
ATV+ just does not have big enough catalog of interesting stuff to justify permanent subscription. With this speed it will take years to reach that status for us.

I can’t really speak for anyone but myself, and I don’t pretend to represent any large group of people. But from my perspective, there hasn’t been much interesting stuff on Apple TV+. “Greyhound“ was good, “For All Mankind” was a mixed bag, but aside from that it’s been mostly standard boob tube fare. I am sticking around for Asimov’s “Foundation” series, which could make it all worthwhile, but it remains to be scene whether the producers will find a way to screw that up. (The fact that it’s being promoted as from one of the men responsible for “Man of Steel” is not a good sign.

Many of us assumed that when Apple came out with the "1 year free Apple TV+ when you buy an Apple device" that it was going to continue - that we would all get it for free whenever we refreshed our iPhones, iPads, Macs and AppleTV's.

They actually should do that until they get their content deep enough to justify the subscription. It keeps their "foot in the door" to eventually get all of us hooked - and they can certainly afford to do so!

I took the free year, but I'll be cancelling it when it's coming due. Hardly watch it at all. No content that's compelling. (Yet!)

Yes, I have Prime and Netflix.

as someone British (who lives in portugal), I dont know anyone talking about appletv+ (what a **** name for one thing).

I got a years free sub, must have been due to a glitch as I haven't bought any apple products for at least 3 years, it suddenly appeared.

Tbh for me none of the apple media services have any appeal.

Apple Music probably would if it wasnt for me having tons of music on my computer. I do pay for iTunes Match but twice ive had Apple Music trials for a month or 3 months and realised I never used it.

apple arcade, looks and sounds great but the two trials I had, I downloaded lots of games, played them for 5 mins and realised none of them were fun. hands clap golf could pull me into it at some stage but id rather buy that for €5 than have to subscribe.

and the tv....I have Netflix. worth every penny. tons to watch. okay you get periods where you've seen everything and you think I should bin this for a while and bump, tons of series arrive.

Apple TV... its not just that there's not much there, its that its.... its all very worthy....very aiming for awards, very right on, woke, sending a message. but like Apple Arcade, none of it is fun. except ted lasso. maybe ted lasso is a metaphor for apple.

To me the issue is there isn't enough yet to be worth paying for. There are a few good things but a way to go before worth a subscription cost.

Rushed to receive an Apple TV by June 30 for free one year subscription, only to be disappointed by poor content and limited choices. Practically nothing of interest there. Just seems to be a gateway enticement to purchase better quality movies and series.

I like the concept of Apple TV+, the content is not interesting and entertaining enough
so I terminated my subscription.

I received a free one year subscription with the purchase of my new MacBook Air. I have browsed the list of offerings and not much looks too appealing. But being a big music fan I have just watched the first 6 episodes of "1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything". Quite a good series. As I was only 12 when these events took place, it was interesting now to see the news footage about Attica, Angela Davis, Kent State etc. and the behind the scenes footage of the Stones recording Exile, Carole King and so many others.

Even if you don't have a free subscription, worth paying for one month to see 1971...in my opinion.
