Rushed to receive an Apple TV by June 30 for free one year subscription, only to be disappointed by poor content and limited choices. Practically nothing of interest there. Just seems to be a gateway enticement to purchase better quality movies and series.

Wow. You REALLY looked around quick didn't you?

You get what you put into it so the end result is you get nothing.

Not at all. No charge for a year, and that's a lot of time for new and better content to show up. Effort was minimal and worth it.
LOL. I thought the same until I actually put in an effort and watch some shows. Mystic Quest- Hilarious. Tehran- Absolutely gripping. Dickenson- incredibly enjoyable. Ted Lasso- Enough said. 1971- Incredible.

Your effort was extremely minimal or more accurately, non existent.

LOL. Apparently, you're easily entertained. 😀

Fist of all, I like Apple TV+. I can easily justify $49.99/year subscription. However, Apple TV+ looks bare bone to outsiders. It is for this reason Apple One exists. For streaming music subscribers, paying $5 more for Apple Arcade, Apple TV+, and iCloud storage can be a compelling upsell.

In few years, Apple TV+ will have enough contents to stand on its own. Until then, Apple should create additional Apple One tiers, such as $9.95/month Apple One Student (Apple Music Student, Apple Arcade, Apple TV+, iCloud 50GB) and $14.95/month Apple One Cloud (iCloud 2TB, iTunes Match, Apple Arcade, Apple TV+).

Along with more tier options, I'd like to see some annual Apple One options too that reflect the same annual standalone discounts, or even a bit deeper.

So you think Apple is spending hundreds of millions of dollars creating content and then charging everyone 5 bucks a month to entice them to buy someone else's content?

Apple offers annual pricing option for:
  • Apple Arcade: $49.99/year vs. $59.98/year for monthly billing (2 months free)
  • Apple Fitness+: $79.99 vs. $119.88 (4 months free)
  • Apple Music Individual: $99.00 vs. $119.88 (2 months free)
  • Apple TV+: $49.99 vs. $59.98 (2 months free)
Perhaps Apple Card can offer Apple One annual pricing option as a perk?

I subscribe to Apple Arcade ($49.99/year), Apple TV+ ($49.99/year), and iCloud 2TB ($119.98/year). Apple One Premier costs $139.54/year more, or $11.63/month. With annual pricing, the difference narrows to $80.09/year or $6.67/month. I am far more inclined to pay $6.67/month more for Apple Fitness+, Apple Music Family, and Apple News+.

For us, as a family we use Apple TV+ along side other stuff like Netflix and free to air TV apps like 4 on Demand, iPlayer etc.

Netflix plus Apple TV+ works out about £19 per month in the UK which is fairly good value considering its 70-80% of what we watch.

It needs more content but if they double the content, you can bet your life they will double the price. Once it goes to £9.99pm, I might reconsider.

We watch several of the shows on there, they seem ‘decent’ to us in terms of their quality vs Netflix which has a lot more content but a large amount is guff that nobody likely watches.

Yes. Though some is free, much of the quality content is not and at the same price as from regular Apple TV, iTunes, or Amazon Prime. I continue to be not impressed, but not critical of those who like it.

Not sure I follow this, everything on Apple TV+ is included under the subscription, there are no extra fees past that. Everything I have watched on TV+ has been free* (with the subscription fee for TV+). What costs extra for you?

Or is this another case of people conflating TV+ with the entirety of the iTunes store?

They are likely referring to the app promoting shows from other streaming platforms that you may or may not be subscribed to. Looking at my feed, I’m seeing stuff for HBO, Hulu and Showtime, none of which I’m subscribed to.

Actually that's true. When you go to the Apple TV app, you have to go to Originals (Apple TV+) to see everything that's included with the subscription. That wasn't initially clear to me. But I still find the content pretty limited and not very compelling.

Conflating or not, limited selection. Hence the reason for this thread.

But in a couple of year there will be more content. Then things will be fine. Lol (Except others will be adding even more content so the gap will widen even more than it is now but that ruins the story).

No apps for popular devices like Android TV's or phones (come on guys my expensive Sony Oled has no app?), no chromecast, bad marketing with confusing names (TV...TV+), just a few contents mixed with non-included-in-TV+ contents. Netflix is unbeatable right now.
Actually there is an app for Android TV… spend a few hours during the last days to install it on various TV sets and e.g. Mi boxes of relatives - the joy of coming Home to your parents and family during vacations: „home“ is where you supply friendly&free technical support. 🤓

At least as things are going so far - the content will be new Apple productions. So you don't know until you watch an episode or so. The others have "new" content and existing movies and TV so you at least will find some stuff you have seen and want to see again.
More content will definitely help.

What do you think? I think Amazon Prime folks are already getting their entertainment from there along with their other perks. And many others have Netflix. They are late to the game and they don't have anything that is a must see.
Not enough movies.

You can only watch so much so what difference does it make? If one provider has more than you can watch but the other has double more than you can watch what’s the benefit?

Began watching Corman a couple of days back; never got me hooked. Ted Lasso was so-so - only because of a British woman with huge knockers. Wasn't funny.

Then Schmigadoon - I admittedly watched the episodes of that. I regret that now and I feel more dumb than before watching.

Oprah can go hump a tree stub for all I care.

There's a feeling of a religious tone or a highly "let's all hug and cry"-feeling to all the shows on Apple TV+. I has a modern Hallmark TV movie brand to it all. Dictating.

Could Apple at least allow for their users to have the ability to stream a movie from their vast iTunes Movies Library - 2 movies a month or something.

When I open the TV app on my Mac or elsewhere I always think "What am I going to feel sorry about today as an extremely white caucasian male"

So why to I continue to pay for it.. well, I hope that there will be something of interesting down the line - say 5-10 years from now

I've watched at least 1 ep of just about everything on the service and I have to say that I just find it all underwhelming apart from the documentaries.

My wife watched the musical one and I caught the first 3 eps and that's all I could handle. It's tedious. I get the idea and it could have been fun, but it isn't. The songs needed to be more than exposition or an indulgence, they needed to move the story forward or inform us of character. The fail almost entirely on both fronts. The creators think they are more clever than they actually are.

Corman. Not sure what to make of that yet. I'll give it another shot.

Ted Lasso - there's only so much sugar you can eat before you get sick. It's the cringeiest song I've ever seen. It's Love Actually x 1000 for the cringe.

Mythic Quest. I watched that. Meh. I wish I hadn't. It's not even close to Silicon Valley.

Physical - I watched that as well. It's... interesting, but too often falls into the trap of man bad as the easy out. The characters are too cartoonish to take it seriously. Better writing and better choices could have made it more interesting. I do like the tone even though the ending is the stupidest ending I think I've ever seen to a show.

Various other shows mentioned previously, I just thought were average. And that's the real problem with Apple's shows. They aren't special. Ted Lasso seems popular so that is probably its biggest show I'd imagine. They need a GoT or a MadMen or a Breaking Bad. And how about some real comedies?

I would love to see shows like "The Boys" on AppleTV+

That's the kind of boldness I want to see from Apple - some really cool mutha-effing action shows and let's go.. I haven't watched Mythical Quest yet as I can already tell it's going to be a borefest of proportions.

Instead shows like Central Park or what ever that animated show is called is just plain sleep inducing - I could already tell from the scrubbing of the first episode.
Perhaps Apple actually wants us to do drugs?! "Have your bong ready because Apple is now showing: Schmigadoon. You'll be loving it"

Or maybe I'm just too negative of an individual. Nothing cool about being positive. HIV-Positive - Covid 19 Positive - tested positive for cancer... Great.
