Take note of what GSMArena said about A14, take note that the A12Z had better graphics performance than the A13 already...

A few thoughts on the pricing of the 4th generation Air.

I imagine the new Pros will see a similar increase in price when they are released. I had thought that Apple had reached the ceiling, but as we know, they ‘think different’.

If that does happen, the closeness in price between the 128GB Pro 11 and the 256GB Air will no longer be there.

When Apple reintroduced the Air, it appeared as if it was positioned to encourage people to consider purchasing it instead of the base model iPad. In the UK, the price of the 8th generation iPad is actually £20 less than its predecessor, coupled with the increase of the Air, the gap to upgrade has just got a lot bigger.

Conversely, as the owner of a Pro 11, I could certainly see myself downgrading to an Air when the time comes to replace it. I don’t think that’s what Apple was going for.

Nope. They already removed the Air from the promo page, and it ends on the 20th.
In the UK, the promo goes on until 29 October 2020.
Until today, the t&c for the promo listed the iPad Air as an 'eligible ipad'.
Todays, the t&c is rewritten to only have the ipad pro as an eligible ipad.

So, the question is, when the new ipad air 4 is available for purchase next month, will it be put back in the promo as an eligible device, for us in the UK?

It's $749 / $879 for Air 4 256GB Wi-Fi / Wi-Fi+Cellular respectively. $899 / $1049 for a similarly configured 2020 Pro 11. If anything, the 2020 Pro seems poor value at this point.

Yeah, for now it does. But six months from now, I’d happily pay the extra $200 for extra ram and a faster chip alone.

128 was probably my sweet spot on storage. If the base model had that, I could justify it, but I guess that would really eat into upgrade profits for Apple.

It’s just not quite good enough value for the value option for me.

Six months from now and it wouldn't be the 2020 iPad Pro, though. :p Just comparing the value proposition of currently available models. :)

I'm still waiting for a 5G iPad Pro myself. If I'm gonna spend ~$2K for an iPad (1TB cellular), I want it close to perfect.

That's a really good question. Maybe the Air will only be available Oct 30?

It would be unusual (but not entirely unprecedented) for Apple to announce a product that far in advance. In fact, if that’s the case, why not reveal it at the inevitable October iPhone event?
Maybe they needed to fill this event out and have more than enough for the iPhone event?

I bet Apple took this design route though because of the stellar profit margins on the Pro accessories that will now be the option for the Air range. I would bet that the Magic Keyboard at £299(!) gives a better margin than the whole iPad. The Pencil at £119 is going to be a huge margin item too. Apple won't need much of an attach rate to start making the cost of the nicer screen and faster processor start to look trivial.

We might be thinking that Apple is giving us a Pro for less. I bet Apple is thinking we are selling Pro accessories to Air buyers.

Yup. New Air line looks to require folio case designs now which also add to the cost of ownership and margins on sales.

At least we have gotten a price drop on some Apple products here in the U.K. though. Like you said the 8th Gen IPad is now £329 (previously £349) and the Apple Watch 6 is now £379 so £20 off from before. The Air 4 is £579, but would have been £600 if released same time last year. Apple seems to have settled on U.K. pricing post brexit.

I’d be keeping this for 5 years so there is no chance 64gb would suffice. £729 for the 256gb version is horrendously steep.

Not that steep when you break it down to extra cost/month over the planned 5 years of ownership.

Lucky you. Here in Mexico we have gotten a price increase in most Apple products. The new iPad 8 increased from $7,999 pesos to $8,999 pesos. Even the Apple Watch S3 increased from $4,799 to $5,299. The new Air is $16,499 pesos ($800 dollars), that’s why I’d rather buy Apple products in the US.

Hmm, Air 4's not available yet. When does the free AirPods promo expire?
I think I read somewhere mentioned it end sometime late October. Any idea if Air 4 will be added to that Promo? Also when they are taking orders for Air 4?

I already ordered Air 3 weeks ago but not yet received it. I’m wondering if cancelling order or returning it would allow to reuse this promo again this year? There is limitation only one promo allowed yearly but I was hoping return or cancel existing orser would allow to reuse offer?
