I don’t think the differences are that drastic but given the price difference I would kick myself if I went the 12 because camera is a big selling point for me. Don’t blame people for not wanting to spend the extra though. The weight is probably the only reason I would consider the 12 over the pro.

0.88 ounces more for the 12 pro over the 12. Why is that heavy for some people to handle?

lol, this is like caring about specs on paper but disregarding everyday real life performance

if you focus at those ounces, obviously that isnt heavy but when you use it on one-hand everyday, you will notice it.

most will prefer lighter fones, especially if the only obvious advantage of the heavier one is just a telephoto camera, it is a just a no-brainer choice.

if only the iPhone 12 pro comes with a longer battery life to suffice that extra weight over the iPhone 12, which has the same screen size.

The weight is noticeable but that isn’t the reason I prefer aluminium to stainless on the phone. I work a lot with aluminium when developing products and have a great appreciation for the innovation that goes in to these higher grade alloys. For me it’s awesome to have a phone that uses that level of innovation from a materials perspective and it’s cool that Apple don’t charge a premium for what is a rather expensive material in comparison to 316L stainless.

exactly

the iPhone 12 pro weighs 1 gram more than the not lightweight iPhone 11 pro but offers lesser battery life

meanwhile, iPhone 12 is lighter by 25 grams yet you get more battery life and can save you $200 or $849 (128) you may spend on USB-C charging brick or magsafe accessories.

I will ditch the stainless steel, since I use cases to all my fones as always if that just means shaving of that 25 grams of weight

or better is those 25 grams of weight be converted into extra capacity mah of battery

It’s all about perspective. The iPhone 12 Pro is nominally less weight than my iPhone XR (189 grams vs 194 grams), yet has 2x the RAM (6gb vs 3gb) and an optical zoom lens. The even greater weight savings of the regular iPhone 12 would have been nice, but for “only” $120 more, I feel like the extra RAM and camera system was worth it to me. YMMV.

yeah but for only $100 more too you will get features the iPhone 12 Pro Max have over the iPhone 12 pro.

it's just perspective, but many people doesnt mind EXTRA features

that's why iPhone 11 sells better than the Pro's despite the latter having oled screen and telephoto camera.

i like the pro - but really dont neet 128 GB... i have 64GB on my xs... and i feel totaly ok with that.

Well I was a little disappointed in the pricing on the 12 overall, so I likely would’ve just gone ahead and gone pro ($150 difference for me on ATT) except for weight, and the fact that I prefer the look of the aluminum to the stainless. I wanted the lightest phone I could get that was bigger than the SE (but not wanting to go back to the weight/size of an 11), so it was either the 12 or an 11 pro. The 12 is lighter, and actually not too much bigger overall than the 11 pro, so I think I’m gonna be really pleased.

Here’s why:

In India 12 costs USD 1086. 12 Pro costs USD 1630. That’s exactly 50% more.

In India AC+ for 12 costs USD 230. AC+ for 12 Pro costs USD 367. That’s close to 70% more.

In total Pro costs more than 50% over the regular model.

12 Pro with AC+ without accessories is exactly USD 2000. Whereas 12 with AC+ is close to USD 1300.

I don’t think the Pro deserves a 50% premium AKA USD 700.

If the above difference was USD 250-300 all inclusive, I would recommend the Pro in a heartbeat. But at USD 700 it’s criminal.

Yep, there aren’t $170 worth of extra features on the Pro.

USD 170 isn’t a lot for the Pro. I’d say anybody buying the 12/12 Pro can afford USD 170 to go from Regular to Pro. In India it is USD 700 Over the regular one.

In one video I watch the weight difference was 30 grams. Quit a lot.

Yes. That’s a good reason to stick to regular 12 too.

Just because it’s a bigger price difference in other territories doesn’t mean it’s worth the $170 extra. I can afford to buy a 12 Pro or Pro Max, I have a XS Max now, but that doesn’t mean it’s worth going from a 12 to a Pro. I’m getting a 12 this time because the few features that are different on the Pro models this time aren’t enough to justify getting the Pro.

Just because you can afford something doesn’t mean it’s worth spending the extra money for it.

I want the Mini for the smaller size. If I could upgrade to a 12 Mini Pro for an additional USD 170, I would do it.

That's crazy - has pricing always been like that in India? I would've thought it would be more linear, where there's an implied FX rate difference (and maybe a bit more for customs / import duties), but the % difference to the USD price would be the same. Are there different Indian duties for different tiers of products (or $ level of product?)

Price difference is not that much, but the weight, color, and default 26mm in portrait are feature the Pro doesn't have even if the price were the same.

I can see why you would get the 128 12 or even a 256 12. I would much rather have 256GB and buy my self a spiffy plug so that I can charge my phone for the same price as the 12 pro with 128gb.

You forget weight and design (very subjective point).

Exactly, a large part of why I bought the 12 is for the weight. If the Pro was lighter I would have got that. Not everyone appreciates the added weight of the stainless steel. It makes my XS Max terrible to use compared to similarly sized 6,7 and 8 Plus’.
