TAs i've said, the only way it would be a great business opportunity is by being the exclusive seller of new (proprietary) components. That way they can simply release component upgrades and it would just be internal refreshes until they make more significant changes every 3-4 years.

The Mac Pro market is wider than MacRumors forum owners, all of which I believe would take advantage of these upgrades, but the 'Pro' market would also take advantage of them, including Apple themselves who rely on Mac Pros in some of their departments.

March, April, or May? Who knows.

I doubt the design will change. It's a good design and while the slimming of the vessels would be beneficial to an aesthetic, it's no big whooptie.

Just boost the internals.

The design does need to change as it hasn't changed at all since late 2012. They can shrink the bezels to make the iMac smaller, or keep the same footprint in the 21.5" model and shove a 24" display inside it.

My wish list is quite simple. I'd personally like to see Apple ditch the 16:9 panels and go for 16:10/3:2. It goes without saying that SSD should be standard on all models and allow 256GB/512GB/1TB/2TB options.

I wouldn't be upset with all ports being USB-C. Moving with the times 'n all that.

They discontinued their own Thunderbolt display, but Tim Cook did indicate there were new desktops coming, so there has to at least be an iMac in the future. I still suspect the discontinuation of the Mac Mini and/or Mac Pro.

Making the smaller one 24" with the same footprint would be ideal, in my opinion. I would be tempted to buy that.

They could also make the 27" version 30", as well.

I'd love to see a 32" version. :)
27" is too small to me. I would need 2 monitors. I'm using tri-screens all day long.

I still suspect the discontinuation of the…Mac Pro.
Jason Snell at Six Colors broke down Apple's recent financials indicating Macs are 9% of their business compared to iPhone at 69%. My guess is Mac Pro sales might be 5% of total Mac sales. Still a substantial business but it's easy to see why Macs get less attention. I'm hoping they see Macs as a substantial business and revenue opportunity going forward ( I think they are ) and allocate resources appropriately

I don't know if they will arrive in March, but i do think there will be new iMac's this year. They haven't been updated in a while, it's possible that Apple have been working on a re-design, if that's the case it could be that we see it at a March event or even it's own dedicated October event (like the MacBook Pro's 2016) however if it's just a small internal update it could just be a silent update that appears on their website. It's possible tho that we see updated iPad's, MacBook 12" and iMac at the March event.

Seeing as the iMac is Cook's preferred Desktop Mac to showcase…
I think Cook's statement identifying the iMac, in addition to any other value it might have, is subtle and strategic and IMO intentionally reveals little about desktop Macs. It aims to divulge the least amount of information by mentioning a desktop most users are sure will eventually be updated. If he were to mention the Mac Pro or Mac Mini he enters a conversation Apple doesn't want to discuss yet.

What the heck is Apple waiting for? Retain the present shape, or (preferably) make the iMac slightly thicker. Then offer an iMac 27'' with the newest line of Intel CPUs and Nvidia GPUs (including 1070M and 1080M). Get your act together, Apple. Focus a little less on politically correct virtue signalling and empty promises about "great products", and just simply deliver some new desktop products.

PS: If the new iMac line is as outrageously priced as the latest MBPs, then I'll stick to my late 2012 iMac or buy a PC, thank you very much. To demand that kind of prices for your products, when you as a company are paying downwards of 0.005% taxes in Europe, and hoarding hundreds of billion dollars of cash in tax havens is simply ridiculous.

I would love for a thicker, user serviceable iMac with a super drive as well. Removing the SuperDrive was such a bad idea... I can't wrap my mind around it. All for the sake of thinness for a device you only see from the front!

Anyway it won't happen. ever. Apple considers this upgrade a regression because they care about aesthetics first and everything else second. I want a computer that looks good and performs well. It's not too much to ask, but they won't do it.

Modern pc cases are works or art. Check out this. The airflow is bad so you'll need an extra $100-$300 for water cooling, but you guys buy macs so what's a little overpricing :p

Eh, I find most PC cases either plasticy crap or tacky and trying to appeal to 10 year olds with all the flashy LED lights.

uwotm8? That case uses 2 mm steel. Most cheap pc cases nowadays use metal!

Most pc cases nowadays are metal and tempered glass, it's basically like household furniture

Here's the corsair 570x

I agree with this 100%

"Ohh mommy look at all the lights on my big bad gaming rig. teehee!"

It is true you are getting more spec for the money and that is a problem. However our OS is objectively superior. And if you don't need a gtx 1080 it might not matter too much that you don't have one.

Yea pc towers are still big and childish
The new alienware are a little bit more compact. Or that asus og g20cb

Colors are childish. Is this really coming from people who buy from a company that is known for occasionally making products that come in multiple colors?

And how is this any less 'childish' then say, a touch strip with neon cat and emoticons?

Did any of you look at the case with the lcd panel built in?
