The Xr has at most 1.5-2 hours improved batter than the Xs max.
Thats due to:
1) inferior screen quality 326 PPI vs 458 PPI
2) poorer contrast ratio 1400/:1 vs 1,000,000/:1
Geeze, how much longer are you going to beat that drum.

The truth of the matter is, only the green pixels on the XS Max screen are 458 pixels per inch. Red and blue are 324 pixels per inch. So yes, if you love super sharp green, by all means.

Having said that, one of two main benefits of XS is the OLED screen (telephoto camera being the other one), which naturally has wider viewing angle (not sure it's all that important for a small screen), deep pure blacks, and HDR dynamic range (which could be part of LCD as well, but Apple chose not to).

While I personally love deep black levels, I suspect folks that use their phones primarily under bright lighting won't notice nor care all that much. HDR dynamic range is incredible, but benefits are limited to few apps.

I just can't wait for this to be released and hopefully all of the display moaning will go away.

What people choose to buy or not buy or discuss here doesn't have any consequence on what people buy out in the real world, anyway. It will work itself out.

Apple obviously cares about the display enough to keep the resolution away from the Plus dated from 2014, so let's not forget even the execs know it matters. I know several very average people that say they would buy the Xr if it had the resolution of the Plus. The display does matter, hence the "moaning".

Where did I say "it doesn't matter".
It matters to some people. But it doesn't to the majority. Doesn't mean either are right or wrong despite people in here consistently posting about how bad it is.
Are you buying the XR?
Will you be pre-ordering one? Just curious.

I stated that because you claim people are moaning in here about the display. So if it does matter,
then why make a complaint against that argument? "The majority" isn't a great argument in terms of quality.

I also never claimed the screen is "bad", I used the term 'subpar'... and I mean that in terms of the Plus which was released in 2014 (4 yrs ago). Apple themselves call the Xr "the most advanced LCD" and that is THEIR OWN way of explaining the Xr, which seems to be a marketing lie. The display is one of their main selling points, hence I'm addressing that.

Sales of this device, my buying decisions, and what other people do, don't have anything to do with the overall quality of a device. Just as most people buy cheap PC's, cause they are more affordable.

Answering the question of the OP again...The Xr will likely have very high sales. That doesn't make it a great selling point in terms of quality, just as if $99 junk tablets outsold $429+ iPads (cause of affordability).

You're being quite defensive here and making a lot of assumptions with my post. I never claimed that "you" were saying "the screen is bad" - not you personally. It was a generalised comment from what I've been reading on here, but you thinking its aimed at you is cool if you want to counter it.

And again, me asking if you were buying the XR was a genuinely curious question - there was no ulterior motive, yet you've answered defensively which I find odd. It was a yes or no question really but whatever.

No, I don't mean it that way, Im not defensive at all lol. I said you used the term "people" btw, so of course I know you aren't singling me out. I'm just stating that sales shouldn't drive our personal decisions in terms of quality.
If someone likes the Xr, and it meets their needs, then more power to them, they will save a lot of money.
I do think the flagship phones are overpriced, btw.

To answer your question, I won't be preordering the Xr. I will definitely take a look at some in person when they
reach stores. I have 2 Apple Stores in walking distance here lol. I still have a 6S Plus, but I may upgrade to something shortly. Do you plan on purchasing one?

So, in your opinion, pixel density=quality? You ignore everything else about the phone and home in on PPI. No matter how great the user experience, how great the build quality, how reliable the cellular performance is, if it doesn't meet a certain PPI number, it means it's poor quality?

I never used the term "poor quality" to describe the Xr. I said the display on it is subpar due to the PPI.
You're mixing terms up just as you are using sales figures as your justification for the device (e.g, "it will sell like hotcakes, whine all you want").

Makes sense man.

And that's lucky! Closest one to me is a 40 min drive which isn't too bad in fairness.

I do plan on it yeah. I upgraded to the XS Max and I actually really really like it. However, the XR is just that perfect size point as the Max is just slightly unwieldly. I have pretty small hands. :(

Plus, I just love the yellow one haha. They just look cool I think.

In terms of size, I guess the Xr would be slightly smaller for you. They claim a 6.1" screen, so it might be more manageable...it still looks very close to the size of a Max. I can clear the screen with one hand on a Max, but it still
feels a bit heavy. At least you would lose some of the weight of the phone too.

I upgraded from the X to the Xs Max. It’s truley the best IPhone I have ever had. I plan on getting the Xr for my daughter. It’s not too expensive and she loves all the cool colors!

Yep. The XS and XS Max have been roundly rejected in China, but interest in the XR is incredibly high. That's all Apple cares about.

Also considering in other countries, the iPhone XS/XS Max is ridiculously exorbitant in price. The XR it’s still expensive in some respects, but significantly cheaper under the XS in terms of it still has a decent offering with some of the latest tech.

Yep, feels like a month ago when I stayed up for the XS Max. :D

Really.

I stayed up, and got my preorder in. Received it a week later, and returned it a week after that due to a crappy screen. I'm not a fan of OLED at all.

Hopefully this one will end up better....

What? Why? Never really heard anyone that disappointed about OLED.

I’m not woodynorman but I also returned a launch day max and am preordering tonight. While I don’t have anything bad to say about the oled screen, it didn’t wow me enough to keep. The blacks were un’fricken’believeable but Apple’s value proposition wasn’t there for me - especially when factoring in the pricing for upgraded storage tiers.

I’ve researched this phone to bits. I’m not sure what else a hand-son will find. My only hesitation is the XR’s crispness of display.
I think it will do fine for most situations. My only hesitation is giving up the fingerprint scanner. I'm not sold on the face ID concept.

Go watch the new videos on YouTube. One guy put his XS next to the XR and said he couldn't tell the difference. Another referred to the XR screen as razor sharp.

Wow, Away from some of the Yellow variations the Xr are in plenty of supply! Maybe not as much of a hit as others on the thread have predicated???
