Problem is most of the people buying the XR are not the die-hards who are going to stay up until 3am eastern to buy a phone. The die-hard already got their XS/Max.

There is also double the number of colors at 3 storage sizes than the XS/Max; 18 combinations of color/storage instead of 9. Odds are numerically lower any one selection would sell out fast in a few hours.

The tell will be the sales in the first 30 days after launch, and possibly the launch day lines/sales. The preorders dont mean much when dealing with an "every Joe" type of device.

Most iPhone users these days aren’t diehard fans either so I think the only real sign will be the sales figures. I personally don’t know anybody into phones enough to want to queue up for one and pretty much everybody I know uses an iPhone of sorts. Then again in my nearest city only about 15 people queued up for the XS series last month so it’s difficult to gage. I have a strong feeling we’ll see more XR’s in public than the XS as it’s simply appeals to more people.

according to some people 'not sold out on the first day' means people dont like them as much as we thought they would but it can also mean Apple made more of them, or?

Still available for launch date.........Shocking........
Link to the last time Apple earnings disappointed?

I'll help you...Apple crushes earnings and this thing is going to sell really well. No evidence exists that says otherwise.

No one knows anything about pre-order demand and even it's bad/good, the real question is how well with this sell over the next 12 months...not 12 hours.

XR doesn't have the XS/Max hype behind it. I bet a lot of people have no idea it's available for pre-order right now. It will be the best seller in the long run due to price. Also a lot of consumers probably want to see it in person first before deciding.

I was saying something very similar, where the XR has Absolutely had very _little_ marketing since the September 12 keynote. The XS has been obviously pushed through the media since it’s availability, but the XR has almost been nonexistent, but I expect that carriers will support more marketing than Apple will, especially with black Friday quickly approaching.

Looks like even I can still pre-order an XR, get the color and storage I want, and pickup in-store on launch 24 hours after pre-ordered opened. I recently purchased an XS MAX, but was curious if these XR's are selling like hotcakes. I think, the reason why Apple delayed the sale of the XR was for crowd control, similar to last years delay on the X.

I am yet to see an advert for the XR. I think it’ll become more popular once people start to realise it exists. You are probably more likely to see it marketed through carrier deals either on tv or billboards. Just because it hasn’t sold out yet doesn’t mean it won’t be hugely popular. It was dangerous releasing it after the busiest month of the year for upgrades though. That was a strange one.

X to XR is not an upgrade.

In some ways it can be considered an upgrade:

- duel sim capabilities
- band 72 LTE for T-Mobile customers
- better camera (minus telephoto lens obviously)
- battery life
- A12 processor

I know you lose the OLED. I’m not arguing whether it is better or not. Clearly on a technological level, OLED is superior. In my case, however, I was getting headaches using the OLED screen. Because of this, I gladly welcome back an LCD screen over the OLED. My eyes also couldn’t take the color fluctuations of the OLED to hues of yellow at one angle and blue at another. This is with Truetone off, by the way.

You can disagree and that’s fine. For me, it’s a win and an upgrade in value for my situation. Obviously, everyone is different along with their situation in life and real world scenarios.

I'm guessing this will start making the rounds on the tube soon.

I think you're being too kind to Apple.

IMO, they delayed the cheaper phone to maximize sales of the more expensive models... people are funny... if Apple put all three devices on sale on the same pre-sale or launch day, the cheaper phone would be popular given the appearance that all were 'new', home buttonless and similar in appearance. The cheaper price and the multiple color option would have drawn a percentage of purchases away from the XS Max, costing Apple about $500/unit. By delaying the sale of the cheaper model, the "it's new, I have to have it" crowd has already paid the Apple tax to get it now... by waiting, those people had to buy a more expensive model or wait... and waiting is nearly impossible for that crowd, IMO.

With the multiple color options, I see this more like a 5C device than a 5/5S device... it's a "one more thing" item instead of the flagship/keynote headline device.

The XR was never going to be a launch day sellout. That’s not the market it’s aimed at. The die hard musthavethelatestrightnow users are all sitting pretty with their XS/Max. The XR is not targeted at that consumer. It’s aimed squarely at the enormous base of of 5s/6/6s/7 users who are likely to be upgrading over the coming year. The XR will come to outsell the XS in enormous numbers.
Not me, current X going to an Xr. Bigger screen, but not humongous the main, find the X a little small and skinny so wanted more but not as physically big as a Max.

Currently on IUP in UK so first year can upgrade, always had a new iPhone every year

The colour options are about where the similarities end though as it’s pitched too high in price to be the same target audience. It’s not the flagship I agree, but Apples flagship consumer has suddenly shifted to their niche market now it costs the same price as a MacBook lol. The XR will be the iPhone most will relate to going forward I think.

in the video, they say ''the most durable front glass yet''... just the front glass?! couldn't they put the ''most durable'' glass on the back too? would that really be beyond expensive? dont get it

Of course Apple separated the iPhone XS and XR launches, there is no way they would let a cheaper iPhone take away from the iPhone XS limelight, which They want to maximize the potential for their most expensive iPhone offered. But the XR really doesn’t need any marketing either, as carriers will have their own incentives with trade-ins and or promotions offerings, especially with Black Friday with in a Month.

well they did the opposite last year

Is the XR a lot cheaper pay monthly in your country than the XS XS Max? Here in the U.K it is still expensive and there is not much difference per month at least on my network EE.
