CoinX says “iMac/Mac Mini soon - iPad 100% sure”, o think this mean the iPad will be released on 31 March but not the iMac, soon can mean 3/4 months. Still no intel cpus released and it would be the first time in the last years Apple refresh the iMac before the 2 years cycle (2012-2015-2017-2019). Also the update could be the iMac...but Pro (is the same as 2017).

No, CoinX said new camera on the iPad 100%, he was refering to the new camera system that has been rumoured for a while now. The iMac/Mac Mini was a separate tweet.

Yes,
New camera = new iPad = 100% will happen (31 March)

I wonder if it will just be a new camera system, or if they will also beef up the processor and maybe even solve the “bend gate“ issue.

In regards to the iMac it will be interesting to see if that comes later on. If it is indeed later in the year, around WWDC, then we could see a redesign like we did with the Mac Pro and the new Pro display they showed off last year.

I think WWDC for redesign is the most logical spot. If its this month then redesign is probably unlikely as it will just be spec bump. Considering the crappy thermals in the current iMac and the previous gen I feel Apple is taking the piss. The HDD on top if it is just a joke. Not a single store has SSD models in store and its only available online. I even went to try the HDD model just to see if we are all exaggerating. Nope, the sound of HDD alone drove me nuts. I so forgot about these since I switched to SSD in 2012.
Weird that all Apple models are SSD except the iMac.
So yeah, I hope Apple will fix this at WWDC with slimmer bezels, SSD and better GPU + AMD would be a bonus. In fact, I think it would be amazing to have a bigger screen (something like the 30" ACD was), AMD chip, AMD GPU, slim bezels, SSD = we have a winner.

I hate the HDD but I can understand that the iMac is a “office/school/normal” device, a lot of organizations are using it with at least 1Tb storage, they don’t care about the speed or the noise but they need space, and, at the moment, the 1Tb is way to expensive, and 512 is (still expensiv than HDD, plus) not enough.

So I don’t think we’ll see an iMac with only the SSD unless the 1Tb SSD will be less expensive, don’t forget the 512 SSD is still 100/150$ (I don’t remember correct) more expensive than 1Tb fusion in the configurator.

Apple wants to make money and they don’t care about “woah an HDD in 2020, it’s sooo old”, if they can sell it, they do it.

I disagree. They have done it with other products so they should do it with iMac. ie. Update and get up to the tech and time BUT at the same time, keep previous model for EDU etc. purposes. Don't cripple the whole segment by this nonsense.
Right now, HDD wins -> you cannot simply walk to Apple store and walk out with SSD model as they don't have those in stock. Those are online only. Not very good strategy.
If they at least have both in stock. ie. some hdd and some ssd then it would be ok(ish) but as of right now, they prefer HDD and the stores reflect that.
MBPs switched to all SSD in 2012. Do I really need to say more? The whole situation is a joke and we are paying for it.

Who the heck cares whether the base modle has a hdd. I'm not buying that model, are you? If they eliminate it, the SSD prices aren't suddenly going to fall out. There is a reason that the base MBP's don't start with a 1TB SSD. It's all relative. There is something for everyone.

walk into an apple store and try to buy ssd version - yeah, thats one reason why we care. (among many)

Also, its not jsut the base model. All the models have HDD even the highest 27" one. So sure, base model can start with that but then when we progress we need SSD. Ideally, they should redesign, switch all to SSD and forget that nonsense HDD behind. Keep current generation with HDD for edu etc. and you have a winning combo.
They have done this in the past with other models so its not something new to them. They just need to do the same here.

My guess:

Spec & Thermal upgrade in the normal iMac in March / April
Redesigned iMac Pro with Mini-LED end of 2020

Sadly, Apple is quite lazy with Mac desktop especially iMac. iMac 2019 is almost identical with 2012 version. The cooling system still sucks.

I'm sorry guys but on what basis are you sure that no redesign could come in March? And what suggests you that instead it could come 3 months later? I don't understand...

HDD means no Tx chip. I do not see this happening, given every other Mac has it.

Redesign = stage time. For that you need an event so WWDC is perfect for that. I doubt Apple has enough stuff to fill WWDC and make it interesting so some products should be filling the gaps and iMac is probably the right candidate. But yeah, in theory it could be this month too. Maybe with this corona nonsense we might even get just press release ;)

Let's hope T2/TX is available on all iMac models with 2020+ dates. With the latest Intel news, I'm positive it will be an IT requirement from many companies to have T2/TX on all Mac systems moving forward. They will phase out machines without - like old MBP's, old MP's, iMacs. This will impact choices for those that use machines for business use, or have clients that require connecting to their servers (which forces you to abide by their guidelines).

You are right, I know. But do you think they have enough for WWDC?
The rumours are not crazy big on the software side so either there are surprises or it will be mixed with hardware. Alternatively, this corona virus might actually be strategic advantage for them as it might hide the lackluster event which might be just streamed or cancelled all together.
So in that case, they might do it like with 16"MBP :)
Time will tell, its a tricky one for sure

I still don't understand: the MBP 16" (redesign:new speakers, new BT, smaller bezels, new screen, new SSD...) was introduced without an event.

Mine is just hope. Surely you are right too meaning that it's quite unlikely, given it would be quite a radical change for a flagship computer.
Yet, we had also WWDCs without any hw presentation.

I doubt there will be a WWDC. It will be all an online event.

IF they do hold in-person event, it likely will not be in California due to Coronavirus/COVID-19 restrictions beginning to take place. Austin theoretically could be an option IF everything works out with SXSW...

Agreed. iMac is the only Mac in the line up that is still shipping without T2.

And if Apple is adding T2 to iMac, I also expect (1) SSD only and (2) iMac Pro style thermal design.

Beyond those changes, I hope to see:
  • Mac Pro style keyboard (silver case, black keys) and input devices
  • Larger screen with smaller bezels (just a minor redesign like 16-inch MacBook Pro)
  • CPU, GPU, SSD storage capacity bumps

WIfi6 and BT5 should be given for granted with Comet Lake (and even in case of Ryzen).
I would hope for a better webcam, if not a FaceID ToF.

I hope it is :)
I would love to get one announced this month. That would be pretty sweet.

Guys, it's coming. It has to be for me at least. My 2011 iMac just died yesterday, and then I read this a few hours later: https://www.macrumors.com/2020/03/04/coinx-imac-mac-mini/

That must be a sign from the heavens ?

I could borrow my sister's iMac for a few weeks, so just long enough until the new one gets released.

There's lots of little upgrades that they could do in the near future for an improved iMac (wi-fi6, next gen processor, smaller bezels, etc.), but let's remember that the iMac is a consumer machine, and it's already a good value (compared to buying the elements separate to create your own workstation). The current 5k screen is still one of the the best mainstream/consumer screens sold to this day, and the last update improved the thermals to significantly reduce fan noise and throttling. So it seems to me keeping the price reasonable seems to preclude any big screen update.

Are there even appropriate new CPUs available? the 2019s use the 9th gen Intel chips, and I can't see any 10th gen desktop chips available yet - so AMD CPUs or the same Intel ones, but with updated graphics (Navi?)... Maybe if it is a redesign the cooling can be made better to eke more performance out of the existing chips, at least.
