I'm so pissed off, I've had a 27" screen for 10 years and have no interest in a stupidly small 23" iMac. I'm deperate to buy as my old iMac is totally dead. So bloody annoying, sitting like an idiot, waiting for a replacement.

I'm Mac less (My 2012 late 27 incher) died in March. Mine is 'Walking Dead.' (The Bootcamp Windows version still works. Mac partition won't boot. GPU issues.)

The screen works. The hard drive works. But the GPU is fried chicken.

24 inch is ok. But when you get used to a bigger size...(please, no jokes...)

27 inches even feels cramped now.

I want 32 inches though. :) I'd settle for 30 in the bezel reduced enclosure of the 27 inch.

They're *not* going 23 inch only.

Has there been any Apple product with a longer chassis design than the 2012 iMac?
It's been 8 years, even the Mac Pro and Mac mini have gotten redesigns in faster time.

We're over due a change for iMac.

So RDNA 2.0 is looking impressive (watching the PlayStation 5 Reveal).

Yeah. Its amazing. Between almost and just like a animated movie.

I really like what they show in terms of new IPs. That lady crashed on a planet game looked great, Kena looked interesting and cute, that goodbye volcano high looks very interesting in it's style.

Can someone explain why a 32 monitor is desirable? My TV is 32 inch and that thing sits 5 meters away from me.

Are you from 2000?

I just never had to compensate lacking size i suppose. Never got the desire for painful loud music with mega base, gigantic black holes of turned of TVs in my wall, 8k resolution when 4k has not even fully arrived yet, big cars, expensive shirts and what not.

I need legit, holistic (as in, for all the stuff i use on my computer), use cases for a screen so big i have to turn my head to see all since i am just sitting centimetres away from all that real estate.

For a person that does trading, a coder, video editor or musician this extra real estate is gold.
Less neck twisting and looking all over the place.
Though I will say that 32" on a flat panel is not the best experience. 29-30" is optimal. Anything after that - curved panel ftw.

Well, you are doing it wrong. Its not even a discussion. If you look at THX guideline and also other guidelines, then you will find out that 5 meters away on 32 is basically terrible. I have 65" and sit about 3m which is pretty much perfect distance for movies. Its all about how much vision is covered etc. I can provide chart if you want.
Regardless, your tv is too small. No ifs or buts.
If you want more, I can provide. :)

So, 32inc screen is awesome for many reasons especially for working real estate. If you set it up right you have so much to gain.
Put your 32inch tv to the kitchen and buy yourself at least 75" which is probably just about right for your distance. :)

It really depends on what you doing with it. I have 21.5“ display for my Mac Mini that I use for light office use. I have a Dell U3014 and an Asus 27” for my 5,1 Mac Pro running Logic and a 43” 4K to replace both monitors would be better. A 32” iMac would probably be the minimum for me to go with an iMac again for my DAW.

Yup.

Breathtaking games.

Gorgeous console design.

RDNA2 is packing some wallop!!!

Go PS5! GO! GO!!!

...and why bigger? Cos it's better. :D

Seriously.

32 inches with high dpi. eg. 6k XDR.

More image. More detail.

Creator's dream.

A 5k iMac screen would be a step up for me. (from Late 2012 iMac...) But I'm hoping they boost the 27 inch iMac's screen size to 30-32 and res' as well.

An 8k iMac...at 32 inches...der-rool. DER-DROOL!!!!!!

Maybe because it won't be a 27", it will be a 32" ???

Amen to that.

32 inches! COME ON APPLE!

iMac heaven.

I am hopeful at WWDC for an iMac redesign and also a Pro version with 32" screen at 5k resolution.
That said, I would love to see stand alone displays at 27" and 5k around $2.5k.
I love the XDR but at $6k+ stand, is out of reach to most of us.

Trust me. It is. ;)

Guys and tvs. Must be bigger. BIG-UR.

I've seen 8k TVs. They're stunning. They bury 4k TVs.

And Dell's 8k display? 'Momma...'

I do so much scrolling, and a larger screen would reduce the need for that. It would be nice to be able to view more code at one time, but that is most dependant on screen height, so I'd love to see squarer aspect ratio. 16:10 would be good, 3:2 excellent, but unfortunately I doubt that will happen. But larger screen would be nice anyway.

As to the talk of 23" only. I doubt that, especially as the 23" was rumoured for the second half of the year. It might not be on leaked database yet. Although the second half of the year is only weeks away...

If the screen size is increased, I expect the pixel density to remain similar, so I think 5K would be unlikely. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 6K XDR panel, but with standard LED backlighting.

I want doesn't get! Manners, Azrael. Gosh!!!!

I agree. I was fine using a 27in 4K screen, but moving to 32in has been amazing. I can't go back to smaller than 32in now...

16k or bust for me. I have high standards ;)

This is what I am praying for, 32in and 6k (I'd even take 4k or 5k tbh), with a lower spec panel. It doesn't really need to be improved on the 5k panel tbh. That already looks great. Even a dumbed down version would be super expensive I think. I don't think they can simply use the worse panels that come off the production line can they? It's not like a Ryzen 3800X that doesn't cut the mustard, which is a 3700X, etc.

I don't see a 32'' being the next iMac size. The reason this size was used for the Pro Display was to accommodate the bigger "professional" rooms the display would be in.

For home use a 32'' may be too large for many setups, 29'' would probably be the next iteration.

So talk of a transition to ARM and only one database filing for a new iMac. Hmm I think some of the wild eyed here looking for 32" iMacs and new designs et al are going to be disappointed. A new 23" new design, possibly ARM for the low end seems feasible and perhaps a really mild spec bump for the 27". 2021 is looking like the big change year.

I think the iMP may get a 32" 6K, which would justify an RDNA2 GPU and a late October/early November availability.

I don’t see a 32” iMac in the cards. It just encroaches too much into XDR territory.

I could see a 30” iMac which will make it enough of a jump for existing 27” owners.
This would of course be paired with the much rumoured 23” smaller iMac.

Come down tiger :)

No 8K please. That would make it more expensive and pretty useless. It would negate the GPU gains also etc.

6K 32" panel (same as XDR) would be awesome.

The reason why XDR is so expensive is probably not because of the panel itself but everything around it that makes it expensive. miniLEDs and all those fancy layers.

And yeah, that RDNA2 looked awesome. Were all those ingame renders or was something pre-rendered? Because if all of it was in game rendered then that truly is spectacular. The SSS skin shaders, refractions, blur, particles etc. Wow

So, to sum up -

6K 32" panel
RDNA2 - because Apple can ship it a month or so later and that wait is miniscule compared to what we get
no fusion mamma bull turd
modern look -> slim bezels :)
and ram door with better cooling :) (no need for imac pro internal as this will be different :) )

Can we pray together? :-D

Or it would allow consistency so you have iMac + external XDR next to it and you have a nice setup. Just like 27" ACD + 27" iMac.

XDR is fancy but the tech will trickle down. Its not if but when.

So is now the time when we get the panel or still too early?

I don’t see a 32” iMac in the cards. It just encroaches too much into XDR territory.

You gotta be kidding? Well, comparing thing side by side. Having more room to see tools in video & photo editing. Being able to run browser windows side by side. List is almost endless. Sure enough, there are cases where people don't want that big of a screen, but it is unlikely to be the only option.

It's been 8 years, even the Mac Pro and Mac mini have gotten redesigns in faster time.

The MacBook Air, for all intents and purposes, has only seen mild changes since its inception in 2008.

I wonder if all those clamoring for a 30-32" model will be as happy when the line starts at $2000? Or more?

There haven't been many users of the 27" 5K panel, with Apple helping to keep that production line alive for all these years.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not aware of any Retina-class monitors in that size range, aside from the XDR, which is of course $5k.

If Apple is again the primary customer for what is practically a bespoke panel, how will its costs be amortized? Especially for a desktop model that sells in lower volumes than laptops?

Maybe in 2028, folks will again be wondering why the iMac hasn't changed in eight years.
