The middle one to be honest. Although, if I'm being honest, if you are graphic designer by trade then I would like to see a better version. :))))

I am a graphic designer by trade and I had some fun playing with what the new design could look like. I took in consideration all the rumors - having an iPad Pro like design language, Pro XDR Bezels and I put in the visual design of the XDR stand. The only question is what do they do with the Iconic chin. My guess is they won’t be getting rid of it completely.

Which won do you guys think Apple with go with? I personally like the reduced chin look.

FACE ID CAMERA - so it can auto log you in based on a scan of your face (with multiple accounts set up in the OS)

And will auto-lock the computer if your face is out of sight of the camera for 5 seconds or more... And then auto-login another account if they sit at the computer.

Etc.

It would be useful for my home environment. I can see that happening one year... Maybe not this soon yet though - I guess it might be more of an OS hope also.

Pretty sure they need to keep the chin if they also want the slim look. The Chin is where they'll have output ports (USB, TB3) if they don't mount them on the middle back like other monitors (which add to it's depth). And since apple is all about how slim the iMac looks like a big back is a no no. (We might loose access to the upgradable ram though).

Pretty sure we'll see smaller bezzels (think mbpro level of bezels) and a smaller chin.

Am I doing the Ryan/Azrael signature thingy right?

So what are you guys going to do if WWDC doesn't bring a new design 27" iMac and only a new 24"?

I’ve already been considering downsizing from my 27”. As long as Apple can retain that magical 218 PPI then that means a higher resolution than the 21.”5” and I’d like to see how much screen real estate we’ll actually get.

Clock speed is way too low on 35w CPUs. Real impact on performance at this point. Not gonna be this for sure.
A better solution would be to take the components of MBP16 and put them into a larger 23 inch case and cool these components silently also under max load.

The Chin is where they'll have output ports (USB, TB3)
For ports they can use Al on the back, no front chin needed...the current chin is for ventilation and speakers purpose
but if they go "ipad pro" style they can make the speakers and ventilation goes to the left and right sides

I am still amazed how crazy everyone is about the front, you look into it to work, it's a monitor, your doing very lazy work when you stare at the chin. It's like craving that steelbook bluray that will sit indistinguishable on your shelf for the most time of the coming 20 years.
I worry about the back. I want a RAM door, i want classic USB ports still to be included, i want a SD slot to still be present. I worry about a bigger price bump.

Compared to the "blast furnace" 125W K-series, I agree, and I expect those will be in the 27-inch as a BTO upgrade for the "power users" and then 65W units for the base configurations.

But the 23-inch model is said to be "cheaper" and if it is supposed to showcase the future ARM design aesthetic, then the 35w models might be acceptable since those models are used for "general purpose computing" that don't need maximum performance - and the 35W models still have decent clocks in the Turbo modes. And if it is the only model with a new design, then Apple could push it (and it's ARM-powered successors) as the "iMac Air" that some have been suggesting - a model designed to be thin and quiet (if not light, since it's a desktop) and the 27-inch iMac and iMac Pro would be for the "heavy lifting" tasks.

Either that or we start with a "thick" case to handle the fans needed to address the Intel and AMD TDPs and then when they switch to ARM they reduce the thickness to accommodate the better efficiency.
Yes "cheaper" does not mean "cheap". An 23 inch "air" with 35W processor or the same CPU as in MBP16 makes perfect sense. Perfect home/office machine for those who want a larger screen than a laptop. The "H" chip are expensive though but development costs could be shared with MBP16.

For home/office use, will a 35 W chip be perceived as slower than the 125W? There will be obvious differences for renders and video exports but that is not normal office/home tasks. The odd family video would take some time to export but who would care really care.

So what are intel making them?

As I buy it for home use to replace a 2014 MBP, a sleek 23-24 inch computer is what I look for. A 27 inch in a smaller case might be acceptable.

Screen/computer looks great but the stand seems unnecessary heavy. Put the MPB16 components in that package and I buy it.

But from the point of view of practicality, this would be the best option, because in this case the line could get RDNA 2.0 on board, and this is a very weighty argument.
Does RDNA 2.0 give anything else than a better gaming experience? Will rendering of 3D models be better/faster? Can AMD Pro Render utilise it?

First of all it is investing in the future. RDNA 2 will remain for a long time for the next updates, and the first iteration, as mentioned above, will be forgotten quite quickly. All improvements, APIs and other similar things will most likely take into account the peculiarities of RDNA 2.

Otherwise, we are faced with a situation like with iPhones. At first they release a new design and some nice improvements with the “X” model, but then the “X” + S comes out and gets real benefits. Believe me, if released now, the next update will not take long. Just like it was in 2014-2015s

I can't think of a single monitor, TV, or any consumer device with a screen, that has such large bezels. The current design is truly horrible imo. I wouldn't go near it with a 100ft pole. Sure, it's not as critical as the form factor of laptops, but nonetheless, it is not an excuse to ignore it. Has anyone said, the design is around 12 years old (stupid side tapering does not count).

I talked about the chin.

But still, even the bezels i have had in front of my face since... probably 2007 now never bothered me.

because you are used to your 2007 device....after you use a modern display for a while...go back to your 2007
Premium with premium prices means you expect top notch device, from components inside to the design outside
Like cars...you want best of everything inside out...best design outside/inside and best reliability (the last thing nowadays is a gift if it last more than 5 years with no issues)
Same design for a decade means 0 R&D and 0 money spent...so why we should pay for the same price or higher for a device that has same design like 10 years ago? (included inflation and everything)
Even in cars world, after around 7 years the platforms and design are changed

I get all of that. Yet still i care more about the functionality. I care more about having a RAM door so i can save some cash, i care more about having a RAM door because maybe it enables me to upgrade my RAM a lot more in the future and give my device more longevity, i care about still having classic USB and a SD slot present so i don't have to mess with "the new amazing beautiful design" by immediately having x dongles and adapter cables attached to it day in day out. I care more about "no fusion drive" because a base model with 1TB SSD (high end 27 inch) would help me from attaching a Samsung T5 right away.

The size on the Apple logo in front of the device is about the lowest possible priority i worry about in a possible redesign as it, just as the bezels, very likely won't affect the work i am doing negatively. Same as it won't affect my work if they are gone, theres no logo and an edge to edge display. It dos not matter to me because i am buying this computer to work with it most of the time and occasionally play a game with it.

I like the chin, but the bezels can go.

The chin gives space for the speakers, and extra area to increase the device's overall volume and heat sink. If the chin goes, the back gets correspondingly fatter.

Keeping the chin but with razor thin bezels will look really sharp.

That is a never ending waiting game. At some point you must step onto the train. The question is if RDNA2 is useful for actual work or not.

Agree 100%. but we all need to care for design too....they need to get rid of that design, interior and exterior...for great functionality you need also a proper thermals and that cannot be done with the same inside design...fusion drive must go, its a must...and the exterior design has to go also, it has a flaw design...for someone that uses the imac to the max with over 2000rpm hours per day, after 1 year, because the air is taken through the chin, the dust particles enter and reach the bottom of the display...for some it takes 1cm, for others almost 3-4 cm...because the lamination is not done by microns...so, the current design must go...too hot for today components and so on

The ipad pro design is done right ! for intel or arm cpu. Since its a desktop we are not goona have "bend gate" since it will be a lot thicker, but the way speakers are placed, the lamination the vent/vents and the power source can be placed the right way ! The single question is, until passive cooling ARM, how they will design the air flow...they will make a door behind the imac, like they did for decades...or...a new stranger design

I just feel that people put shiny shiny bling bling over what actually matters. Like, i don't mind, whatever, it's your money. But i just won't stage a breakdown over bezels that have zero effect on what i actually NEED.
as soon as there is a new iMac I will buy it, because I need it to work, even if it only turns out to be a specs bump Without a redesign.
