Are you guys willing to buy an iMac with the new Comet Lake CPUs? They’re called “10th Gen”, but they’re still the 5 year old 14 nanometer architecture. This seems ancient, especially looking forward to the 5 nanometer A14 CPU. The iPhone 12 will out perform every new iMac in single core performance and outperform at least the Core i3 iMac in multicore performance. It’s kind of embarrassing to have a desktop computer that performs worse than a cell phone.

Even if you compare it to other Intel CPUs, the MacBook Air/Pros are on 10 nanometer. AMD Ryzen is 7 nanometer. So to launch a new iMac with 14 nanometer is unfortunate.

Leaked from iOS 14.

This is why Intel sucks. Even Jim Keller left Intel within 2 years.

Cant see ARM chips in the iMacs for some time and it would be odd to release an updated design of the iMac if they were going to change processor in it.

Intel Mac wont gonna exist too long. All Macs will be replaced with ARM chips and it took around 1 year to replace all PPC to Intel. Apple already made a prototype in 2018 so why not?

Kuo reckoned in March that ARM was coming to desktops in 2021. Whether that schedule has slipped due to Covid is anyone's guess.

Interestingly this guy thinks ARM will come to lower end machines first:-

"Don't expect the first Arm-based Macs until at least 2021 — and these will almost assuredly be on lower-end machines.".

I wonder how likely it is that Apple will release iMacs in three consecutive years, assuming redesigned iMacs announced next week. Wasn't that long ago people were wondering if they were ever going to see another iMac.

Oh, I know, don't worry. Just adding to the iMac bonfire. Not much else going on, is there? ;)

I bet 50% of laptop users don't actually need a laptop, and would be fine with a desktop. I suppose the 'hassle' of buying a separate monitor, mouse and keyboard is enough to make the average lazy person faint.
You are right that most laptops are used as desktops. It is not laziness, it is just an ugly and untidy setup you describe.

MacBook Air fansink is not directly connected to the CPU and gets noisy quickly. MacBook Pro 16 heats a lot. MacBook Pro 13 is decent. iMac 2019 heats a lot. Mac mini is decent. iMac Pro is decent.
Are Apple computers worse than the corresponding PCs in the same form factor?

Thats a great point. The Pro Stand dos not have the broadening bend. Great catch to actually confirm this image as iMac icon.

Not sure if you had it mixed up, but he’s referring to the Thunderbolt Display, not the stand for the XDR Pro Display. The icon is basically identical to the TBD appearance.

I think some people are getting their hopes way too high in this thread. The redesigned iMac may not happen at WWDC. I’m really hoping that it does but it may not.

The very reliable leaker Jon Prosser, has not mentioned WWDC as a release date for the iMac. He mentioned the over ear headphones Airpods Studios were aimed for WWDC, but there’s a possibility that we see no hardware at this years WWDC.

"[...] very reliable leaker Jon Prosser ???"

If I am not wrong he said a new iMac was almost ready to be shipped months ago, but he never gave us any more hint about that. What he posted after that was only useless emoticon...

Jon Prosser is one of the most reliable leakers, he leaked a number of things. On one occasion he even gave the time and the date. He has sources inside Apple.

He however did mention that iMac was supposed to be released in March, got delayed due to covid and has been ready to ship now for a while.
iMac might have still been planed to fill the gap created last weekly delaying WWDC for two weeks and might have gotten delayed again do to riots, ongoing protests taking over the news Media... but eventually it will happen because Apple needs to get it's new hardware into the stores (wich are now reopened more or less globally?)

Prosser also said he dos not know much about iMac, on a Podcast weeks back he was talking about how he could only imagine that it happens at WWDC if it is a redesign, but that was him just guessing not leaking.

Pile on that that there are a few sources claiming a redesign it feels a lot more of a certainty to me than it did two weeks ago that there will be a redesign at WWDC.

If there is no redesign, worst case, Apple waits another two to four weeks to release a non redesigned specs bump, because new iMac hardware exists and it's dead weight in their warehouses - according to Prosser. But there is a new iMac coming, it's inevitable going to happen soon.

I'm not saying it won't happen, i 100% want it to be true! i need to update from my 2012 iMac. However i remember getting my hopes up last year that they would redesign the iMac (it never happened).

I do believe Jon Prosser when he says that the iMac is ready to ship, i just don't know if it's redesign or a simple spec bump. With everything that has gone on in recent times, it could of easily messed with Apple's decision to release products.

i think is quite impossible (or at least unresonable) to immagine a no-introduction of new iMAc at WWDC.... Apple is not selling iMac since quite 1 month and half due to long shipping time for 27inch....

That could simply be down to issues with production and sales, look at the iPad Pro. The shipping dates for that are longer (here in the U.K anyway) it's now into July. That in itself doesn't mean there is a redesigned iMac coming.
