As long as someone from Apple doesn't stand in front of a projected image of an iMac with bezels and then proclaim that the screen is "edge to edge"; like they did with the iPad Pro. I'll never get over that. It was like the Emperor's new clothes. Someone please help Apple distinguish between a screen and a bezel.

I say apple makes the bezels bigger!

My question is if this is a mid 2020 iMac when will the first revision be coming out early 2021 or as soon as late 2020? as a buyer of the late 2014 5k I wish I had waited and purchased the early 2015 as it had a big boost in disk write read speeds

Nobody outside Apple knows. Your best bet is to purchase what you need when there’s a new product that has few enough compromises for your specific use case.

Almost everything you can buy technology based will be old half a year from now. Buy for what you need not based on FOMO.

Apple tends to do the quick revisions only when they have added something with much higher demands and need to improve how it meets those demands. This has usually been when they added retina screens. So the iPad 3rd gen was quickly replaced by the iPad 4th gen, and the iMac had the mid and late 2015 versions. Luckily I got the late 2015.

I don't think there is any expectation of something of that nature for this iMac revision. The only issue is if there is some fault in the new design that they need to correct quickly, but I would expect fixes for those already sold in that event.

Ooh, ooh, I know this:
I recently bought a used Merc C-class for $7500. Even if I would ditch the car in the sea in five years I'm still way more than $20k ahead in this particular investment while having used a car that's way less than $100k worse than yours. That would be communism, amirite? 😂

i would never drive a new C class, let alone a used one.

So okay there (probably) will be a new iMac design next week. And my guess is it will probably no longer allow us to install our own RAM. Then god I hope it will at least have standard 16Gb of memory (I want 32Gb). Current upgrade price from 8Gb to 32Gb is €750  and for 64Gb it is €1250  where I live. Pretty insane. Hope it will not be that steep or else.... wait even longer for the prices to come down again? Do with 16Gb? Or 2018 Mac mini after all? Anybody pays that kind of price for an extra 24Gb/56Gb?

And it's easy to build a 3rd party tower at 1/4 the price that will beat the daylights out of any HPE, Dell, Lenovo, Fujitsu, Intel, Huawei, (insert 1st Tier OEM here) base config.

At a certain point, customers stop focusing on the Bill of Materials inside the machine

Apple couldn't compete with 'Mac' competition when they had 'some' Mac competition...with Power Computing. This, despite their boast that, 'If we can't build something faster and cheaper then Power Computing then something is wrong.' One of their own marketing chiefs at the time.

Pointing 'us' to other tier vendors who have better current AiO and Mac Mini and Tower options is somewhat amusing. 'Choice.' And in Dell's case, a cheaper 8k monitor option with a higher resolution for nearly half the price. :p Or from all of them? A consumer tower.

Whilst Apple's 'duvet' Tower will set you back £6k for a chronic spec and 'gouchi' display chimes in at £5k plus a £1k bling stand.

£12k. Guess where Apple's head is? *There's no polite answer for that* rhetorical question.

Apple could use their supply chain to bring better deals on Ram. They don't.

They'll charge you £200 extra for 8 gigs extra.

Or £800 for a laptop 5 teraflop gpu that modestly 'outperforms' the £100 upgrade. 8 times the price...for a third more performance. Mediocre, middle of the road performance. But exceptional pricing.

Welcome to another day of ad infinitum discussion on whether the iMac bezels will be reduced, and if so by how much. Today's topics also likely to include financing of Apple products and whether Intel's 10 gen chips really are getting hotter. Contributions expected from leading climate change denialists.

There's always climate change. Eg. That big fire ball in the sky being the main culprit.... Man vs big fireball in the sky...

And some may argue that Intel cpus are doing their bit to add 'fire' to the debate.

Apparently the last intel chip powering an iMac is not as hot as we expected. Ok, Jay water cools it, but it's still a good result. Besides, the new AMD Ryzen9 3900XT has a TDP of 105W and AMD themselves suggest water cooling.

The only winner will soon be Apple. 5nm chips with the same performance but very likely TDP in the order of 40W.

iToaster.

Yes. In one sentence. Mac 'ARM.'

Efficiency. It was the reason they moved away from PPC.

I understand your reasoning, but debt is still a burden even at 0%. The fed rate is near zero, so the only way to make a decent return is to add some risk — if you’re ok with that, then you’ll come out ahead — especially after a 2 year period. Maybe a decent high dividend telecom?

0%. You get to keep your money longer. They get to wait for their money longer.

You get the 'kit'.

If I they still have this offer on the new iMac. I'll take it.

Look at it this way...I just ordered at new BMW X7 for $113k. I have the ability to just buy it with cash...but at 0.9% it’s almost free money. I can invest wisely and after 5 years it will have cost me no more than $30k. Capitalism at its best.

Well. Yes. The 1st £100k is the hardest.

One day the iMac 'ARM' may be something like this.

But the Intel iMac will be more like the XDR with iPad edge design. Just a big version of the iPad on a 'foot' some may say.

But with appropriate thickness for the 'PC' components eg. 'hot' Intel and ('last years') Radeon based components in there.

1592398866772.png

Though I prefer the 'foot' on this one...

1592398947287.png

I'm wondering if we get the pivot mechanism from the XDR...or...the 'same' stand and 'hinge' that we have now. I can't say the ergonomics on the current adjustability are great.

I wonder. Will we ever get this when it goes to Mac 'ARM.' And Apple pencil support.

The latter is still a more progressive design for creatives like myself.

I'll content myself with an iPad and 'side car' at some point with the new iMac. There's always procreate on iPad.

An infinite art shop with infinite paper.

I'm sure you know that post wasn't directed at you :)

The analogy I was trying to make is that you won't find Indiana Jones bragging about his adventures on an internet forum, because he's way too busy doing what he does.

Let's say someone on the internet talks about how he's able to afford what he believes is an expensive car. Due to the condescending way he worded his post it appears as if he's trying to impress complete strangers on an online Apple forum (let that sink in) because either a) no one in real life will listen or b) he's insecure and trying to compensate for it.

Regardless of wether any of my assumptions are accurate, there's always a bigger fish and trying to talk down on others will make the person in question seem narrow minded in regards to the bigger picture. Someone's 100k car is chump change to someone else.

Ewww, curved corners on a PC screen. Nope nope nope.

if i squint hard enough, it could well be 32 inches. Lovely jubbly.

Yes, the current iMac stand has to go. All other monitors have better stands.

You are stupid to bully the one guy taking his car for an example. He has a great car and income, let’s be happy for our mac brother and talk about the meaning of his post, not the example he used. I just bought 2019 BMW 118i and I’m happy to upgrade it to a larger BMW model when I can. In the meantime I’m happy to use the new iMac to edit pics of my not so expensive car.

Hope the iMac has even more amazing screen to look at it. ;) These new pics look certainly great!

Are we there yet?

The one with the stock out. 27 inches. Hopefully boosted screen size in the same foot print.

But that may cost 'way' more.

Where as, I'd guess the difference between the 21 and the 23 is nominal. Or that the 'tiny' and 'cramped' 21 incher is being discontinued. Qualitatively, the 21 incher shouldn't have been an iMac in my view. I'd rather than had kept the 24 incher and dropped it in as the new entry model to the bigger 27 incher. But that's academic now. Goodnews that the 24 incher is making a comeback.

At a cheaper £999 with decent 5600XT BTO, decent gaming Mac right there.

If these "leaks" and renders are anything like what is revealed on Monday, then there's no way Apple won't be hiking the prices up, especially if the iMac has FaceID.

£2500 for a base model desktop with 8GB RAM and a 256 SSD anyone? With an extra £200 to upgrade either...

IF £2500 included a screen size boost, 16 gigs of ram, a 512 SSD and a 5700 Pro, improved speakers, face time boost, and cooling? They may be able to swing it. But that's a £700 jump from the current entry model. (But given what Apple's done to the Macbook range where the bigger model starts at over £2k? *looks nervous.)

The 23/4 inch iMac may be the excuse to increase the 27's price. With the 24 incher more affordable at the entry point...but the 27 incher £2k and higher to claw that back. The kind of move Apple's brazen marketing would do.

Well, we only have Apple's recent form book as our guide.

I can't say their pricing has been 'great.'

We look at the Mini, Mac Tower, the 13 inc Macbook rides all the way up to £2k. (Remember when you could get a 15 inch Macbook Pro for under £2k?) £1k stand. £700 wheels. £800 for a 5 tflop gpu (...for what is essentially mediocre performance.)

If the price is the same, we'll do well given previous 'new' moves.

Current iMac stand doesn't support height adjustment, the screen position is just barely adeguate for most desks without needing a custom raiser.
What I'm noting now from all of these renders is that without a chin the screen will be even lower!
That's a great problem in my opinion, what about you?

Once Apple drop Intel and the iMac becomes a large iPad I’m out. This will be my last Mac as I will go back to self-build PCs. There’s so little difference these day’s between Windows and MacOS anyway, both buggy OS’ that I may as well have a machine of my choosing along with all the latest components.

I think they should 'mass produce' the ridiculously priced 'lump of alu' £1k stand for the iMac masses.

...problem solved.

If Apple jack up prices on this. This will probably be my last Mac.

For others, it may be the move to Mac ARM. (I doubt Apple will pass on the 'ARM' savings to customers...) But dropping Intel is of little consequence to me. I'm more concerned about their cynical marketing and egregious BTO pricing and upsell and general jacking up of prices...so you end up getting far less for your money.

The tower example being the worst offender and example. (Wheels...stands...low end gpus...)

Still. Apple can still surprise us on pricing and value.

The 23 incher is allegedly more affordable. Not at the expense of the 27 inch being more 'expensive....' one hopes.
