I lived in UK for 12 years and I got used to.
Honestly, the complaining mentality drove me nuts at first until I realise that without complaining there isn't much change.

And I really realised that when I arrived in Quebec and people here are content with horsecrap. I would send them all to UK for a year to learn to complain and learn to demand more. Suddenly the food, customer service, services etc. would improve. Right now, here it feels like they live 10-20 years behind rest of the world. :D :D :D

So be proud to be a complaining brit. It has got tons of benefits :D :D :D

I’m a Quebecois.

And we are the king at complaining but doing nothing.

Just look at our sh*tty roads and infrastructures ... ahah.

Our cars break because of our sh*tty roads, literally.

I love so much England. Never been there, unfortunately, but I was planning to after finishing my master. Wanted to visit Oxford, UCL, Cambridge, Wimbledon. I loooooooove so much the british accent. Listening shows on netflix only because of the beautiful accent British have. God save the Queen !

At least Apple isn't 10-20 years behind with their computers...

...wait a minute...the iMac has had the same design for essentially 12 years now? And the Mac Tower was 6 years awol. And the Mac Mini had to wait 4 years...and we're stilling waiting to get a 'mid-range' gpu from 'last' year...

...ahh...that feels better. :)

Yes it is mine.
Actually i am quiet surprised comparing it to other Macs at Geekbench. Single core only about a third below the best scoring 27 inch iMac, multicore the best (non pro) iMac is only about four times better. Explains why i am actually happy with what i got (asides the videoedeting issues).

Now, when it comes to the Metal Score i am looking at a 20x improvement with the Radeon Pro 580X, not even bringing the vega 48 into the conversation yet entering at 30x what i got now. Thats going to be interesting, but i assume the 5k dealio also takes away from that new power.

Almost makes me consider going for eGPU and have more RAM build into this one... just that eGPU dos not (?) work on a machine this old without USB-C i believe. Ah, it's okay, time for something new.

Well done on keeping it that long.

The fact is that Single Core Intel hasn't made great strides. (And people are worried the Mac ARM won't out perform Intel on single thread...) It's been so incremental over the last half a decade it's untrue.

The last time I looked at single and multicore for my machine, I wasn't 'that' impressed with 2019 iMacs.

Though I'm sure I'll notice an 8-10 core machine over my quad core.

GPU. You're in a for an order of magnitude treat.

And with your new machine on TB3 you'll have the option for 'blast off' with an eGPU RDNA2. Which will probably start at £450 for a 6700XT when they expand the stack downwards right up to Big Boy Navi 2 at £999 (6900XT?)

i wouldn't be surprised to see a worse Navi 20 bundled into iMacs, rather than a better Navi 10.
But all in all, this Navi 12 (5xxx) seems the logical choice, even for Apple :)

as far as design goes, just look at the 16" MBP (or Ipad Pro for that matter) and replace (in your mind :)) the keyboard part with a standing foot, scale the screen to 23" and there's your iMac redesign.

my bet is on Navi12 for 23/30" and Navi2X for the iMac Pro later in the fall.

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

This 23" in mid tier with a 4K 21" option in the low would be a nice range, especially if they could get one under $1000. The 2015 4K 21" is always around for $500-$600 used and with some slight modernization could make iMac an awesome line for a lot more people if Apple wanted to keep deriving value from that design, which I am sitting in front of right now, a 2017 model, utilizing its AMD 560X to the max, and it looks great despite the 8" bezel, but Monday cannot come soon enough.

I think there is a strong case for a £599 21 inch iMac. Apple used to sell one of the old 'fruit' based iMacs at that price here in the UK. Yes. Folks. A Mac with a keyboard, mouse and screen for under £1k. True dat.

21 inch. HD screen. 256 gig SSD (they cost nothing....) quad core cpu with iGPU. Sell it to schools. Very cost conscious consumers.

Give plenty of room to have 23 inch 4k iMacs at £1450. £1250. £999. £799.

mac revolution

It's been a while.

...add the 'new' iMac...

...and the Mac ARM annoucement together...

And I can see Steve Jobs waving his pirate flag from somewhere in the ether.

Assuming you’re talking about the boxy rainbow coloured beauts the last model of those was 2003 where £599 in 2003 is equivalent to roughly £954 in 2019 according to BOEs inflation calculator. so we’re not really too far off from those levels if we account for inflation..

I'm not a Brit, per se, but my family came from the Island Empire. Ancestry DNA says so (98%). OK, it was in the 1600's, but I still consider the UK to be my second home. (Been there a few times, and often want to re-immigrate back to the land of fish and chips and puddings.) Hence, I complain too!

[And now, the important part:] There has been a LOT to complain about this past... decade? Apple-nic's EXPECT better. St. Steve de Jobs taught us that! Thus, we complain because our wants and needs aren't being met, especially at the prices that we've been charged these past few years. We're tired of the 'horsecrap'. (Freida's words, not mine)

Come on WWDC!!! Don't let us down!

Today I went to the Apple premium reseller in my city and I asked the guy why they don’t have any 27-inches iMac in store, but only 21.5-inches. The guy told me that’s because the new iMac is coming. I‘ve asked him, which version? and he said: “I know 27 inches" 👀

Navi 22/23 will be better than Navi 10/10+, however they will not be ready until the end of the year at the earliest so the Mid-2020 iMac will likely be a mix of Navi 12 (lpre-configured) and Navi 10 (BTO). The iMac Pro will have the cooling (and the market roles) for Navi 22/23 and Navi 21 (the most powerful GPU) will be in an MPX card for the Mac Pro.

Be prepared to be surprised by the British accents. There are many, none of them the ones you hear on American TV or movies, not even when it is a British actor. So you need to watch British shows on Netflix, otherwise you're hearing something as genuine as an MacBook lookalike.

My accent is like a PC tower that has been built from components. Lincolnshire as a base, but with bits of south London and Scouse (Liverpool), plus smaller bits of Geordie (Newcastle), Oxfordshire, Cheshire and Isle of Wight. I've moved around for jobs.

Yes. Rainbow iMacs. I do miss them.

If Apple can do a 'star trek' device for £350 (iPad...)

...then an iMac for £599 isn't such a stretch.

'Inflation.' Meh.

Azrael.

Lol. He clearly doesn’t know anything about it. Even Apple employees doesn’t know anything about the new iMac. Why a reseller would know something about it ?

Well, we can HOPE, can't we? At this point we're looking for any nugget of information to give us hope! :)

Navi 2X is in PS5, XBOX X and will be available as standalone cards fall '20 apparently.

Yeah I watched a couple like The Crown and a couple of Harlan Coben series.

Well, you aren't going to miss Wimbledon this year, so don't worry. Maybe you can pay a visit next year ;)

Which British accent? The 'posh' one, or... the Scouse accent? haha

I am actually surprised how much this calmed down. Last time someone reported something it was Gurman on the 9th. pretty much summing up the twitter leakers that said redesign and no more fusion drive in the days before his post.
Solid nine days without anything. GPU leaks were in May.
I assume prices are harder to leak, but some more info on ram door, ports, pictures... seems to be under wraps pretty much.

My condolences for having hints of the Scouse and Geordie accent. Must have been very difficult growing up. On the other hand, I have non-accent (typical bloke from the SE).

Well, one thing may be a surprise, given iOS 14 has completely leaked, Mac OS is always a non-update for me, and the rest we somewhat know - headphones, AirTags etc.

Also i recommend to watch "Snatch", because it's a great movie and because afterwards you either know if you can understand some British or if you would starve outside of london.
I think I'd starve. I'm not brave enough to venture out on a Saturday night in the deepest, darkest parts of the North...
