What keeps baffling me is that the models in backorder are the iMac 27" and the iMP, while the 21.5" seems in good stock.

Exactly the opposite of what more than one rumour led to think.

It's weird... I still think if they are doing to update just ONE iMac, it will be the 27" one. Who even buys the tiny ones anymore?

Just a few more days to go. I can't wait!!!!! (to be disappointed)

I hate to post questionable YouTube videos, but this video touches on a few gaming benchmarks for the new 5600M. It's actually not that bad... A 5700M could do wonders if north of 100w.

At 50W it performs like RTX 2070 at 115W in Windows like a guy commented.

"I have the asus scare3 i7 9750H RTX 2070 115W And i barely get 144 fps at 1080p epic settings in fortnite How the hell is a 50W tdp chip getting that much power specially with the very average cooling of a MacBook !!!"

Yeah, I've noticed all the bad stuff here very quickly.

The construction is controlled by mafia, food is bad (even though people believe its really good - still amazes me),
taking a bixi on your way home is basically suicide in the evening because of the roads and banking and services are literally 20 years behind. And please don't get me started on the hospitals or emergencies. I once waited 6 hours to be seen when I had spine/head injury!!! and the nurse had the audacity to tell me that I'm lucky because most people wait around 12 hours!!!

Anyway, you are right. You might complain but I feel not to the right people.

On the other hand, the life here is not as hectic as in London and the property market is cheap. For families its super friendly so its not all bad.

It could be much better though if the main focus wasn't on french vs english. :))))

Anyway, one day I'll start a complaining movement here and maybe we will achieve an improvement. :D :D :D

Now Apple, show us how its done on monday, PLEASE!!! :D :D :D

I’m a Quebecois.

And we are the king at complaining but doing nothing.

Just look at our sh*tty roads and infrastructures ... ahah.

Our cars break because of our sh*tty roads, literally.

I love so much England. Never been there, unfortunately, but I was planning to after finishing my master. Wanted to visit Oxford, UCL, Cambridge, Wimbledon. I loooooooove so much the british accent. Listening shows on netflix only because of the beautiful accent British have. God save the Queen !

I physically don't have room for a 27" iMac on my desk with a second monitor. I'd love the 21.5" models except they're generally terrible deals for the money compared to the 27 inchers, which I don't get.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT. Ahah hospitals are a real problem here. The wait is insane. But at least, when you don't die in between and finally get healed, you get quality service and you are well treated.... *if* you don't die.

It's not Zimbabwe, but not *that* far .. 😂😂

A lot of people buy 21.5” iMacs still. Why else would Apple keep selling them for well over a decade if they didn’t have a market for it?

I had to check the backorder status of the iMP which confirms my suspicion that whatever the iMac 27" morphs into will be the new iMP. Beats me why the 21.5" is in stock.

My gut feeling is that RDNA 2 is coming on Monday in some form. Better for AMD to let Apple announce RDNA 2 because of more eyes. CC is on standby!!!

RDNA2 is expected to be unveiled in September but Apple has premiered some AMD GPUs before the actual introduction to the PC market (Vega 56 and 64). We'll see.

Here in Italy iMac 21" and iMP have the same status = 22nd June
iMac 27" = 6th July

what if they introduce new iMP and still mantain long expedition time for iMac 27?.... i think that in the last 3 years highest market share was for iMac 27" instead of iMP.....

I hope so! A 5600/5700 would be great, but still disappointing given it is a year old... RDNA2 please!

Right. 27-inch iMac has 6-13 July as express delivery timing and 8-15 July as free delivery. Thus, the 27-inch iMac is out of stock in Apple Stores while the 21.5-inches is in stock. I think they will do as they previously did with MBP, selling the high tier first and only in a second moment the low tier. iMac Pro and iMac 27-inches could be the new same product, discontinuing the iMac Pro.

that could be a possibility. I think if it happens it may be wallet out time again..... i am just hoping they can be purchased immediately, as it would be good timing for me. I am hoping for a 24” iMac that I can max out - this would make me a very happy Apple customer [really don’t like the 27” and have found 24” is the sweet spot for my work].

edit - I expect it will be 27” only also

wasn't there a rumour earlier in the year about a gaming imac coming out? RDNA2 would make sense plus PS5 got announced last week. or perhaps I am just overthinking everything. My sleep is going to be interrupted on Tuesday morning. The curse of being in the southern hemisphere.

Even for me iMP is coming to be 16th-17th July as delivery dates and iMac 27 as 23rd -24th July.

Also i recommend to watch "Snatch", because it's a great movie and because afterwards you either know if you can understand some British or if you would starve outside of london.

Brutal. A worthy watch.

I think...it was around December that this eGamer Mac was being muted via the rumours.

In truth, anything from RDNA1 to RDNA2 will lend a big boost to the iMac's gaming credentials. The mainstream iMac has been waiting a long time for such gpu power...to grace the confines of it's AiO chassis.

RDNA2 would make sense.

However, Apple will say you're only going to get it if you spend £5k on an iMac Pro.

Whereas Sony is going to give it to you in a PS5 for £400-500.

Do I defend this? No. (Though I'm sure others will throw themselves on Apple's marketing to make sense of it...)

To me. The RDNA1 5700 XT is a 'mid' range card that is about to be what it should have been originally. A low end card. Regardless. It will effectively become a 'low end' card respun on a + process. The four stacks of RNDA2 above it will have the 'low, to mid, to high, to uber high' end of RDNA2 covered.

To me, the 5600M is 'nice' but it's a year too late. If it had turned up a year ago, I'd have been more impressed. But it seems Apple is a year late with gpus...and there's nothing high end about them.

I'd rather the respun RDNA1 go into the 23 inch iMac.

...and the 4 stacks of RDNA2 cover the imac 27 inch to iMac Pro.

Sony will bring you the cutting edge RDNA2 for a cutting edge price.

Apple won't be doing the same. In the iMac you'll be getting a year old gpu RDNA1 BTO option that will cost(by itself) the SAME as the PS5 with RDNA2. One of those is the future. And one of those is the past.

You'll have a cutting edge gpu in the iMac Pro for ten times the price. And you'll probably get it after the PS5 ships.

The 24 inch iMac was a worthy machine. The day they canned it for the piddling 21 inch, I just shook my head.

It would make sense. Why have both products when the new iMac essentially eats the 8 core and 10 core iMac Pro's lunch? Effectively slashing their price by half... and raising the price of the iMac Pro entry to get the 14 and 18 core models.

Consolidated?

Chassis. Cooling. Sound/speakers. Same.

Motherboard. CPU. GPU. Ram and SSD spec variable to price. £1750-£5k plus.

It's year old tech'. As we know. And it will come with? *This* year's prices.

I'd drop that into the 23 inch. But i'm not apple.

And postpone the 27 inch for RDNA2. (and yes, I'm gagging for a new iMac.)

There's enough RDNA2 stack to cover an iMac Pro low end and an iMac Pro high end.

It will become clearer real soon.

Recent history vs what we hope for.

It's been a while since Apple surprised me on price for it's Macs.

We can't rule out an RDNA2 announcement...Apple have given AMD all their gpu business. And there is precedent for a gpu announcement even if it ships later.

21 inch iMac? *shrugs. I was surprised it ever made it to the iMac line up instead of the 24 incher.

It is kind of time for me to update my 2011 iMac, but I don't need a new one right now.

I use my iMac mainly for webdevelopment, but I occasionally like to play games (but mostly AAA-titles on Windows, not the casual stuff).

I thought hard about upgrading my iMac to the 2019 one, but it feels to me this was a minor update and also that a redesign is around the corner (expecting 2020, maybe earlier, it happened before).

When a redesign happens, I expect:
  • Smaller bezels (as all new Apple's products have)
  • Improved display (but not expecting XDR display level)
  • SSD by default, starting with 256GB, no more fusion drive
  • T2 chip, or possibly T3
  • FaceID or TouchID
  • 10th generation intel
  • AMD Navi GPU
  • 16GB RAM by default (possibly not upgradeable anymore)
Some people are predicting Apple to switch to ARM processors in 2020. If this would be the case, gaming on Windows would be impossible right as far as I know.

Reading this:

I would expect them to come up with a better price for the new iMac. I feel that we have so many "Pro" Apple products that it doesn't make sense to just push out a $1500+ product. I think they should find a way to be under a $1000. Could you imagine the demand for a newer sleeker looking iMac that looks similar to the iPad Pro running their new processors. I think they could def put it under a $1000.

Anyways,

ZeekTheZack-

im wondering if the redesign is with the 27in, a new 23in and keeping the 21.5 as is and lowering the price as the entry level model

I like the idea of keeping the 21 inch around. But with far more aggressive pricing to get Apple desktops into the hands of buyers, price sensitive consumers and edu' buyers that would need a £599 value busting Mac.

I don't see them keeping the 4k screen on two 21 and 23 inch products. It's not really what Apple does...(obfusication on the iPad range exempted...) ...on the Mac range.

To make the entry 21 inch 'hard drive' and 'HiDef' (1080) iMac more than the piece of junk it is? It has to have an SSD instead of that platter junk eg. 256 gigs SSD and the price slashed to way below £1k.

Accompanied by the more affordable (so the rumour says...) iMac 23 incher 4k-er. £999.

The iMac used to be very affordable. I can't say this was just down to Cook. It used to cost as low as £675 (Alu) and £595 (Fruit)

It wasn't just the flagship of design...but the flagship of design for all. 'The rest of us.' And it was only the spec that varied taking it as high as £1450 (something like that.)
