Excuse me,

I won't be excusing Apple. They learned nothing from 'bend gate' on the iPhone?

The good news for Dave and other potential iPad customers such as Freida...and myself...

It seems 'hope' (as always with Apple products...) is on the horizon.

Maybe this one will actually have 'reinforcement' in the chassis...it seems Apple forgot to put any in the 12.9 incher for the last two iterations. (The 11 inch iPad Pro doesn't seem to have this problem. Far sturdier from my 'in store' bend tests...)

I hope so. Fall release would be perfect. Just in time to treat myself for xmas :)

Unless of course Azrael will want to be the 'ho ho ho ho' present giver :p

Ps. How depressed are you with the current no hardware rumours? On a scale of water to straight vodka, what are you drinking?

Not depressed at all. Bemused perhaps.

The Mac ARM iMac being on an aggressive schedule for this year is very surprising. But six months from the WWDC annoucement of the transition makes sense. (Didn't the last one begin for the consumer 6 months after?)

The benchmark for the transition is the last one. If anything. Apple will want to do this faster.

Cider and Black. As a chaser...

...for a Pint of Guiness?

The only 'Intel' (and probably last(!) Intel based Mac...) to be updated is the iMac.

So a new model must be imminent.

An ARM iMac is not going to be shipping for 6 months. Apple needs to sell 27 inch inTeL iMacs in the mean time.

...and under the 'cloud' of potential 50-100% speed improvements for Mac ARM. (They'll have to be that fast for some emulation for pro apps that will be slow to port...eg. Like Adobe from last time...) So that will Osborne iNtel iMac sales.

At some point you bite the bullet. Apple. The Customer.

You have to announce at some point. You're selling the current for £££. ie. Need to buy nows.

And you're saying we're having even greater products later.

But wasn't this always so?

Except this time, it isn't going to be an incremental and hot running INtel cpu on the horizon...it's a blow the doors of the Intel cpu by Mac ARM.

50-100% doesn't surprise me. At all. If anybody has been paying attention to how an A12x runs in an iPad.

So what about now?

6 months to sell iMacs. Intel ones. Even a 'substantial' iMac update (intel based...) won't save it from teh Mac ARM storm cloud on the horizon.

I don't expect any further updates to Intel. Intel will probably be over inside 1 year. I wouldn't be surprised if it was over in 7 months from the 1st available Mac ARM. Mac Pro included.

I'll watch the WWDC and enjoy it regardless. New Intel iMacs are coming. New iMac designs are coming. Mac ARM iMac is coming.

The nuance of how and when. That's what we pay Apple for. They decide that.

Not the leakers. Not I.

I'm now starting to think that they aren't even going to mention an imac anything today.

Lol the emotional parabola of this thread is amazing.

BTW I have the 2018 Ipad pro 12.9 and it's a beast. It will take something crazy to make me upgrade.

The fall is a traditional iPad release date. Clearly the iPad 'z' was a meh incremental nothing. Stalling for the fall. Remember the iPad 3...with the iPad 4 revision 6 months later? (Yeah...I bought the iPad 3 retina...for the iPad 4 to nuke it 6 months later performance wise...) Ergo. I'd expect the next fall iPad to bury the recent 'update' to the ignominy to which it belongs.

I've got a decent track record on present buying. And in 'car speak' my mileage is excellent in terms of giving. My last statistic was 10,000 miles to 0. In my favour. I guess it was one way traffic...you could say...

Apple is emotional parabola.

Perhaps it was best we didn't care at all?

A14x?

It will bury the A12z. And the A12z is a beast.

The problem I see for what I do mostly in audio production, is not the hardware factor, it is the software and lack of a timely response from the mutitude of developers of audio software and plugins. A huge amount that will never get updated. It's going to be a compatability nightmare for a while. Other a/v industries may have similar issues with the transition. Some will wait, some will dive in and some will bail to windows. What may end up happening in the audio world is having to keep an older mac handy to handle older projects. Kind of a pain, but progress marches on..

I can always trust on Azrael for a good answer <3 I agree though, they need at least one moer substantial intel revision to tie the iMac over in the meantime.

I would type a longer response, but typing on my flexi-iPad is super ****. Sorry for being so lazy. :p

They'll probably have an emulation layer to carry software forward for 3-5 years.

After that, it's down to dev's

It's called progress. (and I say that as someone who was burned for a £1000 adobe suite ala PPC before Apple released Intel cpus...)

And intel's hot, bloated and inefficient dead is ultimately a bottle neck for those very same audio dev's.

My thanks, gusping. :)

We've had all the other INtel updates from Mac Pro, to Macbook to Mac Mini. (If you can call that last Mini update an update...) And only the imac intel remains.

These will all be the last intel revisions. There clearly won't be any more. Anybody who wants 'Intel' level of assurance and reassurance. That's your lot. Time to buy and hold for 3-5 years whilst teh transition plays out.

Far less painful than a trip to the dentist.

Those that can wait for Mac ARM? Congrats. You're about to enjoy 50-100% performance improvements.

The Sword of Damocles awaits.

I wouldn't want to be Intel.

Time is really working good for me betwen my dad visiting and the last of us part two. Barly noticed the last three days. Would be nice if we get a new one today despite the leaks... i don't even know when to wait for if they don't announce it today. I might not even watch the keynote as we are starting a BBQ right now. :D

The Last of Us...part I. Just got that for the PS3. Haven't tried it yet.

Hope you enjoy the visit of your Dad. Perhaps watch the WWDC together? With a nice BBQ hotdog?

27" availability is showing 2-3 weeks

:)

New design for the 27 intel?

No new design for the 21?

New design for the Mac ARM iMac?

When would the Apple Store usually go down for an update/keynote?
Already by now. Several hours before i believe.
Edit: meaning no hardware is likely. I think... or at least not released shortly after WWDC.

I guess the patient died yesterday. Nothing to see here. move along folks... sad...

LOL Ultimately I am playing this stupid game as well as I did list my 2019 27" on ebay and I have 5 people watching the auction. I have a feeling they are waiting for WWDC.

IF there is new hardware to be announced for today which can then be ordered/pre-ordered today - then the Apple online store will go down when WWDC starts...

If it stays up then nothing new or a spec bump here and there...

This is how it's been done in the past?

Just posted a (faux) 27" iMac with 512GB SSD order at Apple.com, 1 hour before start of WWDC, to see what they would show. They will accept today but shipment is from July 22 to July 29, 4-5 weeks. Same time if it was 1TB SSD. If the order was for the same iMac with a 2TB Fusion drive, shipping would be July 8-15 or 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 weeks. So it seems a upgrade is coming, but the supply line needs time to catch up to whatever (minor) changes are announced today.

It's up to you, of course.

But the model you have has the sturdier frame. You have promotion. The apple pencil. And plenty of speed.

If you want a truly transformational upgrade. Wait for the A14x.

If I was after any iPad model right now? Yours is the one I'd go for. (*concerns over 'bendy' 12.9 inch. And that's the size I'd opt for.)

I tried yours in the store (PC WORLD) back when. And it felt sturdy in the hand and the promotion was great. The speed was blistering. Even then.

Azrael.

Sorry in advance for the OT. There is a big difference between the 2017 model (10.5”) and the 2020 one (12.9”). Just like night and day in terms of screen, magic keyboard, design, faceID etc. In other words the first one is “just” a very good tablet the second one is an hybrid between a great tablet and a good laptop (at least for many users).
PS
Absolutely no bending issue.

I see the LG Ultrafine 5K 27” is back ordered at B&H Photo. This makes me think that the unavailability of the 27” iMacs has been about display shortages.
