I feel on my backside, that the coming time of global change promises us great delays and instability.

At the same time, I don’t want to stay on an aging Intel, just having bought a new Mac, and I don’t want to be a beta tester of a new platform, experiencing hardships.😬

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy for fusion sake it happened so that I need a new computer right now

I AM EXACTLY IN THE SAME SITUATION.... my (amazing) MBP 2011 had two times MB problems so the first time thay recognize the problem and change for free... but second one was fatal... so i'm without computer since 1 year waiting and waiting and procrastinating the buy because i was waiting new redesign iMac.... but now the question is:

buy a new redesign latest iMac 27" with latest intel....
or waiting again 6 months and buy the newest arm iMac...

in the first case I don't know if intel iMac will be mantained updated for long time..
in the second one i don't wanna be a beat tester !!

i'm not that kind of person that change a computer every 2 years so... that's a big question for me...

Thankfully my 2018 mini is doing just fine, and probably will for another two years, but... i really want to see a new, completely redesigned iMac.

Come on Apple.... We shall find out for real in a few hours, anyway. In the meantime, I will continue to ‘work’ and listen to some banging tunes to pass the time.

I’d rather buy the last Intel iMac than the first ARM iMac. There is no way they will replicate an 8 or 10 core i7/i9 without flaws, first time round.

I am still on the ‘I hope we see a complete redesign and at the same time I hope I don’t’
only because I love desktops, hardware, and self control is a B sometimes.

Is that the 1st one with pro-motion? Before they introduced the new flexy frame iPad Pro 12.9?Azrael.

I believe the 2017 version was the first one to have the Promotion display. My 12.9" 2017 one has it.

The jump from my 2017 12.9" to the 2020 12.9" would be a big jump, the newer design, the 2nd gen Apple Pencil, the A12 chip (my 2017 has the A10X Fusion), more Ram, the wide colour gamut.

Also the Magic Keyboard is calling my name 😂

If Apple announce the new iMac I will get the iMac first, as I really need to update from my 2012 one. If not I think I'll update my iPad Pro and wait for the iMac.

Bummer if true. Makes sense though. The Mac Pro was announced last wwdc for late 2019 release so a similar timetable makes sense for redesigned/re-architected iMac release. Unibody MacBook pro redesign was also released on 13" late 2008 before the design coming to the rest of the lineup the following year. They seem to like to release for the holidays with cutting edge redesigns (and premiums). Only recent exception I can remember being the retina MacBook 15" which was released at WWDC 2012 and released that summer just weeks later.

At this point in time you'd be lucky (myself included) if either of those options are available in the near future. With all these made up rumors floating around I wouldn't be surprised if there's no redesign at all until an ARM iMac is introduced in 2021. What if all we get before that is an Intel iMac with nothing but a minor spec bump?

This thread spoke products into existence of which serious supply chain leaks have never even existed. Don't set yourselves up for disappointment.

I'd also say some of the posters here have a skewed perception due to personal circumstances. The iMac currently (somewhat) available probably serves 85% of it's regular customer base just fine. Don't get me wrong, I'm not satisfied with it either, but people like us are the vocal minority and Apples reputation as a desktop manufacturer is not at stake just because a handful of power users aren't happy with the bezel size of their current offering lol

I ordered an iMac in late 2019 that was delivered early 2020. It was configured for "growth," with ample RAM and SSD drive space. Am very pleased with its function, and happy using it many hours a day. I purchased it when I needed to use it, even though iMac redesign rumors were rampant during the time I placed my order.

The upcoming redesigned iMac will probably be great. However, I couldn't wait for it to arrive, and have accomplished much work on my new "old design" machine.

I need a computer bad. If the iMac does not update today and it is more towards the end of the year .. I think im going to just build my own pc and be done with it.

I very much doubt the iMac will be updated/announced at WWDC today. The amount of leakers that have said that there will now be no hardware at WWDC, just confirms it. It seems Apple have decided at the last minute to remove any hardware announcements that they had.

Its crazy to think that these products are ready to be announced and Apple just wakes up and decides to not show/announce anything.
So, it could be due to time as they feel the keynote is already too long OR they just don't want to mix ARM announcement with Intel products. Either way, its messed up.

We will know super soon. :)

I hope for announcement of RDNA2 coming in september to iMacs. That would at least give us a timeline which we would all appreciate.

So am I right in saying the most consistent leaks right now are indicating that yes, a 24" redesign will come late this year or early next year; but also no, there won't be any hardware shown at WWDC?

If so, that's a weird combo. Even if it doesn't ship until Q4 20+, you'd think they'd still unveil the redesign now. If they're willing to show off the Mac Pro redesign at WWDC, why on earth would they not give the iMac the same treatment?

Whatever... Guess we'll find out in a few hours anyway.

I wouldn't mind if they don't announce anything, but just released it on the store. But talk about a wave. Big wave of anticipation and excitement, and then a huge let down, well maybe,

It's up to you, of course.

But the model you have has the sturdier frame. You have promotion. The apple pencil. And plenty of speed.

If you want a truly transformational upgrade. Wait for the A14x.

If I was after any iPad model right now? Yours is the one I'd go for. (*concerns over 'bendy' 12.9 inch. And that's the size I'd opt for.)

I tried yours in the store (PC WORLD) back when. And it felt sturdy in the hand and the promotion was great. The speed was blistering. Even then.

Because those were different categories.
Mac Pro was so neglected that they even invited pros to tell them that they are working on new modular Mac Pro. Then WWDC was perfect platform to show it with shipping in December.
They won't do the same with iMac - it would simply kill a lot of sales.
What they could do though is to show the new iMac today and say that it will ship next month. Maybe stretch it to 2 but not more than that. Q4 is just too far away and there is no way Apple would do that for a product like iMac UNLESS they make an exception because the 24" iMac will indeed be ARM one. That is the only scenario I can see for them to talk about iMac so far ahead.
Otherwise no, Intel iMac won't get announced so far.
iMac Pro will/could be but thats a different category and has different rules. :)

I'm with Azrael on that! I wouldn't buy the bendy iPad Pro now especially if you have 2017 model.
I can go as far as to say that you don't need new model because 2017 is plenty fast and what you are doing is probably lusting over a new toy.
Don't fall for that - the recent miniscule update was a joke and the next one will be the one we all waiting for.
I hope they will address the fragile frame also as that is what was deterring me from getting one.

2017 is awesome iPad so just wait, you will be glad you did.

At this point, and maybe intentional, they have succeeded in portraying the notion that anything goes.

If I am no wrong, usually Apple closes its Apple Store Online a few hours before the WWDC when they have new hardware to launch.
It is still open...
Yeah that might cinch it unfortunately.

Yes that is true! It looks like the leakers were right, there will be no hardware at this years WWDC.

Nothing sums up Apple's handling of the desktop market than the 6 year Mac Pro debacle...from replacing the legendary Baus Haus G5 (AFFORDABLE) Tower with a 'iCan' to the 'joke' entry specs for an out of touch £6k to the iStale iMac left to rot with 8 gigs of ram and a For Fusion Sake drive.

A disgrace.

I hope for announcement of RDNA2 coming in september to iMacs. That would at least give us a timeline which we would all appreciate.

Unfortunately, Apple beats to the sound of their own drum. We should have had an RDNA1 BTO bump to the iMac last year. (It's old gpu tech' right now. It's been out a year.) They added a 'nice' BTO 5600M to the Macbook Pro. (For the eye watering £800...*makes an incredulous look.*) But I don't think it occured to them to do that for the desktop market.

I think part of this is cpu politics.

If Apple leave the Intel desktop Macs to 'rot' they can unveil their Mac ARM A14x cpu/gpu and claim it buries the Intel cpu and the iMac gpu. Which, of course, it will. Only more so, because Apple will compare it to the 'old' current tech'.

This is the company that will compare their latest tech' with something that didn't get updated for 4 or 6 years. *look how big the improvement is...*

That's marketing for you. And with a straight face.

Azrael.

Excuse me, Azrael. I, for one, LOVE my bendy 2018 iPad Pro. :)
You ceheky monkey!
Ps. How depressed are you with the current no hardware rumours? On a scale of water to straight vodka, what are you drinking?

It always is an afterthought. From a marketing perspective it is understandable to go where the money is, but from a pr perspective it seems kinda bleh...
