So we wait this long for a spec bump? Hahahahaha.

Why wouldn’t they just spec bump with the MacBook Pros then?
we waited this long, for an Intel based imac spec bump, and an AS redesign imac.
But, i guess the bigger one will get the redesign AS next year....this year we will get the intel ones, and 24" AS imac

Truncated version of what I wrote: legitimate sources do hide behind anonymity, and always have.

Credible, anonymous leaking has been a part of business and democracy since these institutions were born.

It’s not that they don’t exist, it’s whether or not they’re credible. That’s what I question.

Anonymous, legitimate or otherwise, you gain credibility based on accuracy and history. Some of these leakers have history, while others are just coming out of the woodworks.

This site tracks leakers:

Well it makes less than zero sense to release an Intel iMac refresh in July on the current Intel Style design and then release the exact same specs in an Apple Silicon Style design in November.

I could possibly see a reason to launch another Intel Mac refresh in Late 2021 at the top-end (i9 iMac, i9 MacBook Pro, iMac Pro and Mac Pro) if Apple Silicon is not yet ready to play in that arena and using the new Apple Silicon designs would not be unreasonable - assuming they can handle the thermals.

I just hope the 24” isn’t too light on the graphics spec. I couldn’t justify the current 27” and certainly not anything bigger. But 24” sounds a solid upgrade from my mid 2011 21”.

I just need enough for Lightroom editing of RAW files and my 2017-ish 13” MBP isn’t up to it.

We've milked it for 12 years. Now we're going to milk it one last time...right before something more compelling gets released.

Azrael.

We know Apple’s playbook by now. You know they’ll throw in some feature compelling enough to entice those who can’t wait any longer to buy an iMac.

It really could be as simple as offering it in Space Grey. Or maybe they drop in FaceID. Regardless, I suspect it’ll be tricked out to the max (as max as Intel can offer). They’ll have to sell this with a straight face knowing they’re still peddling a decade old design.

I'd really hope they give the normal imac the imac pro cooling. That would be a huge long overdue design change.

This is going to be the last hurrah for the normal iMac in its current design form, so I highly doubt it. They will instead use custom (down clocked) Intel CPUs to meet the current, awful, thermal design.

This is very bad news if the redesign is not available for the 10th gen i9. My current i9 iMac is pretty bad with the very poor cooling. I hope the iMac Pro gets updated so I can get that instead. Otherwise I will get the Mac Pro.

LMAO!!! Same iteration of design for the consecutive 6th time or so. Totally ridiculous. Not that I would buy an intel imac even if they updated the design, just before apple releases the superior AS models. I prefer to hold off to the arm imacs, they will be miles better than the ancient intel based computers.

I don't mind if they used the same design if the cooling was decent enough. I seriously regret getting the i9 iMac due to how loud and hot this thing gets. It is ridiculous they will not upgrade at least the cooling for a much higher TDP 10th gen i9.

It's quite weird that now people are listening to leakers that have like 1000 followers and not really good track record. If someone says "New intel iMac *could* be released this week" it's not a leaker, it's just a guesser.

I understand that people are frustrated about the iMac, which became just another product that is forgotten by Apple for many years, because it is not making that main profit.

If Apple was Porsche, they would still produce a 996/997, because Cayenne is making several times more money. But it doesn't work like that if the company is really smart. Every product that makes the product-line complete is important and the heritage and enthusiastic customer base is as important as profits.

The funny thing is that people don't expect miracles, they just want to have an up-to-date computer every year and a redesign (evolution) every few years. Computers are not cars, they doesn't need years to be developed, yet Apple is pretending they need such a long time to produce something.
I also blame all these news sites, including this one. Many previously serious channels have turned into gossip sites publishing rumors from any unreliable source like it's facts.

I doubt we will get next week. If we do then its spec bump and its crap. Tim was excited and even if that means so little because he is always excited I doubt this is happening. Sep/Oct so where its at with unified design language.
I doubt they will have AS new design and Intel old design next to year other especially if things like iMac Pro will get updated too (later). No new design = no buy. Its 2020 and I am not financially supporting Apple with outdated old design, Fusion and underwhelming specs. Give us redesign and decent specs or you won't see my money. Simple as that

Two interesting articles:

"The second test run, with the iPad already warm from the first one, achieved just 87fps. Letting the device cool down before running the third iteration resulted in an even better score of 123fps."

Apple ain’t the most charitable company but really not sure how saving significant redesign for a chipset with new specs and requirements is a money grab. It was wishful thinking to begin with to expect an intel refresh to come with a redesign. A product simply cannot be designed to accommodate two different specs if the specs are very different, unless you want a crap user experience.

It never occurred to me that the redesign was also tied to ’no more fusion drive’. Wow, I know apple can be out of touch but if they release an iMac in 2020 with a fusion drive, base level or not, I’m going to have a good laugh.

I think there is a good chance that we will loose the iMac Pro and use it's internal design for the new 27 Inch iMac.
MacPro fills many of the iMac Pro needs.
iMac Pro almost got overtaken by a speed out, cheaper, 27 inch iMac 2019 already.

So the iMac Pro Design, formerly used to bridge between MacPros, now gets to bridge between whateverthe****ishappeningnext.

Yes, technically the iMac and iMac Pro have the same exterior design. The design is already made for the iMac Pro. PLEASE, I hope the new iMacs use this updated design as a last Intel design. The 10th gen i9 absolutely needs proper cooling.

Why wouldn’t they though? They’re saving the redesign for the superior arm iMacs in a short period after the new Intel models are released. Why introduce the redesign with the underwhelming intel models and damage the hype for the more improved in every way AS iMacs and especially when Apple will stop producing intel iMacs in the near future.

I just dont see the point of a redesigned intel iMac When clearly Apple wants to push the hype for the AS iMacs.

I think you're right. The iMac Pro was created because the Mac Pro was being neglected. Now that there's a new Mac Pro, there's less need for the iMac Pro.

What we may see is the iMac being rebranded as the "iMac Pro" with a new design and Apple Silicon.

Well one would ask, what is so exciting about these? A minor spec bump doesn't quite rise to that level. Not even a new fan and T2 would.

Apple is good enough at selling to know that „we will unterwell the forum dwellers“ is not what is selling 1500 - 5000€ machines.

Remember the recent rumor that imac pro would get the micro led screen end of this year-ish... I think they may still have some use for it.

If I could have purchased mi IMP exactly as it is but with a non xeon 10 core and regular ram, I would have. But at the time I wanted the 10 core and the quiet case for audio production. I get the idea of super display for professionals, but the xeon and ecc is overkill for 99% of us I think. We'll see. I tghinbk someone earleir todya aboe v siad "we have no idea what they are doing", which is starting to seem the case.
