A friend just bought a 21.5" last week. Does anyone know if Apple offers any price adjustments if the configuration they bought is now cheaper? I assume they do not?

Apple has a 15-day return window so if they don't want to price-adjust, return and re-buy at the lower price.

I dont know if its safe...if under load will be hot, will affect the internals...the safest bet is the AS i think based on the mac mini dev kit vs intel one

i bet is the last 27" intel imac.. no wonder there is no 21.5" intel imac since all the 10th gen intel and dgpu for the 21.5" are on the market
Safe as in compatibility with software. Yes it will be hot.

So no redesign does not surprise me, as it would make sense to leave that for a major announcement.

With the T2 chip, will my external Windows bootable SSD still work? will it require a rebuild or will it not work at all?

Is the nano-texture glass worth it if the computer's display is not in direct sunlight?

if you run 32 bit then its not safe...the rest should work fine under rosetta 2 at least on mac mini everything runs fine

The real question for those purchasing one - Magic Mouse or trackpad? I have the upmost respect for those that can use the Magic Mouse. It possibly the worst peripheral I have ever used (trackpad isn't much better imo).
I have to agree about the mouse. I do Prefer the trackpad to a mouse for everyday use and browsing.

Those 21.5" iMacs are going to fly off the shelves. 1499 for an 8th gen i5 😂.

I think this makes a 24" ARM this year much more likely.

Cleaned up my Twitter following from anything Apple related. This is going to be blissful times.

i am debating picking up 325€ (We got a +20% thing going on in a supermarket right now) worth of Apple money tomorrow to buy final cut and motion 5. But I have a hard time imagining letting Lightroom go... so maybe I still need to get the 99€ photo suit per year. Mmmmh... this iMac being a lot cheaper due to dropping the fusion drive opens some options.
already got all the affinity programs when they were on sale, with final cut I should be set... just Lightroom, mmmmh.

also considering a t5 by Samsung to externals edit my video so I can Cary the projects Werbeverbot I want. Mmmmh...

So the thread continues because let’s not forget the title:

“Will a redesigned iMac arrive in 2020”

Looking forward to Q4 2020 / Q1 2021 still

Yes.

Today's announcements are a clear path that the 21" is EOL, and the 24" AS "soon" will be its replacement. The larger iMac redesign with AS certainly a year away.

All right folks, now that we're all done here with the iMac saga, I'm going to park myself in the "Will there be an updated AppleTV in 2020?" thread. 😂

If you want to future proof you go for 2TB SSD i feel.
I constantly got my 1TB full, especially with Photo and Video obviously. But still. I was thinking a bit about the games i want to reinstall... 50gb Starcraft 2, Planet coaster and Planet zoo also a lot each, i think anno 1800 also was sitting at over 40gb, x com 2 i never played due to the old computer being to old. Sims 4 is massive by now. Super easy to fill up the first 500gb without even having time to actually play all these games.
Seeing you mention Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo makes me think of an important question. I want (- when I have a capable machine) to play these. Will they be playable on AS via Steam? If not, I might have to get this intel iMac...

You’re hopefully right about the 24”, but let’s not forget that Apple is selling 8th gen i5 MBPs for a similar amount and by many accounts they don’t perform much worse than the new 10th gen models...

The biggest surprise to me today was that Apple the nano-whatever screen option.

The second biggest surprise to me today was not that it got the option of 10 GigE, but that it got that option for only $100. I had been predicting that when Apple launched 10 GigE support, if it was a paid upgrade, it would be $200. However, I was expecting that more with the new chassis, not the existing one.

Asides the silent update on 21.5 (no more fusion drive) apple also updated the iMac Pro to 10 cores base config instead of 8 cores.

There were only two real reasons that I would still choose an imp over this one for my workflow. The quiet fan withg better cooling and the dual TB3 lanes w/ 4 plugs. I need that for my multi TB3 drive and TB3 audio interface setup. Aside from that, now with the 10 cores, it's a no brainer, unless it sounds like a jet.

The death of the Fusion drive has been a long time coming. Finally! However, to be truthful, I was thinking they'd keep it one more iteration, until the new chassis dropped.

As for 10-core, it was already leaked months ago. We even knew the name, which is Core i9-10910, despite the fact it doesn't officially exist on Intel's publicly accessible web pages.

Under load, the 8-core i9 iMac already sounds like a jet according to reviews. Hell, even my 4-core i7-7700K behaved that way. You can be 100% sure the 10-core will behave that way too, if not worse.
