Well . . . underwhelmed across the board is an understatement. Pretty much nothing to see here folks. The wait is still on. This pretty much extends the redesign time frame well into '21 I would think.

For 27 inch yes.
For 21,5 (24) no update today actually frees up the possibility of a early ARM model with redesign.

Geezzz.. finally!!! Now, the big question is with all ssd drive, I wonder if the cooling solution has been improved?

Non sense.

16 GB VRAM.

8 GB system RAM default.

Basic in computer science : System Memory MUST be 2:1 ratio with GPU VRAM.

Yeah. Apple's RAM prices are nonsense. I'll be buying the 32 gigs of system ram from Crucial or from Amazon.

Azrael.

Doubt it. They'll just run the top spec slower. Whilst charging full whack for it.

Thats whats holding me back from purchasing top line IMac right now. I think im gonna wait until i start to see some reports. Maybe wait until the ARM redesign announcement and make my decision then.

At least 2:1.

So if I order two sticks of 16 gigs to go with the 8 gigs of Apple System memory, I'll be over the ratio and home free?

For some of the 3d scenes I'll be doing, I want the 16 gig gpu card...plenty of room to breath.

As will the 40gigs of RAM.

If you can wait. Wait.

I can't. My iMac is dead.

You'll be fine.
I don't know if it's 2x4 GB DDR4 or 1x8 GB.

If 1x8 GB, you could order 1x8 GB Crucial + 2x16 GB Crucial. It will have the same frequency and hopefully the same timings. So it will match dual channel.

It's just because the information on GPU must also be allocated in system RAM. The information lives on system RAM, copied over PCi-Express bus to GPU VRAM (malloc), then copied to GPU registers, back in VRAM, back in system RAM and then you can see the result.

So I ordered the 2019 IMAC a week ago and thankfully they automatically switched it for me for the 2020. I was just wondering since I got the base RAM 8GB which is the best RAM to go with? I was originally thinking of going with OWC but I see that you guys reccomend Crucial. What really is the difference between Crucial and OWC ?

Crucial uses Micron memory. Most reliable RAM chips. Kingston is also top notch, uses Hynix RAM modules if I remember well.

But Micron is US. Hynix is Korean. I prefer Micron.

OWC charges too much. Last time I checked it was pricier than Crucial/Kingston.

Well done. Looks like the one I'll be ordering.

This is a worthy last Intel iMac. (It took it's time getting there.)

You'll do well with that.

And yes. The memory. Elsewhere.

Azrael.

Just ordered

Standard glass
3.6GHz 10-core 10th-generation Intel Core i9 processor, Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz

Somebody explain why I should have 10 gig Ethernet over the standard. Is that for cabled speed computer to computer over a network?

I do intend having other computers further down the line.

Azrael.

Decent spec. That'll do the job alright, Guv'nor.

It's future proof. Soon home networking will be on 10gbps as WAN speed increases beyond 1gbps.

The only thing I can think of re: networking is the Wireless printer and scanner from HP.

It takes a while to send over the 300-600dpi scan over the wireless connection.

I'm excited, got like $400 off through apple edu and free airpods. This 16Gb 5700xt better be worth it! We'll find out on the 19th hopefully!
