Yes. Crucial memory is best seriously. Take a 2x16 GB, you'll have 40 GB total. Plenty of memory to play with.

Cheers, pldelisle,

I'll take your advice. 40 gigs sounds about right for me.

I also can't wait for the AS Mac mini! I just hope it keeps the high-end SoC from the AS iMac.

Mine eyes hath seen the glory to come...

lazy spec bump. I really didn't expect anything more though to be honest. One day I'd like to be pleasantly surprised by Apple again. Maybe one day..
I thought the iPhone 12 Pro could be that opportunity, but with all the rumours about smaller batteries, no 120hz display, etc. I am not sure...

Jesus....i wonder whats is best for cooling
i7 8 cores 3.8 ghz base clock
or
i9 more cores but at 3.6 ghz base clock

Actually , it's just beginning.

Truly...this is.

I'll take this one for the team.

That AS iMac will come extra quick for you AS believers (of which I count myself as one...)

What speed of memory should I be looking for to upgrade this on my own vs. paying the extreme over-charge for Apple memory upgrades?

Crucial 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 SODIMM Memory for Mac

I think.

Take a look here.

Now that Intel has added i9-10850K to its list, we have seen leaked benchmarks and Jon Prosser says Aug I bet on next Tuseday 4th Aug. That's also the date online stores here in Sweden state as next delivery date for current iMacs. It's also the week after antitrust hearings this Wednesday. A good way to start the week after. :)

Am I the greatest leaker or what? I even pinpointed the date. I should start a Twitter account. ;)

I think we both know the answer to that.

I've had the same conflict myself.

I've going for the 10 core option.

They'll probably down volt/clock both. (I think they did with the 8 core in the 2019...)

So if you want Cinebench rendering? Go for the ten core.

8 cores for the £2329 and the 5500XT with 500gig SSD is a very good spec for that price.

It's a £2700 price cut from the iMac Pro base config and performs about the same.

On the spec sheets of the i7 and i9 CPUs only, they both support DDR4-2933. That's not to say the iMac mainboard will also support it, but worth investigating to see if a self upgrade can including faster memory along with increased capacity.

Yes it can but make sure you do it within the 1st year. Not a day later as they won't allow you after. (trust me, I worked for Apple when I was a student) :)

A little tip - if you have a friend who studies, maybe buy it through him/her as you will save tons of money on the machine + some unis have nice big discount on apple care when bought together with the computer.

If you don't have a uni friend then you need new friends :D :D :D

...Apple care.

Can that be order upto a year later? Before the warranty expires?

Think it can?

Nice one, Dr.

I hope you get the machine you wish for.

i dont look for the best spec for its price...but for thermals....i need this imac to work almost non stop under heavy load...i dont need to reach 95-100C like my old 295X did or the 2019
To select i5 i must go with Radeon Pro 5300...and that can be a big gap between 5300 and the 5500

And when i think next year we will have this imac on 14nm and the Apple Silicon imac under 7nm or 5nm probably..

Now 300 more pages of "Should I wait for AS IMac and when is it coming?". 😄
BTW I really hope Apple has changed the cooling or that i9 and 5700XT will either cook the iMac or really underperform.

I'd like to brag a little here - I predicted this exact timing of iMac release, and no redesign, being so confident, I even said "I have spoken!" - more importantly, I have provided valid reasoning, not just pointless speculation:

(1)A lame Intel iMac is coming out very soon - early August, maybe even next week

Oh, and like I argued from day one - THERE WILL BE NO RE-DESIGN OF THE INTEL iMAC!!!

I have spoken!

based on my i9 experience I doubt I would ever touch one again, mine sounds like a jet at times

fokmik,

I think, if I'm being truly honest, the sweet spot is the 8 core with 5500xt.

It's a decent price for a 5k display, 8 cores and a 5500XT...with 512 gig SSD.

It's the other spec I'm contemplating before I pull the trigger.

Still leaning towards the 10 core, 5700XT and 1 TB SSD.

And that costs an extra £1100. But it comes with extra heat. Is the 'performance' worth the extra £1100?

That's an iPad 12.9 14x in October...?
