I could buy 4x8 gig sticks from Crucial for £140?

And just order the stock 8 gigger?

Azrael.
Yup. I would wait for confirmation, but I am 99% certain it is the exact same RAM type as the 2019 27in iMac. Go for 2x16GB, so you can leave the 2x4GB RAM in, and have 40GB.

2TB
Non upgradable thx to t2

he did not even do the video xD
I know, I just can't STAND him, and avoid his channel like the plague :p I am very fussy with YTers. Must are incredibly annoying.

I think it fits some uses well, e.g. some creative avenues. I will never be without my MX Master mouse!

My work is a mix of creative and coding. Magic Trackpad is bar none the best input device I've ever used. A mouse can't even come close (used the same MX Master for years).

The man knows how to clickbait well. I just click on his videos and within a few seconds usually just close it.

I understand for creative, but what features/gestures of the trackpad do you use for coding?

Have you had time to compose yourself, Azrael?

Feeling better now, thankyou, gusping.

It's not the redesign we were all hoping for.

I know you, Freida, myself and many others were hoping beyond hope for that oil tanker bezel to vanish along with the FFSake drive. And darn, no RDNA2 BTO. (But Apple don't want to give this to compare to AS iMacs later...they'll compare their upto date Apple GPUs with the year old ones in this iMac ala Intel. So it goes.)

The way I view this?

With Bootcamp. I cut the price of the £3k iMac in two. That's a £1500 PC. And a £1500 Mac.
The 5700XT is much better than the 580. The down side we're on the cusp of true great gpu in the RDNA2.
The 10 core in a consumer iMac is great. But it will cook under duress.
100% compatibility. For Intel programs. But? It's a legacy intel. I'll take a bath on the amortization.
8 gigs of memory. There is no positivity about that. ;)

I count the positives along with the negatives. And I'm buying.

...and whenever you sit down with any corporation...make sure you use long, silver spoons.

Because they will spoon you on memory BTO.

So, the middle iMac model 1TB SSD Upgrade comes in at CHF2469
Mac Mini i5 1TB 8GB - CHF1259

How much for a webcam comparable to the 1080p one in the new iMac?

The iMac has a clearly better GPU but otherwise performance will be similar, correct?
Will be CHF1000 of a difference, I'm thinking better to save that and maybe get an AS iMac in a couple of years but I'm unsure, I do like the all-in-one nature of the iMac but I'm unsure.

I - and I suspect many others in this thread now have a bit of a dilemma. My MBP 2011 is only just keeping up and I’ve decided that I want a desktop to replace it. I’d expected a non-event of a refresh and was going to hold out for the 24” AS iMac or the Mac Mini with monitor. But today’s refresh is giving me pause for thought, especially as it seems it might be 2021 before either of the devices I want are available.

...Apple care.

Can that be order upto a year later? Before the warranty expires?

Think it can?

I am so happy this is over. So happy!

Nice one, Dr.

I hope you get the machine you wish for.

Glad you're happy, man! Currently stuck between 1TB and 2TB at the moment as well. Happy though as I need the computer ASAP and I will dive into AS in the next few years :)

Agreed. It is a joke. I know which I'd rather have. Hint: I am a Mac mini owner ;)

Yep. I went ahead and bought a 49" monitor. I'm out on the iMac, waiting for the ARM mac mini.

When will modern-day nerds understand that some people just don't care about gaming, mechanical keyboards, RGB lighting, and twitch streaming? Some people use computers for a different reason, and you guys are just not the target demographic. I just don't care about video games, and if I sometimes play anything, it's on a console. Apple caters more to these demographics and is basically not in the videogame market at all.

Apple should really bring back the mac vs pc ads.

Actually, I am exactly the target demographic. I've been using a 2012 iMac daily for 8 years, and been waiting for a refresh for 4 years. I don't really PC game much, I was just using it to prove a point. Mac Mini + Monitor is such a huge value in comparison to the iMac. The single biggest advantage the iMac had was discrete video cards, but with the move to ARM, that advantage is going to be gone too. I just don't get the argument for the iMac anymore.

Well . . . underwhelmed across the board is an understatement. Pretty much nothing to see here folks. The wait is still on. This pretty much extends the redesign time frame well into '21 I would think.

I understand for creative, but what features/gestures of the trackpad do you use for coding?

It's the overall experience. I rely heavily on gestures which are far simpler to execute and much smoother with a trackpad. I typically work between 3-5 virtual desktops. I find that the trackpad is more precise than a mouse once adapted, so I (sacrilege -I know) often move around within my code by trackpad rather than keyboard.

That last bit is assisted by the fact that while I'm right handed, I can use a trackpad perfectly fine with my left-hand, which both solved a bit of carpal-tunnel I had developing, and allows me to keep my preferred, right hand on the keyboard while being able to work efficiently with the left on the trackpad, improving my productivity greatly. It also allows me to have a full-width keyboard with a number pad, while keeping my keyboard centered, rather than pushing my mouse way off to the right.
