I wouldn't read too much into it, the retailer in question (JB Hifi) does 10% off stock configuration macs fairly regularly. In the past it has been "impossible" to get an iMac with their discount though due to all the stock configurations having fusion drives.. gross.
Finally got the thing set up.. migration assistant took a while.
Initial impressions are that the colours on the screen are noticeably more... contrasty... than the 2014 5k. That and its a lot of CPU bars in my iStat menus
Apple have done some work on that 5k screen over the years. Contrast etc.

Question: So, (please don't scold me to hard), I did in fact buy 32GB of RAM from apple. I assumed they'd give me 4 8GB sticks, but looks like they gave me two 16GB sticks, leaving two slots free. is it now possible for me to buy after market ram and add it to those two slots?
Yes. Just check that you put them in in the right order, else you loose clock speed on the ram.

Looks like my timings were based on general Apple approximations (two weeks, one week), the moment Apple raised a UPS slot and the label got printed it became real based on logistics - two days to ship from Ireland to UK. Arrives tomorrow. I've now ordered RAM from Amazon, which now also arrives tomorrow.
Excited, but also relieved as I've been holding back on a few video projects which has ended up being longer than expected - so looking forward to editing on a decent screen again, quick render previews, etc. It's gonna be bliss!

I am completely forgetting that my iMac will probably come from Ireland too! Just need that "Processing..." to go a little faster...

With that wallpaper it looks like a piece of art...I saw my old iMac from 2009 today in my colleagues office (she uses it in target display mode) and I thought - that iMac is still beautiful. Congratulations all. I am trying to be resilient and wait for the 24 inch, but it is difficult.Yes!

It still looks pretty enough.
If anyone has a working Mac. They can still wait it out for the iMac 24 AS and see for themselves what they want to do.
Unless the first AS iMac is 27+ sized, I'd have to discount it somewhat. I'm just used to be bigger monitor size now.
But I'm sure it will be a thing of beauty and it will perform very well.

But yes. We saw the tear down and yes. Still 'that' fan.
But, according to anthony13 and others...maybe Apple, Intel and AMD have taken offer more 'efficiency' style measures to offer more perf overall but slightly downclocking to avoid heat.
