I want to refrain from letting this discussion get out of hand as that is counterintuitive to the point of the thread - but I will reiterate my concerns with the way you and the others were treating Moonjumper yet again.

You don't need to be awful to someone to argue your point.
Your opinion on the matter IS relevant - that is, you are allowed to speak your mind BUT in the interest of civility, we SHOULD attempt to discuss matters like this rationally and not to mock them in a public forum. Moonjumper was not saying anything remotely offensive, they were just casually throwing in an idea.
If you read my post then you can see my personal thoughts, how I thought it was unlikely and that I don't think it's to Apples current design philosophy - however I do like the idea of height adjustment, after all, the XDR display has it. I was trying to be constructive and to critique without bringing them down. What all of you were doing was bullying someone into being quiet. Don't argue in bad faith as to what you were trying to achieve there, it's obvious you all were attempting to shut them up by belittling them and their opinions. By the way, bullying is against forum rules so maybe you should lighten up.

It's funny that you bring up Trump in this discussion by the way. I hope you realise that it's you and your friends who are Trump in this scenario right? Trumps the bully, and attacks people for arbitrary reasons, much like you guys were doing. I mean honestly, who do you think you are in this scenario?

With all due respect, this isn't a reality tv show. We don't need bad guys. We don't need drama. We need constructive and positive voices and we need to do better as a community. You are allowed to be blunt but don't get upset when someone else calls you out for your callousness. Don't spin this as some inherent need to be Simon Cowell, as if he isn't the most unbearable person on Earth, but if that's who you want to be then sure, just don't get into a hissy fit when someone challenges the way you talk to people.

Anyway, to end this, I'm just gonna grab a quote from old mate fireguy286,
"See something you don't like? I do all day every day, and simply scroll on."

I mean I'll just ignore the hypocrisy of none of you scrolling past something you didn't like, lmao, but yeah maybe y'all should've just scrolled past it if you didn't like it. Don't get it twisted though, that's not my philosphy, I just don't like bullies and won't hesitate to stand up against one.

This is a good post. I'm relatively new here and have found people to be very friendly and helpful, so was taken aback by the way one poster got jumped on.

I'm no fan of the design in the pictures shared, but I don't feel the need to insult the person making the post.

And for those who talk about "taste" and then mention Apple's design ethos: Apple is the company that brought us the ugly-as-sin battery cases for iPhones and a mouse that you can only charge when it's turned upside down. :D

Ha, yeah, they're not well liked by our lot. I have an absolute ****-ton of them as nobody wants them. Really should throw them on eBay.

I am not really sure about the new keyboard yet. I guess its working out quiet nice as I type this. I just enjoy my old one with the extra travel and a bit more of an angel.
Absolut mega fan of the trackpad right away. Just get a proper cable mouse and buy the iMac with trackpad instead. It's brilliant.

Congrats. I guarantee you that a month from now you will think the 21.5 inch screen was way too small :).

What do you like about the trackpad? I've always been a mouse user and I don't use a macbook, so the trackpads have always felt a little unnatural to me. I'm probably going to pull th trigger on the new iMac soon and figured I would get another mouse. I admit the magic mouse is not exactly my favorite accesory though.

I've read his whole post and if you really want my opinion on the matter - I got the impression that he has no taste. That is why I reacted the way I did.
Thank you for those who defended me, I just wanted to make one final point. I did find the responses objectionable, and thought the were very wrong as they had misunderstood my post.

I have previously used example pictures with an aesthetic similar to Apple and people went on about the looks, not the features I was saying might be interesting. So I deliberately used images that had a very different aesthetic hoping the discussion might be about the features, but the response was about me having no taste when I wasn't showing an aesthetic to my taste.

p.s. Simon Cowell is a dick. Rudeness is not constructive.

I am a MacBook user since 2008. Theres just a ton of gestures that come natural to me. It works very nice with final cut.
I have not used the Magic Mouse of my 2012 iMac 98% of the time I owned it. I remember liking the gestures, but it's not as much as you have with a trackpad, and whenever I did something were I needed the functionality of a normal mouse it was lacking there to. It just seems like it's stuck in the middle of trying to do everything wich leads to it actually doing very little.

I don't know about the screen size yet. I feel like there is so much out of my field of vision. Maybe I am just to close to the iMac. I dunno... it feels unnatural. I cannot fathom people actually and seriously asking for something even bigger.

Size problems, Dr? :D. (Just how close are you to that screen? Push it back a bit...I've just now pushed mine back a bit...the left and right edges were a bit 'peripheral...' Or fuzzy. If you're coming from a 21 inch it's going to seem weird for a while. But you'll get used to it...eg. Have you tried opening Final Cut Pro yet?)

Tell me about the power. IS it FASTER!?

Done any video benches?

Internet is just as slow as on the old one. xD Mostly downloading software and updates at this point. Just finished the MacOs Update. Now waiting on bootcamp tools to be sucked from cyberspace.
I´ll not do any benchmarks. More interested how it actually works for what I want to do than how much the fan noise speeds up if you run 17 benchmarks in a row. :D

64GB RAM installed btw.

I'm struggling a little with the decision over whether to go for the stock mid tier, stock upper tier or either of the two with the 1 tb SSD. I'm leaning toward the top tier with 1 TB SSD, but wondering if perhaps I should buy slightly down this time given the possible reduced support life and/or desire to upgrade to AS sooner than I would typically change computers.

I'm coming from a late 2015 i7 with SSD that my wife will get. Use is typical day-to-day stuff plus Garageband/Logic (mostly audio recording), various music programs that aren't too resource intensive, light video editing and hobby photo editing/Lightroom etc. w/Raw files.

Thoughts?

I'm interested in how much faster it is for *your* workflow.

Synthetic benchmarks are pretty 'meh' to me. 64 gigs RAM. Nice and plenty.

Let 'us' know specs of your old rig and time (roughly) it took to do your old workflow things how much the new specs of iMac 2020 have sped things up.

Find different workflows and what people are going with their rigs interesting. You always learn new stuff.

The sweet spot is the Top Tier 3 for £2300. It's a bargain. 8 core. 5500XT. BTO to the 1TB SSD.

Amen.

For your use case? It will blow away your workload. Easy.

Haha. I don't think I have ever heard someone (particularly around here) use the term "bargain" when referring to an Apple product. :)

Having some issues with Bootcamp.
Windows Installation was super fast.
Bootcamp tools ran.
But apparently no AMD drivers were installed and stuff like brightness control via the keyboard have not been installed despite that working on my old iMac.

Any idea what driver software to install for the highest tier GPU?
I wish AMD would offer something like gForce experience the just delivers up to date drivers without any hassle.
I almost feel like i should download the Mac Pro drivers because they at least have the 5700.

Sadly, this exact setup is what I'm trying to get away from as fast as possible. I can't stand it.

After years of working on a 5K iMac I might just go with a Dell 49" 5K wide display and a Mac mini...

Mine has changed a bit now. The screen on the right is just monitoring stuff so it's flat against the wall - the two 5k screens (iMP & the LG) are now in a V right in front of me. Works pretty well, I love having so much screen estate.
