It says that not even custom GPUs are going to be produced. It can only mean that Apple is going to upgrade iMac with Radeon 6000 or introduce the first AS iMac soon. Feel bad for those who have bought 5700 XT seeing it being replaced so soon.

We'll have to wait and see.

Apple will have no problem selling the end of life 5700 (last year's gpu and last year's mid range gpu) and replacing it with a 6000 when it launches. Whether that's saved for the iMac Pro, we'll have to see.

There will be replacement 6000 series versions of the 5700 series.

The iMac's problem will still be the Intel .14nm cpu. Which is touchy and runs hot. For that reason alone I suspect when the AS iMac 'big screen' replacement comes...it may be worth cross grading to it.

I'll be curious how heat efficient it will be.

I did note from Videocardz (with a sense of irony...) that the 5700 (standard version) was being discontinued.

The 'new' iMac 2020 has only been out a couple of months.

I don't see a new 'big' iMac until next year.

Yes, but I wonder how long they will last.
Or has a special agreement with TSMC to still produce these GPUs, but I doubt. This is really weird.

meanwhile we are still seeing iMac Pro being sold with GOUs been phased out a WHILE ago.

Apple was also selling the Dx00 series in MP 6,1 for how long? I have lost the years... :) (and it was a dated GPU series, even before the launch of MP in 2014)
So they have the experience...

The Metal Score of A14 is impressive. It's 137% higher than A12 and 72% higher than A13 according to Geekbench results. It's lot more than 30% higher GPU performance that Apple stated at WWDC.

A12 5307, A13 7308, A14 12571

It can mean that A14X and A14Z can also be much faster?

A12X 10860, A14X 25725
A12Z 11665, A14Z 27632

A12 with 4 GPU cores scores 5307. A12Z with 8 GPU cores scores 11665. 4 extra cores means 120% performance increase. An A14Z Mac SoC with 24 GPU cores could score 87876 in Metal. That's between Radeon Pro W5700XT and Radeon Pro Vega II.

Lets hope not. I'm still waiting for RDNA2 :D :D :D

Well... hope Apple has some stocks of 5700.....

If Apple decided to neglect an iMac Pro update and just shove RDNA2 into this same iMac casing, especially before the end of the year, I would be momentarily irritated, but the resale on this 5700XT iMac will be fine for a while, and it's still a great machine. Will consider an upgrade if they put in an RDNA2 card that genuinely demonstrates a 2x performance increase over the 5700XT.

I wonder if macOS11 will slip to November or will still be released this month.
If I was Craig, I'd definitively wait as long as possible, fixing as many bugs as I could. There is absolutely no rush to release macOS11. This OS is the foundation for many to come. Best to spend a sprint or two to get everything fixed.

Apple need to release this OS for AS Macs. It's mandatory. It cannot be "never" lolll.

Beta 9 is working flawless. It's the first Beta for me that I haven't notice a single glitch.

Sounds good. The beta I tried was fine. Very responsive. I'll look forward to installing the real deal when .4 ships.

I hope the Big Sur ships with a turn the turbo option off button...for the Intel cpu in the iMac.

They ought to take their time and get this right.

Well Apple just filed five new Mac model numbers in the ECC database (along with two 16" MBP models - likely upgrades to the i7 and i9 CPU from Coffee Lake Refresh to Comet Lake) so we might get multiple ASi models next month.

The iMac release was kind of 'late' and ill timed in my view.

With RDNA2 pending. That Intel cpu still runs hot though. I'm doing stuff my old quad core did in its sleep without any fans and getting 'fan fuss.' So even if they did add the RDNA2 option...the Intel cpu is still the weak link for me.

Hm.

The resale value of the current iMac will be fine for a good while yet. No AS iMac is imminent.

The RDNA2 is going to be a 4k monster. No doubt. Initial numbers have it competing with 'some' Nv 3000 gpus. We don't know 'which' RDNA2 card AMD is teasing us with.

But 4k at 60FPS+ is a good place to be.

I'm now pretty convinced we are not going to see a new iMac Pro. The 2020 model covers most of the bases and for everything else, there is Mac Pro.

An AS MacBook and some Intel MBPs?

Any Intel refreshes?

Still on .14nm?

Still running silly hot?

Will they add a 2nd fan?

The move to AS silicon can't come soon enough.

It was obsolete the day they launched the Mac Pro.

And performance wise, the new iMac buries it.

Except in cooling. I say with a bitter after taste.

An AS MacBook and some Intel MBPs?

Well the 16-inch MBPs should be going from 9th Gen to 10th Gen. So i7-9750H is replaced with i7-10750H and the i9-9880H | i9-9980HK are replaced with i9-10980HK.

As for the five new models, it is either one model in five colors or two unique models.

The 12" MacBook was available in four colors in 2018 - Silver, Space Grey, Gold and Rose Gold. So perhaps the new ASi laptop will also come in four colors and then the fifth would be the 24" iMac or the Mac Mini in a single color?

Some of these filings were originally made in June 2019, but were never released. Their peers that were released became the 2019 16" MBP, 2020 MacBook Air, (both models of the) 2020 13" MacBook Pro and the ASi Mac Mini DTK.

So chances are the "repeats" are either for Intel-powered refresh models (hence the MBP 16" and iMac Pro speculation) or Apple decided to not release them (2019/2020 iMac Pro?) and is recycling the model numbers for new product (which would likely be ASi-powered at this point).

2nd half of 2021 for the ARM iMac?

That gives the Intel iMac 'a year.' -ish.

Meantime I get to use a decent Intel iMac 2020 until I swap across.

It beats the 'snot' out of the Mac Pro and iMac Pro. (Both of those are on 6 year and 3 year + update schedules... :p )

By the time they hit their next update AS will be well established.

The iMac 2020 will be 'all the desktop' Mac many will need until then.
