27" iMac - This is what I am interested in, and am ready to buy if I like what I see. I suspect we won't get a full redesign unfortunately. I'd love to see a bigger screen around 30' in the same size chassis, but I would be ok with the same design, with a 10th gen 6-8 core CPU (with a 10 core BTO option), 16GB base RAM (user upgradable), SSD only, T2, a decent GPU (5700/5700xt) and decent cooling (like the iMac Pro). If Apple comes up with something close to that I will likely pull the trigger.
I'd like that too, but it will never happen. Apple are on the low effort/small increment train atm. I don't think we will see a full redesign until next year. Which will be a shame if true, because the iMac is ancient.

My speculation and wish listing:

iMac Pro - I think they might discontinue the 8 core base config, and drop the price on the rest, making the 10 core the starting config. Similar to how they dropped the 4 core trashcan towards the end of its life. Then update it properly when the new GPUs and/or Mini LED is available.

21" iMac - Replace with 23". Maybe keep an entry 21" around?

Yup, that's exactly what I'm hoping for too. I also just want to be able to get the upgraded GPU and CPU and 1-2tb ssd for under $3,000. (I can BTO a current gen like that for $3,100). So hopefully the SSD drops in price slightly getting me to my goal, I can upgrade the RAM later (hopefully still an option if redesigned).

Plus a space black option.

Well MCK is now saying Apple's miniLED products might slip into 2021, so the iMac Pro refresh (which is one of the products he said would get miniLED along with the 16' MBP refresh and a new 14.1" MBP) could be delayed, if true.

The delay is clearly long enough for Apple to decide to fit another generation of iMacs into the lineup to keep them ticking over. Better treatment than they gave to the Mac mini for 4 years between 2014 and 2018.

Either there's a lot of 21.5" stock still floating around the channel or Apple aren't intending to update it in a revolutionary way. The stock 27" models jumping to late May (BTO models into early June) suggests something big but the 21.5" model could stick around on the same Coffee Lake generation CPUs.

Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Apple has done with the rest of their lineup... a bump in standard storage and updated to the latest generation CPU.

We were saying the same things before the March 2019 update and every single review after that has been saying that the design needed at least a refresh.
Ditching the HDD will oblige to a thermal redesign, along with the higher TDP of the i7 & i9 (once 95W, now 125W).

I don't think the pandemic will influence much a project that surely started more than a year ago and its supply&production chain set up months ago.

It baffles me that they would introduce a new product so close to the MBP13" but it could be that they are predicting a surge in desktop demand if the social distancing becomes part of our mid-term lifestyle.

Either the 27 inch case "white" case is hard to get in COVID-19 times or something happens with the 27 inch iMac very soon. Seems strange that Apple cannot hold a stock and decent delivery times of the probably most popular iMac. I am ready for some weekend online shopping.

Which case are you referring to?

It'll be Tuesday at the earliest, but wouldn't it be ironic if Apple was running down iMac parts and then did a Comet Lake upgrade to the iMac but subsequently used the iMac Pro case with 4 Thunderbolt ports, the 1080p FaceTime camera, all SSD with T2, and locked in RAM? :)

The metal structure that holds everything together. It might be any other part as well that is specific for the 27 inch but I believe the structure or the screen is the same for all iMac. Maybe the mother board as well.

I agree. Next week seem plausible. Long overdue that the iMac used the iMP case in my opinion.

I look at BTO and stock iMac delivery time for iMac 21 and 27 respectively and iMP. Only the 27 inch has long delivery times so either it is a 27 inch specific part that is lacking or a new iMac 27 is incoming.

Yea I noticed the 27" ship times on Apple were suspicious, but how would that work? Assuming the delay is because I new model is on the way, would they just ship buyers the latest model? Doesn't seem right.

I dont understand. How does a far out date for a BTO signal a new one may be coming?
Unusually long shipping times very often predict a new product is incoming. It's no guarantee though; it is possible that it is just a temporary supply chain issue for the 27", but it is also possible we might see a 21" update as well next week. It is, however, usually a very strong indication something is going on.

Why would ditching the HDD oblige to a thermal redesign? All current iMacs can already be configured with SSDs as a BTO option.

HDDs heat up more than SSDs and occupy more volume. Every Mac ever made so far has changed its internal architecture radically when the HDDs were taken out permanently.

Right now the design is based on an HDD and offers an SSD as an alternative but that does not mean that the design is optimised for an SSD.

It would be very surprising if Apple were to launch a major redesign online for such an iconic product.
The timing for a radical change was probably scheduled around this time, until COVID changed everything.

I think next week if Jon Posser (Posser in my language mean "sh it himself" :) ) had any real info otherwise it could be anytime or WWDC :)
If the iMacs are truly ready then it is imminent. Seeing how Apple releases stuff these days without much fanfare then we may or may not get something every week and WWDC will be fully focused on software.
The wait is killing me :)

I don’t doubt Prosser, he has proven himself very reliable. I think Apple will wait until WWDC for a redesign.

It depends if they are making a WWDC developer splash on games. I can see there being some pre-recorded demos at the event to push it. Without something like that Arcade feels very much like another idea destined for the back burner - a games orientated AppleTV could be a nice little sales boost on the software side.
