And perhaps another 20 before any service actually streams in 1080p.well it took apple 20 years to give the iMac a 1080p face time camera lol

I just double checked using a ratio calculator, and it's still 16:9, and it's still 218 ppi.Thought its 16:10 now?
Yeah you're the first to mention it. Lol.I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet: It still has the same external display limitations as other M1 devices, and it still has a max of 16GB memory.
A non-standard 4.5K display resolution impossible to match with an external monitor?
A miserly mere (2) USB ports on the base model?
A +$200 up charge for (4) USB ports?
Well you have to wait for the iMac Pro now to get something in black.

It's over now. We have our redesign. Case closed.Just want to say... 409 pages for this ?!
Totally agree with this. Don't like the chin or white bezels, but glad they kept the same aspect ratio (thanks @Lava Lamp Freak). Will probably buy it after some thought. Which config will you guys be getting? The dual-core i5 21.5" iMac?That is actually much nicer than what they showed today. The Apple logo missing is a weird choice. It looks so naked.
But the black bezels are much much nicer
True, but I was hoping for an iMac that would match the 24" 4K LG monitor. Apple isn't a trend setter if nobody follows. Oh well.Has to be in order to be Retina. The 21.5" iMac 4K was also non-standard at 4096x2304 compared to industry 4K, which is 3840x2160.
At least we will have the new Apple Thunderbolt 4.5K Display to pair with it.
That might be true for the MBA and MBP but the M1 Mini already includes everything on the top 24" iMac except the TouchID keyboard and display. This has to be a deliberate price differentiating gimmick to squeeze an extra price tier out of one chip. The M1 SoC appears to only support 2xUSB4 considering that is what we see on the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac mini. So they have to add a separate USB controller chip for the 2 USB-C ports the higher-end models support.
Well $200 for the controller chip to support those 2 USB-C ports, 1Gb Ethernet, TouchID, and an 8th GPU Core.

Was hoping for an "iMac Pro Mini" more or less.
M1 is not a toy, nor would an "iMac Pro Mini" be a toy.I'm not getting this toy

Most people found out it would come with M1 chip merely just a couple of days before release.
The 24" M1 iMac can drive it's built-in 4.5K display plus up to a 6K @ 60Hz external display. The M1 is currently blowing away the top-spec 27" iMac in Geekbench single-core, and not too far behind in mulit-core. It's not hurting for performance.Performance I think is also not good. Only having the same chip as the base models is not enough for all the pixels in the built-in display, and even the lowest iMacs always had far more performance than the base Mac laptops. It doesn't bode well for the larger iMac, which I think will be one step higher than the lower. That won't be enough.

It's actually pretty funny... none of us called Apple releasing it with an unchanged M1 chip, right? How could we have been so blind? ?
I kind of like it without the logo! I think the only thing I don't like about today's unveiling is the color choice and the size of the display. But hey, I don't think we are the audience for this iMacThat is actually much nicer than what they showed today. The Apple logo missing is a weird choice. It looks so naked.

It's a frustrating release. On one hand, I'm still using a ten-year-old computer. On the other, nothing about this new iMac says here's the long-term solution for your professional needs. WWDC also feels suspiciously close now... especially with previous rumours that we'd see an AR-focused event. I get the feeling that we won't see an M2 iMac until the fall. I am disheartened.
Also... the white bezels. If I were briefly on the fence about ordering... this has planted my feet back on the ground.
