I just hope that all this waiting is for new Renoir 8c/16t APUs and not Comet Lake, I'm getting tired of Intel selling the same chips over and over again.

The i9-10900K hit 93c at stock settings with a 240mm AIO water cooler

Amen to that. The Renoir looks compelling. AMD's many cores is great bang for buck.

There's talk of AMD's RDNA2 consumer cards not actually shipping this year due to a combination of coronavirus delays and next generation Xbox and Playstation using up what production capacity there is - let's face it, it would be stupid of AMD to upset Microsoft and Sony by diverting any production to PC graphics cards. As I understand it, the 3000 series Nvidia cards are still due to be announced in August (not that there's any chance we see one as an option in a Mac).

Aye. Back end of the year is pushing it from the sounds of it for Big Navi. Shipping in volume in Spring next year, perhaps?

This is what Apple should have done for the iMac long ago. ????
Such a shame we can’t have that it is beyond beautiful and practical too.

No

Impossible to fit full power components in such a small form factor. Try to fit a Radeon Pro 5700 + 10 core i9 + SSD + RAM with sufficient cooling. Impossible. Disgusting, impossible concept.

With a touch keyboard ? lol. I'm a fan of mechanical keyboards. Definitively not for me.

I like much better a concept using a ticker Pro XDR display with rotational stand in which you can fit all these components with decent cooling.

Waiting for them to make SSD storage standard on the iMac until I buy another one... I just don't get paying the extra $$$ for it when it's included in the standard price of all their other computers I believe.

Hold, be patient! Not good times to buy a new PC until October-November (Ryzen 4000, RTX 3000, AMD 'Big NAVI'). You'll regret it hehe.
The irony is that in the case of the PС, you can go at any time, buy the new hardware you need and change it on your computer)) It works like magic! (c) Jobs :D

We, mac users, simply began to forget about it almost without such an opportunity.

I believe if I purchase a an iMac this week a new version will definitely come out the next day . LOL
Murphy's law is always on guard :D

Looks like i'll most likely be the one ya'll sacrifice to the computer gods. My current computer's screen is flickering and making it unusable, combined with bluetooth failing and some of the keys failing I can't take it any longer. I'll most likely have to just get the 2019 model today.

This means that the new iMac will be released 15 days after my iMac gets delivered of course.

I hope they have redesigned it. A redesign is mandatory to sufficiently cool this chip.

If liquid-cooling can't keep the damn thing from throttling, there is no hope for air-cooling so even adding the iMac Pro's thermal system would be insufficient, but since my i7 is at 65° C watching Twitch in Chrome, any bit would help.

Definitively on WWDC.

If Apple have decided that Comet Lake S isn't worth it - and remember they probably know how Rocket Lake S is panning out - they can release the iMac Air with a more civilised Comet Lake H CPU range. It would present a lower target for a future ARM based iMac.

Or they just won't allow Comet Lake S to boost that high. :)

They can offer Comet Lake S in the 65W versions, as well. Like Comet Lake H, it will have a significantly lower Base Clock, but honestly that probably doesn't matter because either your tasks won't need even that speed or the CPU will be in Turbo Boost mode and TB speeds are not too far behind the 125W models.

I can make a lot of things out of higher clock, trust me :p ahah

But yes, maybe they will only put the 10900, which is 65w TDP https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...10900-processor-20m-cache-up-to-5-20-ghz.html , but this is a sever down clock.

True, but not sure how often CPUs are operating at Base Clock - chances are they are either below that (between Minimum and Base Clock) or in Turbo Boost and the Turbo Boost speeds are pretty close to the 125W models, but likely with fairly lower TDPs so they may be able to get closer to Max Clock.

And the Comet Lake H i9-10980HK is 2.4GHz vs. 2.8GHz Base Clock for the i9-10900 so arguably it is better to stay with a 65W Comet Lake S desktop CPU than a 65W Comet Lake H mobile CPU.

are you crazy? iMac Pro is almost double of 27" so no way I'm paying that unless its heavily loaded.
iMac 27" is right now better deal than Pro in many aspects so if they bump up the specs it will be even better.
iMac Pro needs heavy updates to justify the price and Apple should not price out another group of prosumers just like they did with Mac Pro.

On the other hand, if they put dumbed down version of XDR display and the new iMac Pro will become 32" then that price could be justified and some people would be willing to stretch their budget for that.
However 27" needs to have affordable/reasonable starting point as its great family computer etc. so Apple needs to be careful here.

They could update the 21.5” iMac to a new design 23” iMac (same body, smaller bezels) and discontinue the 27” iMac and just have the 27” iMac Pro. This will differentiate the lineup a bit more.
