Looks awesome - can't wait to see the 27" one :)
Please add logo and I guess this design would need adjustable height but then thats about it.
Its so fresh and beautiful and also the right design language. XDR style on the back with more thickness to have computer inside and we are fine.
However, I think Apple won't go this direction as as elegant as it looks it just seems to look like a screen rather than a computer so maybe Apple will still insist on some form of chin.
:)

Just for fun, I made an iMac mockup where the screen has the same square size as the old screen + chin, and also reduced the bezel to XDR display level size (1,5cm).

Shockingly, this would allow a 26" display!

I'll do the same for the 27" too soon

Are people going to rush out and buy any “new design”? I’d love to, as my mid-2011 iMac is really struggling now. I have saved for a new one, and have been hoping for a redesign for ages, but worry about any glitches. Maybe better to wait 6 months or so, if mine holds out that long????

I've just realised one thing. Ever since there was a hint about update on the iMac I started to think about it more and more and came here more and more. Before that I was doing my own business and didn't have an iMac on my mind even though I need/want one. Now, its almost an obsession but to be honest, it made me realise that we are talking about a computer here and we probably already have one at home if its something we need for work/pleasure so this is just a craving for something better than what we currently have. So I think I might take a step back and not obsessed about something so much. Its unhealthy and also makes no sense as in the end we don't know when Apple will give it to us so all this time "wasted" could be used somewhere with more productivity.
Its fun to speculate but this has been too much for me and seeing that some of us are repeating what we said many times before I would say some of you are in the same situation as me.
At the end of the day, its just a tool and it will come eventually. :)
Lets all enjoy the time a little better :)

My 2017 is more than fine for my current use and performance/functionality means more to me than design - especially for something that could approach $4000 in the configuration I order. So a new design won't be enough to get me to place an order.

Better have a cloned external backup drive just in case. My old 2011 27” iMac’s HDD, which I sold to my brother years ago, went bad. I tried to create an external boot drive for it using an OWC mobile drive but ran into a software glitch. He did have Time Machine set up but he was running it on the iMac’s internal HDD.

Just give it a month or so, until reviews happen and ifixit perform a tear down. No need to wait months and months.

Speak for yourself! I want a 32in redesigned iMac with a 5700 XT ;)

You're right. It is slightly pathetic when you think about it, but I love tech and Apple, so can't avoid it....

Haha I feel the same. I spend too much time thinking about it and reading about it here. I did the same before the 2011 iMac was released. I should just stick to reading once a week or so.

On the other hand, I spend most of my waking hours sitting in front of this machine, so it's not that crazy to give it such importance.

This is why I was just going to buy an iMac pro refurb , so I can stay behind a version and know everything works for my audio recording and other applications , driver etc . I have a 2013 iMac now and I'm worried about the power supply not making it another month . So i'm in a bit of a rush to resolve my future setup . Brand new ideas that come out are always a hit or miss with the hey this new idea is great BUT that thing you do doesn't work anymore . lol I run a home automation business so yeah I know how this goes. Apple has been my good experience compared to the automation business so far . Then the flip side is how long things STAY supported with older versions of stuff . A lot of the audio guys are still running older mac pros too . I'm trying to maintain patience and not get hasty here lol

Speak for yourself! I want a 32in redesigned iMac with a 5700 XT ;)

You're right. It is slightly pathetic when you think about it, but I love tech and Apple, so can't avoid it....

I'm with you on the flagship 32 inch 'where have you been all my life?' redesigned iMac 6k XDR with 5700XT for a priced to go £3k.

Apple Mac users (especially those with Steve Jobs founding father memories...) are known to be the most passionate and vociferous of computer users.

Passion. Bordering on 'Obsession.'

But of course. It is what it is.

We say the same things.

We want the same things.

For the iMac.

We expect, hope and demand it.

Speaking for myself, I'm in limbo with a 'walking dead' iMac that only works in bootcamp with green peppercorn flek on my 'working fine' screen.

Trust Apple to move the WWDC back a month... :p

I almost bought the 2019 8 core iMac...(last year) but I didn't think the gpus in it were good enough for the prices asked.

Got caught out with the late 2012 iMac. I didn't have to buy it. I should have waited for the retina iMac which was only a year away. Whether it is a redesign or not, I'm going to have to buy. I don't have a working Mac. It's taught me the value of having a back up computer. So a 2nd computer purchase will go alongside it. A PC tower with Hackintosh capabilities of the dual boot kind. Like any kind of business, if one computer goes down you should have more than an iPhone as back up if I'm to be candid.

I'm expecting the specs to be more ambitious this time around. As are other Mac heads.

As for waiting. Just to prove how crazy some Mac users are. I waited 10 years for the right Mac to come along and I bought the iMac 24 incher rather than the bauhaus (and immaculate) grater Pro. My Mac before that was a 'clone' based on the 8500. £1999 inc VAT before memory and gpu upgrades... So I'm more a natural Mac tower buyer but not at the crazy £6k prices. Now beyond my reach, realistically. A PC Hack' tower is far more achievable at a 1/3rd of the cost.

But I've enjoyed the serenity working on two successive iMacs. They've both been flawed heat, cooling design wise. The 1st one you could barely touch as it got so hot in the top left corner...and the 2nd one's gpu cooked in its own enclosure.

I hope Apple are reading these boards. As not alot of what we're asking for is too unreasonable.

Ten years, eh? Compared to that, waiting for this year's WWDC is...'easier.'

For those who can wait from the more comfortable perch of having a working Mac this wait is perhaps less excruciating.

Yes. There is a somewhat chequered history of some '1st gen' Apple designs having issues. Butterfly *cough* keyboard...or peeling paint on a Ti Book...

I have no choice.

I'm putting my order in, regardless.

It is...my destiny...

Decent job. Interesting rationale about screen size with losing the chin. Let's have your '27' inch version soon, no?

It's probably going to be 24 and 30/32 though. Though we've only heard about a 24 incher and no 32 incher?

I can see those sleek bezels coming to the iMac and the rest of the room goes on the screen becoming bigger.

See, I do not want a 32" 6K display since it will not work cohesively with my second display (a 27" QHD).

Now if they go 32" at 5K (5120x2880) with minLED and HDR then I will consider it.

Apple is probably waiting for me to buy a refurb iMac pro , then they will come out with the new iMacs the next day ! lol

Don't do it. Dont. Be. That sacrificial lamb... :D

You'll get a steeper discount on the iMac Pro...after the new iMac launches.

*looks obsessively, bitterly....lustfully.

**Der-rool, der-rool.

***I'm fine without chin. Just put the badge on 'teh' back of 'puter.

Those slender bezels add a level of refinement to the iMac.

I could see myself laying out big cash for that.

Losing the chin makes the design look far more dramatic with the bezel trim.

Apple? APPLE?! *(knocks on the internet...)

I just want Target Display Mode back more than anything

Now with the newer DisplayPort standards allowing for single-stream 6K/5K/4K that might be possible again with a new native 60Hz+ Retina panel that does not need an external timing controller (which is what broke TDM on the 4K and 5K iMacs back in 2014/2015).
