Without a question you should get one, especially the one without a cutout at the top and instead the full coverage. $10 to give you peace of mind (if you are slightly OCD about perfection like me)

I am just curious to see what people think about the new Apple advertising for the “Crystal“ strengthened glass on the iPhone, and whether or not they will still use some form of screen protector on their new iPhone 12, or wait to decide for once product testers reveal reviews on the actual durability of the glass.
Based on my cracked corner of my xs max. Yes. At the time xnet claimed it was the toughest screen they tested at the time and survived drop test. So Apple or who ever can claim 4x strength but I don’t want to have to pay $400 to get this replaced.

The tempered glass ones feel just as good as the original glass IMO. And if you get one that includes the installation 'frame' it's really pretty easy nowadays.

Yep. The tempered glass protectors feel just like the actual screen. I’ve never felt like it interfered with anything. I usually completely forget there’s a screen protector there. Those cheap plastic sticker type ones however are a different story.

the surface, yes. But the edges which often catch your fingers and give a rough feeling are not great. I still have one on my 11 rather than not, but I hope the flat screen of the 12 allows for a simpler fit and less noticable edge (probably not)

No question there are bad screen protectors. one should always check reviews. the one on my XS has smooth curved edges and my fingers never catch on it. ymmv.

I haven’t used screen protectors on my previous iPhones, but I will on my next iPhone, and the main reason is the wear on the oleophobic coating after 6-8 months. On the keyboard area of the screen, specially if you type swiping your finger over the glass (I only type this way) you end up with the bare glass with no oleophobic coating there. Has happened me on the iPhone SE and now on my 8. So on my next iPhone, I will use a glass that I can replace. Also, many of this tempered glass protectors come with their own oleophobic coating.

What’s the issue with a worn off Oleophobic coating? The glass gets grippier (gains grip on that region) so it becomes more difficult to slide the finger to type swipping. Also, if you get your fingers greasy, that part of the glass becomes a mess.

Until now, my issue with tempered glass protectors is the home button. Its just not the same to feel the hole through the glass. I hope that with an all screen iPhone that won’t be an issue to use the home bar and multitask.

Also, it will protect against the scratches that, no matter what, always happen.
I guess the extra layer on the front and the case wont make the iPhone overheat in summer, right?

Hey, do you know if a glass screen protector is an issue for under the screen fingerprint recognition? I ask this because Touch ID is probably coming to the iPhone next year.

I go full protection the initial 4-8 months then i start striping them away from the device, no idea why but its been the history for my previous iphones..

I’m not convinced that applying a screen protector doesn’t damage the coating on the screen through adhesives. I just use a case and call it good enough. Always put the phone in an empty pocket and set it down on its back.

I’ve never seen any evidence of damage to my phones after using screen protectors when I’ve removed them. I’ve seen plenty of evidence of colleagues not using a protector and having a screen covered in scratches though.

Got my first iPhone in 2014, a 6+ that is still my main phone. Never used a screen protector. No scratches no cracks. But I’m thinking of trying one when my new 12 Pro 256 gets here.

Meh. To each their own. In my view I want some contact with the phone since there’s already a case on it. I like the feel of the screen. But once you put a screen protector on you have a fully enveloped condom

The feel of your finger on glass is the same whether it’s a 0.2mm glass screen protector or the glass of the screen IMO.

I won't. But I never had done that in the past, so why change that? I get why a screen protector might help prevent scratches, but apart from some micro scratches ones on my iPhone XS I actually never had any issues. I just try to be use my iPhone in as much as a normal way as I can. Never dropped one, never put it in the same pocket as where my keys are etc.

So no. I'm not getting a screen protector. Never needed one, and I certainly don't need one now. 😇

It's not even a question for me.

The new phone comes out of the box, gets inspected, and gets a screen protector installed straight away. It then gets popped into a protective case. When they are available, I generally also put a clear skin on the handset, so that the process of popping it in and out of the case periodically to clean it doesn't scratch it.

OCD, yes probably! :)

Each to their own. I admit the experience of using a handset "naked" is much nicer, but I was brought up to value my belongings. I simply can't get my head around it when I see folk with £1000+ handsets not even in a cheap case.

If I did somehow manage to scratch the screen on mine to any noticeable degree, I'd be straight in to have it repaired or replaced.
