I’m not convinced that applying a screen protector doesn’t damage the coating on the screen through adhesives. I just use a case and call it good enough. Always put the phone in an empty pocket and set it down on its back.
The continuous oils from your fingers, dust and whatever else gets on the screen does more to speed up the degradation process of the coating, than a single application of a screen protector that leaves very little or no residue on the screen.

the ESR protector I put on my launch day 11 Pro Max was cheap & lasted perfectly these last 13-months - no lift / peel / bubbling or scratches. I looked at the Peel option above, but don't feel the need to spend more than ESR money.

the surface, yes. But the edges which often catch your fingers and give a rough feeling are not great. I still have one on my 11 rather than not, but I hope the flat screen of the 12 allows for a simpler fit and less noticable edge (probably not)

This one is suppose have tapered edges which would get rid of the rough edge feeling.

@hirsthirst I brought the ESR from Amazon for the 12PM, but didn’t like that the edges was square, and with not using a case, I thought that there might be too many chances for lift. From the pictures on Peel’s site, it seems as though the edges are slightly rounded. I won’t know until the it arrives if that is the case or not.

Thanks for the nod. This will be good as a back-up when I get too OCD from the scratches on the Peel screen protector that I ordered.

I will. Micro-scratches bother me, and screen protectors are so good these days it's not really a negative. This isn't the old days of the horrible static cling protectors.

I have never put any screen protector on any of my phones. Never got a single scratch or crack.
Lucky? No. It is my gentleness with things that I own in general.

You aren't looking hard enough.

I got the ESR a few days ago as that was all I could find on Amazon. I'll use them for now and wait until there are more options, and more importantly, more reviews, and then pick up something better if there is.

I have two micro scratches on my 8 Plus. I absolutely will use a screen protector on the 12 Pro Max.

I'm shocked to see how many people use a screen protector! Do they really do anything?
I think the laws of physics will tell you a glass layer on top of a glass screen will inevitably prevent the screen underneath getting scratched.

There’s no right and wrong answer here. I couldn’t give a toss if someone I don’t know on the internet scratches their screen or doesn’t. All I care about is making sure I don’t damage my phone unnecessarily. A tempered glass screen protector has always absorbed the scratches so they are not permanent and for me, that’s a job well done. They also have the added bonus that they don’t impede the feel or use of the phone because glass is glass.

Anyone see any non-glass screen protectors?

I didn’t notice any yet from Tech Armor, the brand I have been using forever.

I have a Skinomi matte on my Xs Max. Been on for over a year and it looks great still.

I prefer the plastic screen protectors as well but I can’t find any for the iPhone 12...did you have any luck?

I always used the Zagg ones on my phones up until I bought the X. Then, no protector I bought seemed to sit right on it because o the curved edges. So I just went without it and used my replacements under Apple Care. I think I'm just going to do the same thing again with the 12 Pro.

Possibly this, yes. :)

I've seen other's peoples phones, that they would describe as "mint", and I've looked at them and thought they were pretty rough.

I’ve always preferred film because they were less obtrusive with the rounded display edges. Now that the 12 is completely flat I think I will try glass this year. It will be much easier to apply and should be completely unnoticeable, hopefully..

Nope its 2.5D

I will always use one until the iPhone comes with a sapphire Crystal display (something I doubt will happen anytime soon).

Sapphire Crystal is far more scratch resistant, but shatters easier than fancy glass. Not sure about ceramic glass though. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s why some watches, even rather expensive ones, may still feature mineral glass (e.g. G-Shocks, including all the metal versions bar the titanium models).

Personally, I think all AWs should feature sapphire crystal faces, but iPhones should stick with glass, just because you’re more likely to drop a phone than a watch.

A few members of my family use glass protectors (Belkin) and they are all cracked and chipped.
I didn’t on mine, but I have a Apple Folio case so the flap protects them, and I much prefer the feel of the actual phone.

I’m not sure how using a screen protector with cracked edges etc makes using and enjoying the phone ‘better’. I’d rather have micro scratches on the phone itself.
Then, when you get something fixed (had a camera go bad), they take off your protector anyway.

I’m bummed that there doesn’t appear to be a folio case this year. But I’ll still try it without a glass protector.

With Belkin Screen Protectors they offer a lifetime warranty against chips cracks etc whilst it’s on your device apparently. Is this genuine or just marketing fluff?

Yes, absolutely. Got a small scratch about a week in after getting my xr and it was highly annoying. Got a screen protector straight after. They’re an absolute must, IMO.
