Good lord I love Torpedo. Such a great flavor for the cost. I like Pyramid, too. I don't often tell people that. Opinions on Pyramid vary so much.

any suggestions for my friend. i try to stock things he likes at the house. solid choices have been negra modelo, pilsner urquell, alternate dimension and drive thru red both found at Trader Joe's. i'm in so cal (LA) FWIW.

It would all be dependent on what style of beer he or she likes. Pilsner Urquell is one of the better Pils out there. Solid choice. Do they like Stouts, Porters, Triples, IPA's, Saison's, Bourbon aged, Ales, Reds, Hefs, or ... I like Modelo, but I like their standard lager better than the negra.

Stone makes a rather good pils called "Who you callin' Wussie". I like it. But keep in mind, there are different styles of Pilsner also, you have the traditional Czech, German, and now American also.

Sam Adams - Pils called Noble Pils
Left Hand Brewing - Polestar Pils
Sierra Nevada - Nooner Pils (This one is just ok... but if they like the style it can't hurt to try it)
Warsteiner German Pils - Good!
Bitburger Premium Pils - Good
Straropramen Czech Pils - Good
Lagunitas Pils - Ok to good
Founders PC Pils - Good

I had to look up the Alternate Dimension beer as I didn't know what it was, but there given that it is a German style brown ale... Here is a short list of Brown's to try:

Alaskan Amber - Good
Lagunitas - Doppel Sticky
Sierra Nevada - Alt Route
Hanger 24 - Al-Bier - Decent
North Coast Brewing - Alt Nouv - Decent
Firestone Walker - Agrestic, I have only found this one at their brewery, however I know they just opened up a restaurant/brewery in Los Angeles. I haven't been yet, but it is on my list of places to go.
Mission Brewery - Amber Ale - I have only had this at their San Diego brewery and at the LA Beer fest. I am sure it pops up at Total Wine or other areas.
The Lost Abbey - Devil Went Down to Georgia, this one is pretty darn good, but it is leaning more towards a red style of beer. I really like this brewery and have yet to find a beer that I have tried from them that I didn't like.

And yes, I have tried them all, some on more than one occasion.

Agree with @rhett7660:

It would help to know what the individual preferences of the person in question:

Agree also about the merits of Staropramen, Bitberger, Lagunitas and Founder's. They all produce some terrific beers.

Not a massive fan of Sierra Nevada, it is "okay" rather than excellent or really good.

Some of the others are specific to the North American market, and - apart from reading about them here, I have never hard of them, let alone laid eyes on them or quaffed a glass in my hand.

However, I do recommend anything by Buxton Brewery (and outstanding UK outfit), and by Innis & Gunn. Mikkller are also excellent.

Thanks for the suggestions. My buddy prefers reds and alts, not usually a fan of IPA.

I decided to wait until half time in the England game before addressing the fact that I had neither glass nor bottle in front of me.

This has now been remedied.

I have just opened a splendid white wine from Burgundy, a Puligny-Montrachet, (Maison Roche de Bellene); the grape is Chardonnay, the vines are ancient ("vielles vignes"), and it is classed as a Grand Vin de Bourgogne.

The Sierra Nevada Hoptimum is spectacular. If Torpedo a 9/10, Hoptimum is a 9.7/10, easily one of the best IPAs I've experience (and I've had a quite a few :D)

Yep. Love it. I picked up a few cases of the Tropical Torpedo earlier this week. It's a limited run so I cleared out the store's shelf. Probably drop by Kroger and clean them out, too.

I tried Torpedo once; too strong for me.

Try some of the bitter lagers from Eastern Europe. Feels like you got punched in the back of the head.

I drank nothing yesterday; nothing but lemonade with an orange wedge. I didn’t pick up the beer from Total Wine yet, so I’ll do that tonight...along with a couple more bottles of Belvedere vodka. Thank you Poland!

A Sauvignon Blanc from the New World, from New Zealand, an elegant and balanced wine which is a flagship wine "Premium Wine of New Zealand". It comes from "Two Rivers of Marlborough Altitude Sauvignon Blanc".

Delicious. I just split a bottle of French Viognier myself, while sitting outside in a lovely flower-lined courtyard listening to live jazz.

I asked my wine merchant to recommend a few white wines that might push me a little - just a little - out of my comfort zone for white wine (which normally comprises white Burgundies, where I would dwell eternally and happily, or Rieslings or Gewürztraminers from Alsace); he recommended this wine and it is lovely.

Just went to their website and they have quite a few beers I wouldn't mind trying. Cher and Choco being one of them!

The beers that I have sampled (I decide to give the gin & tonic flavoured thing a miss - if I want spirits, I prefer to pour and mix them myself) were excellent.

I bought the Imperial Pale Ale, the Imperial Stout, and an India Pale Ale.
