1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup butter
2 cups vanilla ice cream
rum
water
nutmeg
1. Combine sugar, brown sugar and butter in a 2-quart saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until butter is melted (6-8 min).
2. Combine cooked mixture with ice-cream in a large mixing bowl, and beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often until smooth (1-2 min). I use a Vitamix and it works great. Store refrigerated up to 2 weeks or frozen up to one month.
3. I use the mugs below. So to serve fill one-quarter of the mug with batter, add one ounce (or more) of rum and fill the remaining mug with boiling water. Stir vigorously to create a frothy head. Sprinkle with nutmeg, optional (I don’t add it).
I like this rum very much.

Hot buttered rum.
So today, my wife and I attended Vineyard Day at our favorite central coast winery. We ended up with about a case and a half of wine from two locations and we also bought a future barrel! We will get to choose the varietal and be involved in the whole wine making process. We will also get to design our own label for all the bottles we will receive. I look forward to opening these with friends on a momentous occasion like my daughter’s college graduation or her wedding.

my wife and I are very excited. we were hesitant at first because it is a larger investment, but we figured that it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity. I will be contacting the owner tomorrow to discuss varietal choice. they plan to harvest most of the vineyard in the next week or so. I want to get a feel of what he thinks the best wine making grape will be this year. all things equal, my wife is leaning towards Syrah. it's a grape that typically does well in that particular area.
What about blends? Or does it have to be a single grape varietal? Or can you have a mixture?
We can do a blend, but it would probably have to be something they do or have done in the past. I wouldn’t want it any other way because everything they make is delicious and I wouldn’t want to risk creating something new that may not turn out well. Also, there single varietals are excellent and we’ve been buying their wine for 15 years now.
The reason I thought of blends is that Syrah often blends well with other grapes; I wasn't thinking that you should do it, (or risk anything), rather, that (with advice and suggestions) it should be left in the hands of those who know how best to do attend to these matters.
they do a rhone style GSM which is pretty good. that is a consideration for sure. they do not grow merlot or cab franc, so a Bordeaux style cab sauv would not be possible. that would have probably been my first choice.

Ah, well, good enough to buy again is fairly high praise. There are many things I’ve tried that were good but not necessarily enough to envisioning buying more. There’s so much excellent stuff out there that if it something makes it on the buy again list, it’s typically quite tasty.Considering that it was my first beer in around a week (and in the Balkans, despite their superb beer and wine, I actually had very little to drink - most nights drinking nothing, on account of this heavy chest and head cold I have), and yes, I am still on medication, but suffice to say that I thought it absolutely delicious.
Sufficiently delicious to invest in more of them, when I next return to the off licence (and deli) in question.
