In a coffee shop.
Bought some beers today, (Trappistes Rochefort 8 & 10, and a four pack of Founder's Breakfast Stout).

I was told that next week, it may be possible to acquire Founder's CBS, and Founder's Curmudgeon's Better Half (a beer I had asked about, plaintively, around two months ago).

I have never had the pleasure of tasting Founder's CBS; I was away last year when they received their sole annual delivery and - needless to say - it sold out swiftly. This year, I shall be on hand for any such delivery.

Several bottles of port of varying vintages and advanced age lurked in crates in the room that passes for a cellar.

It was time to greet one of them.

One of these seemed sufficiently antique to broach: A bottle of Ramos Pinto Vintage 1991.

This is a deliciously and exquisitely smooth port, beautifully balanced and elegant.

Had an outstanding stout this weekend. Firestone 2017 Scotch Parabola. The Scotch on this one really comes through. Once it was given a chance to breath a little... oh my!

How long did you let it breathe?

When was it bottled?

A few years ago, I bought a few (highly recommended) imperial stouts that had been aged in Teelings Whiskey barrels (two Hundred Fathoms- they were expensive and brutally strong, and that 'heat' from the whiskey came through unpleasantly, and in a manner that was sharp and too strong).

Anyway, I didn't like the one I tried, and put them aside, forgetting about them. Nearly two years later, I discovered them in a crate, and decided to try one, having been advised to leave them for a while and see what would happen. Ageing had matured and balanced this stout and it was now a stunning beer.

It wasn't bottled, it was on tap. Going to assume it was from 2017, so roughly a year of being aged. The place I was at had a Firestone Brewery tap take over. They had several versions of this beer including a coconut version, which wasn't as good as the Scotch.

I also tried Bierbourwerj De Koningshoeven's La Trappe Quadrupel on tap. This one was also really good. These were the two standouts on the night for me.

Barley wine. Never "got" it. :)
At present enjoying a rather nice Cono Sur Sauvignon Blanc. A blessed relief from the New Zealand mouthful of grass…

No, nor I, I suspect.

These (I bought three over a year ago) were recommended to me and I opened one tonight to see how I found it. I'll drink what I have, but no, not what I would find myself reaching for in the future, this is true.

Well, I tell myself that you need to prod yourself and venture of out of your comfort zone every so often, just to see what is out there - otherwise, I'd never drink anything but Founder's KBS or Trappistes Rochefort and some seriously tart stuff from the excellent brewers at Buxton.

Bought a half case of 2006 Zinfandel from
Macleod Family Vineyards. We are wine club members and they were offering up to 2007 from their personal library at the Sonoma pick up party. A friend who is local to them told me about this and I inquired. I was told that the 2007 was no longer being offered, but I could get some 2006 instead. I’m going to let them sit for a week or so before I crack one open to avoid bottle shock. Will report back.

I was just browsing the internet yesterday when some beers from Abbaye de Saint Martin jumped out at me so they will arrive this morning. Ordered some Triple at 9% and some Bruin at 8%
