Nope, work paid for my m1, it replaced my broken 2015 and its fast enough and docked 99% of the time. I wasn't in a position to wait, I already delayed getting a laptop until the m1 was released. The new M series will also cost a lot more and I was near my max budget already.

when it comes to computers I always say you buy for what you need to do. The only time I have buyers remorse is when I buy below what I need. Better chips would be gravy for me and I’m content with my purchase.

Excuse me! Why do you even care what we think about our recent purchase.
I care 😘

You don’t have to answer the question. Or even read the thread........

Apple’s mac line is going through a lot of rapid changes finally, and not just their recent meandering lineup changes over the last 5-7 years. The guy is looking for a little validation and alternative perspectives that may influence his short term and long term decisions.

Can we in general stop this kind of post ? Buyer remorse / what is coming next/ will you trade... etc ? Its 10 topic a day.

Also there is always new tech, i bought the m1 knowing it and i am happy with it. So happy with it that I don’t think any m2 or even a m4 could have argument to make me buy a new one anytime soon.

Well, I don’t know that I’d be entitled to buyers remorse, I didn’t buy mine. But even if I had, no I wouldn’t. There’s always something new on the horizon and more so with these, we knew without a doubt there would be better models within the year, two at most.

It doesn’t make the current M1 systems any less impressive, it doesn’t render them useless. What we can do now, we will still be able to do next year. They’re still an impressive leap forward.

The potential good news out of it all, for me at least, is Apple may finally be getting rid of the TouchBar. So when I do decide to replace my Air, I’ll finally be able to buy a big MacBook Pro again. Though I’d be just as happy, if not more so, if they brought back the function keys and kept the TouchBar. But as long as there’s a lovely row of actual keys, I’ll be happy.

I picked up my new M1 MBP on 23 Dec, but was returned to the Apple store on 3 Jan for a higher spec model. This new one is due for delivery this week.
The new 14" model sure sounds exciting, but this new 13" M1 I am due to receive should be sufficient for my needs.
I may take a look at the new models later this year and see if it's worth making the change then.
I will not be cancelling this second order.

With a new redesign and more ports, not to mention faster performance, do you wish you’d have waited?

Myself, I’ll buy a 16” MBP, and leave my 13” 16 512 at my nan’s place, where I stay at weekends.

What’s your story? What do you intend to do?

When do you reckon the new MBPs will launch?

I got an M1 machine for testing and development work. I plan to sell it in spring. It was abundantly clear that 2021 will bring more powerful (and more expensive) Apple Silicon machines.

After using the Mac Mini 16/512 M1 for a little over a week (returned now), I have decided to keep my Macbook pro 16" i9 for a few more years or buy only need.
The Mini M1 is a brilliant machine and meets all my needs. With that said, I will not have to buy pro machines anymore in the future which is good. I save a lot of money.
My main use is Sony A7R III Raw editing and 4K video for real estate.

Was the 16” too big for your liking, or were there other reasons?
There are four reasons why I didn't like that machine. First, it was generally too big to put in a standard bag. I don't fancy carrying around a bag that looks like I'm going camping when I can have something smaller to commute to work. Second, It was too heavy. Maybe the M1 16 inch will be lighter due to the new hardware inside, but I wouldn't count on it. Third, Putting on a cover made it even heavier. Why would you spend $3500 on a computer and not protect it, right? This messed with the lid because the cover made the lid heavier. If you had the lid angled even slightly less than 90° from the keyboard, the weight of the cover would slowly close the lid. I don't know if they adjust the tension on those lids depending on the size of the screen, but it seemed like the tension couldn't handle the added weight. Fourth, the battery life was trash. That will probably change with the M1, but it won't be as good as the 13 inch. I don't really want to go back to shorter battery life. We had a power outage recently for 11 hours, and I was able to work on my MacBook 13 inch the whole time without worrying about having to charge.

It's probably a great machine if you're going to leave it plugged in and on your desk.

I'll keep my Macbook Air M1 until there's at least one decent emulator for x86 virtual machines, then I'll think about upgrading...

Why would anyone buy a 13” and then sell it a couple of months later? Do people just buy these things just to have the latest and greatest?

I highly doubt if something doesn’t run on the 13“ M1, that it will run on the 14” M2.

Why do some people eat steak and potatoes, when a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with chips will fill the stomach just the same?

Why do some people upgrade cars or a house, when nothing has really changed in condition or need?

If the current m1 fits one's needs but, the next M series will do so even better, it might behoove said person to at least take a look at the newer M series. Nothing wrong with at least looking. If it is nothing more than a small spec bump, the difference is negligible and not worth the upgrade. And even if that ends up being the case, some here will get the new 14 or 16" just because they can and it is a part of what they do every release, while some others here may have realized after the fact, that they didn't quite get what they needed or wanted, and will upgrade even if it means a slight hit in the wallet.

What happens here in electronics happens in almost every segment of our lives, in one way or another. Some are prudent and some are utter walk off the cliff as you smile follies.

Funny thing my 2011 iMac died one week before the announcement of the M1 Macs. I need a second computer as a backup for my 16" MBP. When the M1 Macs were introduced I decided not to jump the gun. Looking at the design and feature offerings of the current M1 lineup I knew that Apple put these out as a "test product" for the "I gotta have one" crowd and the YouTube reviewers and I absolutely knew Apple would be coming out with whole new designed products in 2021 so I'm glad I waited.
