I didn't get an M1 but I do have regrets about finally upgrading to the 13" 2020 Intel model back in September...only for these lovely touchbar-less / MagSafe / other ports rumours to hit. Man am I gutted. I miss MagSafe and would take physical function keys over the TB any day of the week.

I got a Mac Mini M1 16GB/1TB and I don't regret it! This guy is fast enough for all my needs and even if there's always a faster Mac on the horizon, this is the fastest one I've ever had (and I usually buy i7 MBPs). Totally satisfied and no need to replace it, I plan to keep it for 3 years-ish.

In a van down by the river
Funny thing my 2011 iMac died one week before the announcement of the M1 Macs. I need a second computer as a backup for my 16" MBP. When the M1 Macs were introduced I decided not to jump the gun. Looking at the design and feature offerings of the current M1 lineup I knew that Apple put these out as a "test product" for the "I gotta have one" crowd and the YouTube reviewers and I absolutely knew Apple would be coming out with whole new designed products in 2021 so I'm glad I waited.
I doubt there will be a huge difference in CPU, between the M1 and those released in the coming months.

nah

my i5 2020 air paid for a good chunk of my M1 air, and it was the base model

I think it will be a worthy investment regardless

don't wanna spend much more than I did, either

if regular ports and real MagSafe returns, great. but I got dongles that have gotten me through the past half decade

if I skipped usb-c era Macs, I'd be elated... assuming its even true. we don't know what io they will offer

and if Touch Bar isn't on Pros, great but again don't wanna fork over an insane amount and already have a machine without touch bar (a selling point of the air)

Well Apple blew people away with the introduction of the M1 MacBook Air rivaling even the powerful 16" so they've got me convinced something amazing is on the way this year. I'm also moving from my Intel 16" Core i9 to whatever Apple offers in an Apple Silicon 16".

I was speaking of the base model comparisons, for those looking on.

In regards to the 16," I don't think you will be disappointed and will be glad to leave your Intel machine behind.

Without a doubt. I love this machine but I have to do voiceovers with my Blue Yetti Pro mic for my Final Cut Pro projects and the fan just won't quit driving me crazy. Not good for open mics, especially ones that power from the computer.

Nope, I did go from a 16" to the 13" M1 but that's because I had massive throttling/heat issues with the 16". I ended up preferring the smaller form factor as well since I usually use it hooked up to an external display. Most likely I'll keep the 13" M1 for at least 3-5 years.

I came very close to buying an Air for myself for use in the living room but my daughter wanted one so got her one so I got to play around with it for half an hour. If I had bought one and then heard about the 14/16, that would have been okay. I could use the Air in the living room and have the 14 or 16 for work-type stuff in my office.

I have a 2014 which I use in the living room. My biggest issues is battery life.

I have a 2015 in the basement and it's on a KVM. I plan to sell at least one when I upgrade to an M1 or M1X.

I love my M1 MB Air. So quiet and so fast. I sold my 2019 16" MBP Pro and 2020 13" 10th gen MBP and am very happy. I like having 2 system and may add a 14" MBP M1x/M2 when it is available. Until then I will continue to use the Air and Cloud services to do my Machine Learning development.

Not at all, I have the M1 Pro and Mini now...who knows what tomorrow will hold?

Waiting almost a year to enjoy these new machines is a time one will never get back.

No buyer's remorse yet.

I have an M1 MBA which I'm fairly happy with so far, and I think it might be a while before the Airs get updated. From past experience I know I don't need a Pro for my uses.

Also, I kind of want a new computer now (some stuff I see myself using it for a lot over the next few months). It's kind of like how I got an iPad Pro 11" last year in May and used it extensively for something fairly specific over the next few months, then the new iPad Airs came out. I could have waited for the iPad Air, but then I wouldn't have gotten to use the iPad Pro for those few months when I really needed it.

No regrets - I bought an M1 MBP (8 GB memory, 256 GB SSD) and I love it so far.

I am interested in seeing what the new wave of MacBook Pros look like:
  • If the specs and price look compelling, then I will definitely consider trading in on a new MBP.
  • If the specs and/or the price are not compelling, then my 13" M1 MBP will suit me just fine.
Another reason for me not to upgrade to another MBP in the near future is that at some point I want to replace my 2014 Intel Mac mini (4 GB memory, 512 GB SSD). It still works well, but there are times when I have to watch how many applications I have loaded.

I must admit, though, I like seeing how much use I can get out of my Macs:
  • My first Mac, a white iBook with a G3 (I think ti was a G3, makes sense), lasted me about 6-7 years until I replaced it with a 2008 MBP 15".
  • The 2005 PPC Mac mini I bought lasted me until 2016 (when I bought a 2014 Intel Mac mini).
  • The 2008 MBP 15" that I bought in 2008 until 2016 and was still decent (Core Duo, 4 GB memory, 240(?) GB HDD). I sometimes regret getting rid of it, but with an older processor I think its time had come.
  • My wife got a MacBook 13" in 2009 and she used it until 2016. I then "resurrected it in early 2020 until I bought a used 2010 MBP 17". Still works fine with 6 GB memory and a 512 GB SSD, but my other MacBooks are better so it is sitting unused for now.
  • I bought a used 2010 MBP 17" back in August of last year to tide me over until I could make a smart (for me) decision about buying an Apple Silicon MacBook. It did the job well, but I still want to see if I can get more use out of it. Maybe when I go back into the office I will use it if the version of Citrix Workspace supported by High Sierra will work acceptably. If not, it is, in my opinion, a damn fine looking computer and I can still use it from time to time around the house.

I think if the rumour about MagSafe had surfaced two months ago it might have made me think twice.

I won't lie, the rumours have me doing the calculations on a trade-in. :-D

Very happy with my Air so far though. It really does feel like living in the future sometimes, how amazing technology has become.

Enjoying the M1 alot. Will replace hardware when the right Macs come.

Its fantastic for light work.

Heavy multitasking can be painful at times but I think I might be having compaitbility issues or just low RAM. Who knows but I am excited and pleased.

Interesting comments about MagSafe - having a chance I would take standard USB-C / Thunderbolt any time. It is great when you can share peripherals, hardware, architecture, software...

Keep me my USB-C / Thunderbolt!

I bought a MBA M1 8/512 this past December. I am expecting at least a year before Apple refreshed the MBA so no remorse, but maybe I would have instead if I got a MBP knowing the 14" are coming soon without touchbar!
