Same with Outlook. You have to wonder how going from a mostly compatible Lion, to a buggy ML is progress? I mean what did they feel the need to monkey with to make so many apps unstable? I'll never understand why we have to get worse to get better.

Can anyone get ANY Appstore apps installed? Just about everything for me says it's already installed somehow, but it's not.

I have a similar issue. After deleting apps I can't get them back from the Appstore, it says they're already installed. Plus it gives me constant software updates for Thunderbolt firmware, even after I installed that update. I guess I'll stop deleting apps.

for god sake, of course it is buggy. It isn't a retail release! If you can't understand that then you are not the target audience and the release is irrelevant to you. If you need a certain program to run reliably then you should not have installed Mountain Lion.

I can't see how this is complicated.

I'm the developer of the freeware app Lion ftpd enable.

So far I've tested beta 1.21 and it does work but I'm having trouble getting gatekeeper to accept the way I sign it. If you're running ML and willing to help beta test, sign up using my support form.

I'm running Lion from an external USB HDD but it seems very slow. Perhaps I'll clone ML to an internal partition so I can see how it would run from there.

I just got a chance to try a few apps that were already installed on the spare HDD I used to test ML. Swackett worked. Sketchbook Express (Autodesk) crashed but let me save my work. LibreOffice worked after an automatic JVM download.

If you pick software update, it takes you to the app store and you see the same list you would see if you picked updates in the app store. One of the updates was the Lion Internet Recovery EFI thing so my machine is sitting over there booting a second time. ML boot times are about a minute on the external 5400 RPM drive.

Update: flip4mac (wmv player) works.

Sandboxing more stringent

many of these apps are failing because the new entitlements are MUCH stricter. As an example, if you run an AppleScript as a mail rule, it is no longer entitled to touch the file system, nor can it send messages to other applications (like Growl), nor can it launch an application.

I hope they figure this out in terms of using the entitlements of the *AppleScript* instead of sandboxing any spawned process.

The app store installation problems are related -- there is some entitlement required for installation that the app store installer is not able to obtain. You can see it in the console if you look carefully enough.
