Is it possible to have more than one workout going at the same time on WOD?

Use case: Going for a 10k run via "Running" on WOD, midway through, stopping at an outdoor park to do pullups/sit ups/etc. I would like to pause "Running" and start weight training, then end weight training and resume running again so it's not two separate runs.

Thank you
That sort of multi-activity workout is not possible at the moment. It's something that I expected to be a popular request (especially for triathlons) when I first released the app over 5 years ago, but it has been surprisingly rarely requested. However now that it is much better supported in watchOS 9 then I am expecting it to be a more popular request.

It would be a major change though and there are other major changes that are higher priority at the moment (AOD, turn by turn etc).

Thank you @cfc for the info. Appreciate the response and really love learning in this thread, your app is primed for lots of uptake as more Garmin users make the move to Apple Watch

Hello @cfc !!!
First of all thanks for the amazing app.
I wonder to know of you re-thought about adding "importing structured workouts from trainingpeaks" a reality?
Thanks in advance

That is on my list but below the Ultra action button, the Always on Display, and the navigation improvements. At the moment it is probably next in line after them, but that won't be for a while and priorities can change in that time.

Hi, is there a way to delete a workout from the iPhone app? WorkOutDoors just recorded a 39 minute run while I was sat on the sofa - I must’ve activated it by accident though not sure how. Anyway, I’ve deleted it from my watch but can’t figure out how to delete it from the iPhone app too? Thanks

Are u sure u weren’t doing a back and forth action with ur hand that might’ve activated the watch?

Hi all, I’m having issues auto-uploading to Strava. I can manually upload runs from within WOD to Strava without issues (I have authorised WOD within Strava and logged in properly.

When saving a workout from the watch, it saves fine in WOD then it says “Error: failed to create file “Wednesday morning run.fit”

I have resent all my WOD settings to the watch, re logged in and authorised WD in Strava and restarted phone/watch. Any other ideas? Thanks

Swipe left on the workout and tap the red delete button that appears. Sorry that it is not intuitive but it is the standard way to delete stuff in iOS.

That is strange. Please can you send the wkt file for the workout to info@workoutdoors.net and I will take a look.

Perfect thanks. I’d tried Haptic Touch to see if it popped up a delete menu, didn’t think to try swiping!

Thanks for the info re "screen saver". Looking forward to the update with SwiftUI. In the interim, is it possible to just turn off the screen to save battery and enable raise to wake, only when in a running workout in WOD?
You can do this by using Siri Shortcuts to make an automation when entering and exiting the Fitness Focus mode.

Crashing is extremely rare so if it happens twice then I recommend rebooting the watch. This is because if watchOS has gone rogue, or is using a lot of resources for something else, then it will kill off apps to make room. So restarting it is the best option.

However please send the wkt file for those workouts to info@workoutdoors.net and I will take a look in case I can see something looking strange. To do this tap the Export button 3 times quickly.

Also please could you send me any log files beginning with "WatchMap" or "Jetsam". To do this go to Apple's "Watch" app on the iPhone and tap General and then Diagnostic Logs. If they appear as “null” when you try to send them then please try again in an hour or so as they sometimes seem to take a while to be available. Thanks.
Might happen more often than you know.
Mine crashed too, 2 days ago. I was cycling, had it paused to answer an incoming iMessage and when I wanted to resume it was gone.
The exercise was later stored as "Recovered".

That sounds like the app was killed off by watchOS to make room for whatever you did whilst paused.

When an app is running a workout then it gets protection from this happening, but this protection seems to disappear when the workout is paused. So if watchOS needs memory or some other resources in order to do something else on the watch then it can sometimes kill off a paused workout app to get those resources.

It is still extremely rare, but it can happen and unfortunately there is nothing the app can do about it, except to ensure that it preserves the data so far, so that you don't lose anything if it is killed off by watchOS.

It is worth rebooting the watch in case you have a rogue process that is using a lot of memory (maybe iMessage in this case).

Then my question will be: are you working on the option to resume a stopped (killed) exercise?

When I’m going for a run, I never have my phone. When I end the run, I have the setting to auto upload to Strava enabled. As I do not have my phone, nor do have a cellular AW, WOD says offline and Strava cannot be uploaded - expected behaviour.

Is there a way to enable WOD to auto sync when re-connected to internet? Example: I am reconnected right now but no entry from this mornings run in Strava.

I just checked my workout list in WOD on the iPhone app and I do not see my morning run from today in the list (I can see everything else) is there a way to force sync? Perhaps I can add this force sync to my Shortcut automation I have setup already. Thanks

Opening WoD on the phone and watch will get the activities to sync I think. So you may want a shortcut to open the apps?

Yes, the app tries to upload to Strava from the watch at the end of the workout and if that doesn't work then it tries again from the phone app when you next use that.

The workout file is transferred from the watch app to the iPhone app by asking watchOS to transfer it. If for whatever reason that doesn't happen then reboot both the watch and the iPhone and then go to the Workout History on the watch app, select the workout, and tap Resend to iPhone.

I think that watchOS 9 and/or iOS 16 have changed something in the way they transfer files between the devices for apps. WOD just asks one of them to transfer a file to the other and they do the rest (sometimes in their own time if something else is transferring). In the past this was less reliable when sending from the iPhone to the watch, but recently I hear of more problems when sending files from the watch to the iPhone.

However this could be because they have improved the reliability from the iPhone to the watch and it just seems like I hear of more problems in the other direction because the app is being used more since the Ultra, so I just get more reports in general. So I suspect they have improved the reliability of transfers to the watch. It's impossible to know but the best solution in either case is to reboot both devices and resend.

Than you for the response.
Shame the only way to force the sync is a reboot of both devices. Will continue to do this as a workaround - sometimes the sync works and sometimes it doesn’t. Can’t really detect a pattern yet

The usual reason for data not being transferred is because another app is sending a large amount of data and got in first. So if resending does not work immediately after a reboot then it is worth waiting before trying again.

Another question - you mentioned earlier that it's not possible to start a workout like "running" and have it in progress then start another one like "weight training".

Is it possible to start a workout "running" via WOD, then start a separate workout with the Apple Workout app? Would this register properly on Apple Health as two separate workouts or would there be some type of confusion with saving the data etc.

I need to just pull the trigger and get this app. Is there a definitive list of workouts? I've read, went through the developers page, etc. Aside from a few posts, I know biking, walking, cycling are there. Where can I find other workouts?

Unfortunately watchOS doesn't allow two apps to be running a workout session at the same time. So starting a workout in the native app will end the workout in WOD.
