Just as an FYI, if it hasn't been mentioned before but you can setup the side action button on the Ultra to launch Workoutdoors via a shortcut.

On your iPhone, open Shortcuts and create a new shortcut. The only action needed is "Open App" and then select Workoutdoors. Once done, make sure you sync this new shortcut to the Ultra. Once that is done, just open settings on the Ultra, and then open Action Button. Select Shortcut, then select the shortcut you created. Once done, you can press the action button to launch Workoutdoors.

- A couple of small limitations. You can only use the action button/shortcut to launch the app...not a specific activity.
- When you press the action button, you will see for a second, a big shortcut screen for a second, then the app opens.

It's a decent workaround for now, till we get native support for the action button, in the app.
Thanks for that but I don't understand when I want to create a new shortcut in the iphone, the App Workoutdoors is not present ... Do you have an idea ?

Oupss I'm sorry I finally find WOD in the list... I'm new in this forum and I would like to thanks you for this APP.

Just one question. I have read many pages but I didn't find a subject about the ghost fonction. It's not possible to confront an old activity ?

Thanks

There is no "ghost" function at the moment where you can compare your stats against a previous workout, but that is in my plans.

In the meantime you can set a Target Pace in the settings and then if you use the Target profile in the Screen configuration then you will see metrics showing how far ahead or behind that pace you are in terms of time or distance. If there is a map then you will see a yellow dot representing the position of someone moving at the target speed.

There is similar functionality for a target pace range when using intervals, with red and green dots for the minimum and maximum values in the range.

Obviously a target pace is not as good as comparing against a "target workout", especially on hilly routes, so I plan to add a target workout / ghost feature in the future. Probably after I have improved the navigation to follow routes.

I am using the route and map functionality for trail running. I am wondering if there is a possibility to have a graph showing the elevation profile and my current position. This would allow me to understand the difficulty ahead of me.

That is in my plans. At the moment the app does not "follow" where you are on the route, so it cannot show an elevation graph or remaining time/distance/ascent metrics.

However improved navigation features (including this) are high on my to-do list.

Hi Ian,
maybe I missed something, but
why there are no lap tags on fit files in other applications
?
stryd, garmins, strava.
there is only one lap.
workouts programmed from the phone (intervals run)
what am I doing wrong?

Do you mean that you can see intervals but not splits? That is because the file only allows one type of split. If the workout has intervals then the app sends those by default, but if it does not have intervals then it sends laps.

Intervals take priority because systems should be able to calculate same size lap splits (e.g. 1 mile or 1 km) from the data anyway.

You can change this to always use laps even if the workout has intervals if you wish. To do this go to the Export Options in the Settings tab on the iPhone app and disable the "Export Intervals as FIT laps" option.

Just to confirm, you mean that not even the distance remaining will work?

I think the distant remaining works only when you settle the distance in setting before the workout, not about the GPX.
Yes, this is what that metric is for. If you set a fixed distance at the start of a workout, or if you use an interval schedule where the app can calculate an estimated total distance, then this metric will show the remaining distance.

In the future I will make this metric show the remaining distance for the currently selected route, but even then if the user has selected a fixed distance or an interval schedule then that will take priority.

Cool, would be coming a new version in a short time?
It depends how the testing goes. Also I am trying to find out how to control what happens when both the action button and the side button are pressed at the same time. Apple say that it should pause the workout but it just does the same as the action button operation for me.

Yep, same for me.
Pressing the action button and the side button at the same time while an activity simply does nothing.
Just a popup with „training“ and nothing happens

Thanks for that great app.
One question:
I have one active alert: 1 km notification.
During an interval schedule I don’t want to be dirsturbed by this alarm. What can I do?

iOS: Settings > Interval Schedules > Running Schedule (or whatever sport you’re using) > Regular Notifications (at the bottom): No.

Alternatively you can set it for each individual Interval workout step that you create (which is one of crazy detailed customizations of this app, but it’s great if you’d like to really nerd out on the details!).

Hi Ian, thanks for the beta I ve tested today during my long workout. All is fine for me. Action button works well and it is very useful. One thing, I prefer the elapsed time without the « … » which remplace seconds. For an half marathon for exemple, it is important to know near the arrival of you are at the beginning of the minute or a the end ! ( psychologicaly). Is there a way to create an option to chose ?
Thanks a lot again for your work 😉

So what does the Action button do in WOD now? Starting and pausing the workout?

(I have no Apple Watch Ultra yet)
