Why didn’t GPS not work? I put all settings to gps and test but no current pace. Why do I need such weird settings like Pedometer or Health.

My Garmin Fenix 3 has only gps and can display the current pace why can not Apple?
GPS should work as a source of current pace. The app allows you to choose which of Apple's systems provide the instantaneous speed: the Pedometer system, the GPS system or the Health system.

Interestingly the documentation for the current speed from the GPS system no longer says that it is unreliable, so it may be ok now. I haven't looked at it in years but it previously said that it was unreliable but now it doesn't. It also has a speed accuracy value, which is interesting. I will have to investigate that at some time.

So you are not seeing a value even when you have set the source of current pace to GPS? Are you sure that you have set the source of the current pace to GPS and not the source of the distance and average pace?

Yes I don‘t see the current pace and settings are gps.

Please check that you have given the app permission to use the pedometer on your new watch. To do this go to the Settings app on the iPhone and tap Privacy and then Motion & Fitness, then make sure Fitness Tracking is enabled and so is WorkOutDoors. Then go to the Watch app on the iPhone and select Privacy and ensure that Fitness Tracking is enabled there.

That should fix the missing pace for future workouts. I don't know if it also affects auto-pause but that is possible because Apple's algorithm probably uses the pedometer. See how it goes next time.

Ok, I deinstall WOD on the Watch, make an restart of Watch and iPhone and now I see an Entry in Motion & Fitness.

But one is courious. When I deinstall WOD on the watch the most settings on the iPhone are gone. I deinstall three times WOD on the Watch to check. Every time settings for autopause, pace, screens and more are gone and I must set it new. 😡

Why is that?

I can't go through all the settings before every workout.😳🙁🤔

Glad that reinstalling the watch app fixed it. That is good to know.

The iPhone settings will not be reset by reinstalling the watch app. However the watch app loses all its settings by being reinstalled, so if you then change settings on the watch then the empty watch settings will be copied back to the iPhone.

Instead you can send the settings to the watch by going to the File Management screen on the iPhone Settings tab and tapping "Send Yesterday's Watch Settings". It sends yesterday's settings in case you have done as you did and caused the iPhone settings to be cleared.

I will hope, that the reinstall fix the problem.

But why there are the settings on the iPhone changes without my doing?

Did you change any settings in the watch app after reinstalling? If so then the empty watch app settings will overwrite the iPhone app settings. To fix that tap Send Yesterday's Watch Settings.

Mauki would make a great beta tester, he manages to hit on all the problems no one else can. Hahaha.

It seems Apple needs to improve on the HealthKit permissions issues. This seems to be a source of a lot of confusion.

No I don‘t changes any settings on the Watch. I only change settings on the iPhone.

Hi Ian, Is there a way to see the value from the picture in km/h at the end of running wirkout

I want to do automation but I don't know how. I want, for example, when I start "running focus" from the phone, it changes the watch display settings to wake on wrist raise on and starts the workoutdoors program on the watch. After closing the workoutdoors app on the watch to turn off wake on wrist raise and stop running focus mode.
does anyone know how this can be done.

thus changing it to the current workout. hopefully it will automatically show it in km/h for the future.

Sorry, no. No-one has ever asked for km/h to be shown in the summary screen at the end of the running workout. Most runners are interested in pace. If the workout hasn't got some information (e.g. steps/cadence) then the app uses the extra room to show speed as well as pace, but not otherwise. The summary screen is one of the few areas of the app which is not configurable.

I can announce a small success.

Today at my bike ride I See the current speed. Makes me happy, hope at running it will work too.

But Autopause didn’t work because it was disabled 😞

One notification I was missing although it was activatey with 50 m. When does the notification come and how does it looks like?

Glad you could see the current speed for cycling.

Sorry, I don't understand what notification you are missing with regards to 50m. What is the notification called?

When I‘m off the Route, WOD should alert me. It is activated, but I get no notification.
No-one else has reported this. Have you selected a GPS route in the watch app settings? And is the route detailed? Very occasionally they only include points every few miles, which can make it difficult for the app to detect when you are on or off a twisty route.

Yes I load a route from Komoot and they Are active while biking. I leave the Route because of closed road.

And you left the route by more than 50m but didn't get an alert? Maybe change the value to 20m in the future.

Were you maybe using a track that was alongside the route but always within 50m? No-one else has reported issues with the off route alerts.

No the route I had loaded was exactly on the road I was driving on and the deviation was really big.

Did not get an alert.

The red route is the deviation, blue should be driven

Glad you could see the current speed for cycling.

Today I can announce a second Little success. 👍

At my 18 KM run, the current pace was showing.

But the value is absolutely not usable. The value jumps back and forth. Within 3-4 seconds I got several value from 5:20 min to 6:30 min.

Absolutely not to use this field.

Does it help to change from gps to health?

It looks like you went back on yourself and then even when you deviated you were probably within 50m of the route for a while, so it wouldn't have warned you for a few minutes after you turned back on yourself. In the future it may help to enable the voice option for the Off Route alerts in case you missed the haptic, which can happen.

Glad the current pace was visible. I am not surprised that the GPS option was bad because it has always been unreliable. I had hoped that the fact that Apple do not explicitly state that in their documentation would mean that it is better nowadays but I guess not. The Health option will use the new Running Pace metric in watchOS 9, so make sure that you have enabled that in the Health permissions (as well as every other permission that the app needs).

Any updates by Apple regarding the official documentation of integrating the action button?
They finally published it today! Thanks for asking because it prompted me to check and be pleasantly surprised.

Now to see if it helps fix the problem with the current beta where a reboot stops the action button working with the app.
