If I can find a system that offers offline routing for trails (not just roads) for a reasonable price then I might make it a paid extra in the future, but I am avoiding paid extras at the moment.

Komoot offers Routing for developers for free.
I don't think Komoot offer ability for apps to create routes on the device when offline. They offer the ability to create routes when online which can then be used when offline, but you can't create routes when offline.Komoot offers Routing for developers for free. Let‘s try it 😊
I know you are worried because, users have to register to Komoot but where is the problem?
Komoot is the most used navigation solution in German-speaking countries.
Maybe you get there with relatively little effort quickly some navigation functions and turn-by-turn

Not in the short term, sorry. Maybe one day.Any plans on storing personal records of specific distances or any user specified distances?

The app uses Apple's calibrated distance estimates, so you may need to calibrate the watch as described here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204516.How accurate is WOD/the Ultra on a treadmill or how accurate is the treadmill?
Today I run for the first time with the Ultra on a treadmill.
The treadmill say 1 KM, WOD say 1,12 KM.
What is right ;-)

I would say a treadmill.
I haven't heard of that but it may have been calibrating in some way during the first mile. Maybe looking at the accelerometer data to compare your running style indoors with outdoors, before adjusting its estimates accordingly.I ran on the treadmill last week and used the WOD indoor run workout with default settings and my distance was shorter than the treadmill. It seemed to show the first mile as .2 miles short but then it stayed there and I finished the run about .2 shorter than the treadmill showed. The pace was also off. Not too worried about it as I don't do treadmill runs often. It was just cold out and I was out of town and ill-equipped to run outside.
How can you look at the accelerometer data?I haven't heard of that but it may have been calibrating in some way during the first mile. Maybe looking at the accelerometer data to compare your running style indoors with outdoors, before adjusting its estimates accordingly.
However that is a complete guess because Apple understandably don't reveal that sort of detail, not least because their algorithm probably changes over time.
I don't know for sure that calibration only happens with Apple's Workout app, but they only mention their app on their website: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204516. It could be that any app that uses their workout system would work (including WOD) but it's hard for a user to be sure whether an app uses that or not, which may be why they only mention their app.Is there a way to run with both WOD and the default Apple workout running? What about with 2 watches? I didn't think you could have more than one active watch at a time so probably not.
I assume the only way to refine the calibration is to do a few runs with the apple workout running and then return to using WOD or alternate occasionally?
I meant that Apple's algorithm for distance estimates may be looking at the accelerometer data. Your running style on a treadmill is probably different from that when outdoors, so their algorithm may be trying to look for differences and then use them to calibrate the distance estimates. For example it may be possible to use the differences in the accelerometer data to determine if your stride length is different on a treadmill, and it then adjusts the distance estimates accordingly. How can you look at the accelerometer data?
I assume one configures this by going to Shortcuts in WOD's app and set "Both Side Buttons" to End workout. Correct?I knew there must be a way to do this since the WorkOutDoors app is one of the most configurable in the market. Thank you for your pointer.
I don't think it is available to 3rd party apps but I must admit that I haven't trawled through the APIs for 9.2 so it may be.Do you know if apple's APIs will allow you to easily tap into "Track Mode" when that is released in 9.2? Or has apple not allowed that as of yet?
That is correct. The ability to control what happens when both side buttons have been pressed has been in the app for years, but the introduction of the Ultra means I have had to rename it to be "Crown + Side Button" in the next version (which also has "Action Button" and "Action + Side Button").I assume one configures this by going to Shortcuts in WOD's app and set "Both Side Buttons" to End workout. Correct?
On an AW8, Both Side Buttons = crown and button on edge of lower right side?
Are you running both WOD and Stryd at the same time? That can cause strange problems because watchOS does not allow two apps to run a workout at the same time.I have the following issue: When running with the original Stryd app and WorkOutDoors and using the same calibration factor in both Apps I have a completely different result. I need in WorkOutDoors a different calibration factor. What I am doing wrong?
