Thanks so much for all your work on the app. I use it almost everyday for running. I also had a feature request. Is there any chance of having a gradient overlay on the map? I use the app for backcountry ski touring, and it would be great to be able to quickly check whether the route I'm taking takes me onto slopes that are a danger for avalanches. It's something that Strava now includes after they bought FatMap. Basically, colour coded that show the steepness of a slope. And would be even better if it showed an avalanche runout zone - but that isn't a must-have. Thanks again for all your work

That sort of feature sounds fun to implement but is rarely requested and would probably require me to pay for another map service, which isn't really economical with the app's current business model of a one-off payment.

One day I may investigate whether it is possible with the existing Thunderforest map data, which contains contours and hill shading, but other features are currently higher priority.

Sorry about that but glad you like the app!

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I completely understand - it is a pretty niche request. And I'd definitely prefer you to stick to your current business model (which is great now you also have the tip jar) than incorporate these things. Anyway, I should probably get better at reading the landscape with me own eyes when I'm out and about in the backcountry!

Thanks again for the fantastic app.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to do a workout check in while recording with WOD? I use this a lot with the native workout app.

Using WOD on a Ultra 2 - I love it:
1) display setting is to always on, but actually my WOD display swithes off. Is it due to the setting of the Ultra, that is not always on?
2) do I understand correctly? If WOD is not set to Action button, shortcut gestures "action+side button" will not work at all?
How do you stop an activity when reaching the finish line, where a precise end is crucial. Is there a workaround? How do you do it?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

I don'y really know much about the check-in feature, which probably means that it is not available to third party apps. However I don't know if that is definitely the case.

WOD can't over-ride the watchOS always on setting. So if that is disabled then WOD will never show the always on display even if it is enabled in the app.

I am reasonably sure that the action button needs to be set to WOD for the shortcut gestures to work during a workout. I am not 100% certain of this but I always recommend it when people say that the action button is not working during a workout.

For item 2, if you don't want to use the action button for WOD you can still use the crown+side button for pausing the watch - I have an Ultra 1 and I use this setting to precisely stop all my runs. It takes a little practice to hit them at the same time but it works well for me.

I do use the action button for WOD and set it up so that the action button opens WOD but in a workout I set it to lock the screen (for when it's raining to stop the rain inadvertently changing screen or ending the workout). I then set action+side to manually move to the next interval.

What I have however noticed is that there is an option called Quick Switch (which may only be in 11.3.1 as I haven't noticed it before) to allow you to hold down the action button and change the action that it triggers. I just tried it then and seems to work well - I had it set to WOD by default but if I hold it down it can switch to Flashlight or stopwatch (or whatever you want). I started a run in WOD, then held it down and switched to Flashlight, held it down again and switched back to WOD and all my action settings continued to work. That might be an option for you?

That's great to know. I hadn't heard of the new "Quick Switch" feature, but it looks very useful!

Bit confused reading the above few posts...my Action Button config is...

Action - Workout
App - Workout
First Press - Open Workout

In Workoutdoors under Start Options, I have Precision Start and Precision Start via Action Button enabled.

If I use the Native app (by pressing the Action Button), I select the Activity (Indoors/Outdoors/etc etc etc/Or a custom workout from intervals.icu), then Action button to GO...then Action Button would add a manual lap / skip a step. And Action+Side would Pause, ready to end.

If I use Workoutdoors (by press the app icon), and then select the activity type (I only have Running and Hiking enabled), it goes to the screen with the big Start button...if I then press Action Button, I "go". Pressing Action button again will introduce a manual lap (and assumedly skip a workout step if I built a structured workout), and pressing Action+Side gives me the pause I need at the end of a run ahead of pressing Finish.

I read that different to, "I am reasonably sure that the action button needs to be set to WOD for the shortcut gestures to work during a workout. I am not 100% certain of this but I always recommend it when people say that the action button is not working during a workout." - or is that for "some other" Action Button behaviour that people are trying to set up within Workoutdoors?

Some people say it works for them during a workout even when the action button is configured to something else. But it doesn't work for most people which is why I always recommend it.

Thinking about it now based on your example it may depend on the other settings. So for example it doesn't work for people who have the action button configured to use the flashlight but does for those with the Action set to Workout (even if it is a different workout app). I will investigate some day when I get time.

Just bought the software. I will be using it for paddling and have to mount the Watch on the boat so i dont have to stop paddling to look where i am in a workout. Always on display should come in handy.

Just wondering if there is a way to organize the interval schedules. My workout schedule is 16 weeks long with 4 workouts per week. I would like to create all the intervals and file them by week.

Unfortunately there are no organisation features for interval schedules. I plan to improve that in the future but other features are currently higher priority. Sorry about that.

Another vote for supporting the CORE temperature sensor! Allowing it to store its parameters in a FIT file for later analysis would be super helpful. Thanks!

Hi. Just checking in on timing for turn-by-turn. Sorry for the constant nag, it just would be a game-changer every time I explore a new area.

I am alpha testing at the moment. Sorry it's taking so long. Life has got in the way recently, plus these days I spend more time dealing with support questions than coding!

This might be a really niche request, but it would be very useful to be able to suppress the system clock. I know it is possible at least in some cases, as some Apple apps allow suppression of the system clock, such as Flashlight and Photos.

The rationale is that sometimes I’d like to be able to ignore the flow of time, such as during races or times when I just want to disconnect.

Any idea if this is possible in a third-party app like Workoutdoors?
